Update: The PlayStation Network Is Back Online After Going Down For Roughly 8 Hours

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/24/b0bf5a1a/PSN.jpg.webp) Update, 2:37 p.m. ET, 07/24/26 After being down for roughly eight hours, the majority of PlayStation Network services are back online(https://status.playstation.com/en-US/). The only PSN service still experiencing issues is the PlayStation Store, but account management, gaming and social, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Direct are back up and running. The original story continues below... Original story, 12:41 p.m. ET, 07/24/26 The PlayStation Network (PSN) is down. That means all of its online services, such as account management, the PlayStation Store, and gaming and social content, are unavailable to players, leaving only offline services in effect. PSN has been down for more than six hours, interrupting online gaming for many, including the highly anticipated open beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls(https://www.gameinformer.com/2026/07/16/the-open-beta-for-marvel-tokon-fighting-souls-starts-next-week), which was set to begin today. With PSN down, PlayStation players are unable to check out the PlayStation 5 console-exclusive title. "We're aware that some PlayStation players are experiencing login and network issues," the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls X account posted(https://x.com/MARVELTokon/status/2080634440670191989?s=20) this morning. "Our team is actively investigating the problem and working to identify the cause. We'll share updates as soon as we have information." Unfortunately for developer Arc System Works, which just revealed that Phoenix Cyclops will be the first DLC character to hit Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls(https://www.gameinformer.com/2026/07/24/phoenix-cyclops-revealed-as-first-dlc-character-in-marvel-tokon-fighting-souls-at-san), it sounds like it's out of its hands. The PSN service page(https://status.playstation.com/en-US/) shows all services as "experiencing issues." Those services are as follows: - Account management - Gaming and Social - PlayStation Video - PlayStation Store - PlayStation Direct While PSN being down is never great, the timing couldn't be worse – PlayStation just earlier this month announced that it is ceasing production of physical discs for new games in January 2028(https://www.gameinformer.com/2026/07/01/playstation-will-cease-production-of-physical-discs-for-new-games-in-january-2028). During PSN outages such as this, a physical disc often ensured players could at least access offline-playable content stored on the disc, while some digital games, even single-player ones, require an online check to play, leaving players unable to access those games when PSN is down. This move by PlayStation to end physical disc manufacturing is just another way the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S generation has been a race to the bottom(https://www.gameinformer.com/opinion/2026/07/03/the-ps5-and-xbox-series-x-generation-has-been-a-race-to-the-bottom). Game Informer will update this story when PSN comes back online.

Blizzard Employee Out Of A Job After Allegedly Helping Friends Cheat In WoW🎮 Multi-platform

Blizzard Employee Out Of A Job After Allegedly Helping Friends Cheat In WoW

A Blizzard employee who used developer tools to allegedly help a group of friends complete a challenging Mythic+ dungeon in World of Warcraft(https://www.gamespot.com/games/world-of-warcraft/) is no longer with the company, Blizzard has confirmed. Earlier this week, a thread on Reddit(https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/1v2xfpr/blizzardgmdeathtouchingmobsinm23fortheir/) called attention to a suspicious Mythic+ 23 dungeon run. A simple look at the key in question on Warcraftlogs(https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/JcfwTd4L19Agx3NX?fight=4&type=resources&hostility=1&source=100.4&eventstart=4705300), a site players use to track dungeon and raid performance, showed the dungeon shouldn't have been completed in time, as after the final boss the group still needed to kill more enemies from earlier in the dungeon. However, by some miracle, the key was cleared in its final moments with a spell titled "Area Death (TEST)" that instantly killed all the remaining enemies. https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/1v2xfpr/blizzardgmdeathtouchingmobsinm23fortheir/ As you can probably assume, that's not a spell players have access to. It immediately became clear that if the log was legitimate and not edited in any way, a Blizzard employee, possibly a gamemaster (or GM for short), helped this particular Mythic+ dungeon group. Since high-level Mythic+ is competitive, with special titles, rewards, and bragging rights reserved for the highest-rated players, a major cheating scandal like this was rightfully cause for concern among the WoW community. Word quickly spread about the incident, and it wasn't long before a streamer by the name Yumytv aired an interview(https://www.twitch.tv/yumytv/clip/LightRelievedOysterFloof-Nqr8oXHdnSbdwXv2) in which they reportedly talked to one member of the nefarious dungeon group in question. One of the group members claimed they called upon a GM friend who they were in voice chat with as an act of desperation upon realizing they weren't going to clear the key in time. "I go to my GM friend and say 'can you do me a solid bro, can you please just one shot?" he said. They continued by stating they "meant no harm" from it and if Blizzard wanted to revoke anything earned from the key, they were completely fine with it. "I didn't expect him to do it," he said of their Blizzard employee friend. "In hindsight, he shouldn't have done it. He was just doing me a solid." Blizzard, however, did find harm in it. After stating earlier in the week it was investigating the incident, it has now announced the Blizzard employee in question is no longer with the company and that it is taking action against the players involved as well. "It has always been the case that a small number of Blizzard employees can use developer tools and spells on live servers: This lets us test and make urgent fixes to the live game when they're needed," Blizzard stated in a forum post(https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/prohibited-gameplay-incident-and-response/2329585/1). "Every use of these internal spells and commands on live realms is logged and shared with our Platform Security team to help ensure that the occasional use of this access is warranted. The use of development tools for anything other than development work is against company policy. It's because of the process we have in place around use of these tools that we're confident this incident was isolated to one individual." Blizzard went on to thank the WoW community for their concern and response when it came to ensuring WoW's competitive integrity. "We're grateful for the way we work alongside you all to protect the game and each other," Blizzard said.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Secret Ending Seems To Tease A Halo 2 Remake🎮 Multi-platform

Halo: Campaign Evolved Secret Ending Seems To Tease A Halo 2 Remake

The original Halo might not be the only entry in the series to get a full redo, with the secret ending of Halo: Campaign Evolved giving a wink and a nod to fans by hinting at a Halo 2 remake. Spoilers for Halo: Campaign Evolved (and the 2001 original) follow. Completing the campaign on Legendary difficulty adds a light-hearted sequence featuring Sergeant Johnson, who is relaxing on a makeshift beach chair on the shore while somehow viewing the original Legendary joke ending(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm2a-xxpou0) from Halo: Combat Evolved. After realizing that the eponymous Halo is exploding (spoilers for the 2001 original, I guess), Johnson gets picked up by a Pelican, but not before turning to the camera, breaking the fourth wall, and declaring: "See you in the sequel." I don't know exactly why, but that final shot made it seem like "Don't You (Forget About Me)"(https://youtu.be/Sv1I4q6lOpo?si=9Aj4l18gpOWgPblt&t=20) was about to blare in the background to cap off the scene. https://youtu.be/vbka53lAZo?si=sDO0jjJZBHrvmw77&t=158 Leakers have previously claimed that remakes of Halo 2 and 3(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-2-and-3-are-also-getting-campaign-evolved-style-remakes-leaker-claims/1100-6535856/)--albeit, without multiplayer--are in active development. A report in May(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-2-and-halo-3-remakes-are-coming-report-says/1100-6539784/) from Rebs Gaming purported that the two remakes are moving forward "regardless of how well Campaign Evolved does." Halo 2 got a remaster in the form of Halo 2 Anniversary, which was part of 2014's Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Campaign Evolved is the first title from the rebranded Halo Studios. It's also believed by Rebs Gaming that the studio is building a Halo live-service game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-halo-game-may-be-like-fortnite-with-live-service-report/1100-6535547/). It's easy to imagine Halo Studios working on a model similar to Capcom and the Resident Evil series, alternating between remakes and new titles. Whether that's the case or not, Halo: Campaign Evolved at least serves as proof of concept on what the franchise could look like going forward. GameSpot's Halo: Campaign Evolved review(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/it-feels-wrong-for-halo-to-feel-better-than-ever-on-ps5/) said that it "feels like the new gold standard for playing through the first Halo." The game releases on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on July 28, but those who bought the premium edition were granted access starting yesterday (though Xbox and PC players ran into some snags(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-players-on-xbox-who-paid-more-to-play-early-cant/)). GTA 6 Is The First Game I’ve Seen With A Best-Before Date🎮 Multi-platform

GTA 6 Is The First Game I’ve Seen With A Best-Before Date

We're about four months from the launch of the biggest game of the year: Grand Theft Auto 6(https://www.gamespot.com/games/grand-theft-auto-vi/). The hype is no doubt through the roof, but if you're in Japan, you'll need to turn that excitement into immediate action because you'll have a limited amount of time to redeem the code that comes in the game box. As outlined in a June 24 FAQ on Rockstar Games' support page(https://support.rockstargames.com/articles/4QfG4FmZCf5W1gS8jy4UVT/grand-theft-auto-vi-platform-editions-and-versions), Japanese gamers will have 170 days to use the code, or it'll expire. The official wording is as follows: Product codes in Japan will expire 170 days after the issuance date, which is the launch date (November 19, 2026), due to regional regulations. This means that, from the time you buy the game, you'll have just shy of six months to redeem the code if you live in Japan. Otherwise, like opened condiments and pantry-stored brown rice, your code will go bad and straight-up expire. It's not necessarily shocking, since most digital codes don't tend to be redeemable forever, but it is odd that Japan is the only region with this sort of stipulation thus far. 170 days isn't even that long, either! Here are some other things that are about as long as or last longer than six months: - This Redditor's sobriety(https://www.reddit.com/r/stopdrinking/comments/186eyio/170dayssoberifeellikeiwokeupinthe/) from three years ago. (Congratulations, BTW.) - The tourist season, as seasonal resort locations tend to open their doors for about five or six months. - Academic school years in certain parts of the United States. - This random TikTok(https://www.youtube.com/shorts/QPlsEffuiFk), which is apparently 170 days of Thanksgiving. - Honey (because it outlasts everything). - Cockroaches (because they can outlast just about everything). - Welsh actor Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins' sanity after 170 days in quarantine(https://www.facebook.com/AnthonyHopkins/posts/170-days-in-quarantine-and-i-think-im-still-sane-/2724234641179546/). - Renowned environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk stayed in Ladakh jail for only 170 days(https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2026/jul/17/indian-protester-hunger-strike-modi-government-sonam-wangchuk) in 2025. - If your passport has less than six months of validity, some foreign nations may deny your entry. - Butter, which can last up to six months in the freezer. - Bleach essentially becomes water if it sits in your home for six months. (Please don't drink it, I beg of you.) I could go on. Again, this only applies to Japan (for now), but it's funny to think of GTA 6 as having a best-before date. We've reached out to Rockstar for clarification and will update this post if and when we get a response. Anyway, Grand Theft Auto 6 may be just a code in a box, but you may have noticed that it isn't launching on PC. This is customary for Rockstar Games, and one former employee explained(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/former-rockstar-dev-explains-gta-6-console-first-approach/) that the console-first approach allowed the team to produce a far better PC port. The lack of a PC release probably won't impact the sales of the game, as predictors suggest(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-just-got-a-jaw-dropping-sales-prediction/) that the highly anticipated crime could generate between $3.3 billion and $5.2 billion in global sales after its first week.

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Isn’t Connected To Previous Games, But There Are Homages🎮 Multi-platform

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Isn’t Connected To Previous Games, But There Are Homages

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/25/918a3338/onimushawotsssdohatsu.jpg.webp) Onimusha is finally back after a 20-year hiatus with Way of the Sword(https://gameinformer.com/Onimusha), which launches this September. In anticipation of its release, and for Game Informer’s latest cover story(https://gameinformer.com/cover-reveal/2026/07/16/cover-reveal-onimusha-way-of-the-sword), I traveled to Capcom’s Osaka, Japan, HQ to play the game for a few hours and interview the development leads working on it. As an avid fan of the series, I was keen to learn if Onimusha: Way of the Sword is connected to previous Onimusha games in any way, so I asked the team. The tl;dr answer is no; there are no connections between Way of the Sword and other games in Capcom’s samurai action series. However, as was abundantly clear while playing the game, there are homages everywhere with (demon) eyes to see. !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/15/b7c4ac81/380onimusha15.jpg.webp) “So there’s no direct kind of connection to the old games in the game world of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, but we have tried to pay homage to some of the elements from those older games,” director Satoru Nihei tells me. “So some of the enemies you’ll see, for instance, are based on some older enemies; that’s so fans of the series have something they can touch base with.” Below, you can see the Reynaldo Genma from Onimusha: Warlords side-by-side with the Chijiko enemy from Way of the Sword. In the former, this tentacled demon can send its tentacles underground to attack from below, and they also split and mutate into multiple enemies when you “kill” one; the latter can do the same, using tentacles (and more) to attack you and splitting into two, unless you defeat them with a special move that prevents the split mutation from happening. !Reynaldo (left), Chijiko (right)(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/22/a8de4232/Tentacle%20Enemy.jpg.webp "Reynaldo (left), Chijiko (right)") Reynaldo (left), Chijiko (right) The Raynaldo/Chijiko is just one of the homages I spotted during my time playing Way of the Sword at Capcom. Another is the Bazuu, an enemy in various Onimusha games. In Onimusha: Warlords, for example, one of its primary attacks is a spinning roll towards you that hits over and over. Though I don’t have the name, there’s a similarly designed enemy in Way of the Sword who also attacks by rolling into you, and it features the same armadillo-esque look, too. There’s also the soul-sucking Gyaran from Onimusha: Warlords; though its Way of the Sword counterpart doesn’t seem to suck Musashi’s souls, instead firing projectiles your way, it’s hard to deny a visual similarity between the two. “All of the enemies in this game are brand new, so while we do pay homage to some of the older games, we’ve kind of taken elements from them and remixed them for the new Genma in this title,” Nihei says. I look forward to discovering more of these homages in the final game when Onimusha: Way of the Sword hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on September 4. I’ll be diving deeper into Capcom’s return to Onimusha as part of Game Informer’s month of Way of the Sword coverage. We’ll be publishing exclusive gameplay and behind-the-scenes videos (including a Rapid-Fire Interview) on the Game Informer YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/@gameinformer) as well. Keep an eye on the Onimusha: Way of the Sword coverage hub(https://gameinformer.com/Onimusha) so you don’t miss any of it. In the meantime, here’s some additional Onimusha: Way of the Sword reading for you: - How Capcom Decided On Miyamoto Musashi For Its Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Protagonist(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/07/22/how-capcom-decided-on-miyamoto-musashi-for-its-onimusha-way-of-the) - Why 2026 Was The Year To Bring Onimusha Back After A 20-Year Gap(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/07/20/why-2026-was-the-year-to-bring-onimusha-back-after-a-20-year-gap) - Why Kyoto Was The Perfect Setting For Onimusha: Way Of The Sword(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/07/20/why-kyoto-was-the-perfect-setting-for-onimusha-way-of-the-sword) - Onimusha: Way of the Sword Cover Reveal(https://gameinformer.com/cover-reveal/2026/07/16/cover-reveal-onimusha-way-of-the-sword) - Onimusha: Way of the Sword Digital Issue(https://gameinformer.com/Onimusha) - Onimusha: Way of the Sword Summer Game Fest Hands-On Preview(https://gameinformer.com/preview/2026/06/12/a-thrilling-boss-battle-makes-for-another-strong-showing) - Onimusha: Way of the Sword Hub(https://gameinformer.com/product/onimusha-way-of-the-sword) Anything else you want to know about enemies in Onimusha: Way of the Sword?
