Xbox Version Of PlayStation Platinum Trophy Teased For Later This Year

Xbox Version Of PlayStation Platinum Trophy Teased For Later This Year

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has teased that an Xbox version of PlayStation's Platinum(https://playstation.fandom.com/wiki/Trophies) trophy system could be coming to Xbox, and potentially soon. Replying to a social media user who asked when Xbox might get an "equivalent" to Platinum for Xbox achievements, Sharma said, "Team is working on something for later this year!" https://twitter.com/ashashar/status/2085043552837636502 Platinum trophies are awarded when players unlock all the other trophies. It's a badge of honor, of sorts, for some people. There is no equivalent on Xbox currently for when people unlock all achievements. While Xbox fans wait, the newest Xbox update is rolling out now(https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/08/05/xbox-insiders-october-2026-console-features/) with new improvements and features for the achievement system. Users can now sort games by name, completion percentage, Gamerscore earned, and number of achievements unlocked. The update is out now for Xbox Insiders and will be available to everyone else later. Sharma took over as Xbox CEO earlier this year and one of her first big moves was to "reset" the Xbox business to help it return to profitability and growth. This has involved mass layoffs, game cancellations, and studio divestitures(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-after-the-layoffs-studios-left-and-what-theyre-making/).

Black Ops 1 And 2 Ports Sold 11 Million Copies Combined On PlayStation, Benefitting Both Xbox And Sony

Black Ops 1 And 2 Ports Sold 11 Million Copies Combined On PlayStation, Benefitting Both Xbox And Sony

The recently released ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 for PlayStation sold more than 11 million combined copies, generating nearly half a billion dollars, according to industry analyst Rhys Elliott(https://x.com/superhys/status/2084775534874231037?s=46). The games, which were developed by Iron Galaxy, were shadow-dropped on PS4 and PS5 on July 9, featuring campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies. The games were not remakes with improved graphics or new features, but instead "straight 1080p ports," as Elliott put it. Technical experts found that the ports feature barely any noticeable improvements at all(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-new-playstation-black-ops-ports-feel-like-the-bare-minimum/), and that was the whole point for many. Fans wanted the OG experience, made available on modern systems. According to Elliott, the $40 games sold so exceptionally well due to massive pent-up demand (the games are available to PS Plus subscribers for $20 until August 6). Previously, the only way to play the games on PlayStation was to find an old PS3 and go from there since they were never made available via backwards compatibility on PS4 or PS5. "As per our estimates, Black Ops 2 sold 8.2M copies on PlayStation (93% on PS5, 7% on PS4) for about $325M, while Black Ops 1 sold 3.0M (94% via PS5) for $110M. Combined, that’s $435M on PlayStation in under a month," Elliott said. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/blackops-1.webp) The Black Ops ports were hugely popular. Microsoft and Activision are the big winners here, and so is Sony--its 30% cut works out to about $130 million "for doing basically nothing" but hosting them, Elliott said. "Basically zero marketing or ongoing development costs are eating into that check. That single month of cataloge CoD sales on a rival platform effectively funds a massive slice of Xbox’s quarterly first-party operational overhead," Elliott explained. "And the combined $435M is already nearly as much as Forza Horizon 6 has made via base game sales all year." Elliott described the move to release the Black Ops ports as a "low effort, low risk, high reward catalogue mining." Activision also released $30 DLC bundles for both games, featuring many multiplayer maps. He added that the success of the Black Ops ports further demonstrates that Microsoft is not going to make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox--there is simply too much money to be made by having Call of Duty on PlayStation. Elliott went on to say that the success of the ports also demonstrates that a "proper" reboot of Black Ops "would do absolute gangbusters." The next new Call of Duty game is this October's Modern Warfare 4. A multiplayer beta for the game goes live later this month(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-beta-dates-revealed-heres-how-to-get-in/).

Big Walk Just Hit A Major Milestone On PS Plus

Big Walk Just Hit A Major Milestone On PS Plus

It's been nearly seven years since developer House House released its breakthrough title, Untitled Goose Game(https://www.gamespot.com/games/untitled-goose-game/). The company's follow-up, a co-op puzzle-solving game called Big Walk(https://www.gamespot.com/games/big-walk/), is out now, and it's already achieved an unexpected critical milestone on PlayStation Plus Essential. As reported by GameSpot's sister site Metacritic, Big Walk has landed with a 94(https://www.metacritic.com/game/big-walk/) score among reviewers. That makes it the most critically acclaimed game to ever be released on PS Plus Essential on day one. Last year's indie adventure-puzzle hit Blue Prince(https://www.gamespot.com/games/blue-prince/) achieved nearly the same score, with a 92 on Metacritc, but it was released on PS Extra, not Essential.. GameSpot's Big Walk review(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/big-walk-is-one-of-the-best-co-op-games-ever/) calls it a game of the year contender and hails it as one of the best co-op games ever created. "Big Walk takes fundamental and timeless video game concepts–obstacles and incentives for clearing them–and, through an intensely focused co-op experience, shapes them into something singularly rewarding, supremely mysterious, and totally unforgettable," notes the review. For anyone who is just getting started with the game, GameSpot has put together eight tips you need to know ahead of playing Big Walk(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/8-big-walk-tips-you-should-know-before-you-play/). Players who have already dived into Big Walk should check out our guides on how to get shiny(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-get-shiny-in-big-walk-for-big-makeover-achievement-trophy/) and how how to solve the 4166, 1899 puzzle(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/auto-draft/). Big Walk is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Mac.

How To Cancel PlayStation Plus

How To Cancel PlayStation Plus

Life is expensive(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/game-consoles-are-pricing-themselves-out-of-relevance/1100-6539969/) these days. If you're looking to cut back on spending and want to do away with your PlayStation Plus membership, it's very easy to do so. There are plenty of reasons why you might want to cancel PlayStation Plus, just like there are numerous reasons for cancelling Xbox Game Pass(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-cancel-xbox-game-pass/1100-6496456/). Below you can find instructions on how to cancel PlayStation Plus, as shared by PlayStation(https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/subscriptions/cancel-playstation-plus/). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiwBu7M023s How to cancel PlayStation Plus from the internet - Sign in to Account Management(https://www.playstation.com/acct/management). - Select Subscription from the menu on the left of the screen. - Select Cancel Subscription next to PlayStation Plus. How to cancel PlayStation Plus from your PS5 - Go to Settings> Users and Accounts. - Select Account> Payment and Subscriptions> Subscriptions> PlayStation Plus. - Select Cancel Subscription. How to cancel PlayStation Plus from your PS4 - Go to PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription. - Select Cancel Subscription. When you cancel PlayStation Plus, you'll retain member benefits until the end of the current billing cycle. However, after that, you'll lose access to the service's numerous perks(https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/subscriptions/playstation-plus-support/) including monthly games(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-plus-essential-free-games-for-august-2026/), online multiplayer, and online storage support, among other things. August brings with it some pretty great additions to PlayStation Plus(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-plus-essential-free-games-for-august-2026/), including the critical darling Big Walk--which we called one of the best co-op games of all time(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/big-walk-is-one-of-the-best-co-op-games-ever/)--along with Dying Light 2 and Signalis. Sony recently upset gamers by announcing that it will stop supporting physical game discs starting in January 2028. The data clearly shows that digital adoption is rising(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/), but plenty of people still love physical discs. Sony continues to sell many millions of physical game discs annually(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/), but experts believe Sony wants to exert more power and control over users(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-is-sony-killing-discs-its-all-about-profitability-and-control-expert-says/) and is ushering in an all-digital future on PlayStation leading into the PS6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-6-everything-we-know-about-sonys-next-generation-console/1100-6533561/) era.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Director Motohide Eshiro On Onimusha: Way Of The Sword’s Resurrection Of The Series

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Director Motohide Eshiro On Onimusha: Way Of The Sword’s Resurrection Of The Series

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/15/28d3ca2e/380onimusha10.jpg.webp) Onimusha: Way of the Sword(https://gameinformer.com/Onimusha) is the latest game to grace the cover of Game Informer(https://gameinformer.com/cover-reveal/2026/07/16/cover-reveal-onimusha-way-of-the-sword). As part of my cover story trip to Capcom’s Osaka HQ, where I played the game and interviewed the team making it, I also got to speak to Motohide Eshiro, the planner of Onimusha: Warlords and director of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny(https://gameinformer.com/product/onimusha-2-samurais-destiny) (and its recent remaster(https://gameinformer.com/interview/2025/04/22/onimusha-2s-director-on-remastering-the-playstation-2-game-and-the-state-of)). I published an in-depth retrospective about Onimusha’s success, its “Sengoku Biohazard” origins, and more based on my interview with Eshiro, and you can read that right here(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/07/23/a-look-back-on-the-first-two-onimusha-games-with-planner-and), but I also spoke to him about watching this series return after a 20-year hiatus(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/07/20/why-2026-was-the-year-to-bring-onimusha-back-after-a-20-year-gap). Though he’s not officially working on Way of the Sword, he works at Capcom in a producer role, supporting up-and-coming producers working on various projects at the publisher-developer. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/23/db966a7e/Eshiro%20Header.jpg.webp) Game Informer Motohide Eshiro Sitting beside Way of the Sword director Satoru Nihei, Eshiro tells me he’s been “very surprised and impressed” with the way video game graphics, particularly across the Onimusha series, have evolved alongside the action genre over the past two decades since Onimusha’s start. He also believes Nihei and the rest of the Way of the Sword team have nailed the swordplay action. “I feel that one of the strengths of it is the swordplay,” Eshiro says. “In particular, I found it was quite an interesting evolution from the base game, but also, maintaining elements like the Issen, that satisfying feel of pulling it off, and the back and forth of Japanese swordplay – I feel they’ve done a really good job of capturing that feeling and creating a bit more of a realistic start of the swordplay action.” There is a clear but polite embarrassment in the room from Nihei, as he listens to Eshiro discuss Way of the Sword’s strengths, and it’s endearing to see. Nihei refers to Eshiro as a legend and is happy to hear he thinks Way of the Sword is satisfying in its action. “When we have legends like Eshiro check out the game, I definitely feel nervous,” he says. “Are they going to be like, ‘What are you doing here?’ There’s definitely a bit of pressure, but obviously I look forward to hearing what they have to say about the game.” !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/15/8a80e229/380onimusha20.jpg.webp) Delving further into his impressions, Eshiro says he is very impressed by what the Way of the Sword team has accomplished with today's technology. “Coming from someone involved with the past titles, I am very impressed with that and am really happy to see the project in good hands,” he adds. “I’m very excited for people to get their hands on the game.” Ever the studio man, Eshiro closes out his thoughts by saying if someone is excited about Way of the Sword and wants to learn more about the series, “I would love for people to check out the Onimusha 1 and 2 remasters to see how the series has changed over these 20 years.” I actually played through both remasters in the lead-up to this cover story trip for Way of the Sword, and though I loved the games as a child, I was surprised to see how well they hold up. Onimusha: Warlords, in particular, remains a fascinating game; it really is “Sengoku Biohazard,” the first game’s codename, à la a Resident Evil game (even set in a singular location like Spencer Mansion) but with samurai instead of agents and swords instead of guns. Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny ups the ante, expanding the game’s scale, complete with a wide-spanning friendship system and multiple branching paths that are still intriguing pieces of game design history today. All of this is to say, I echo Eshiro’s thoughts: Give Onimusha: Warlords and Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny a go if you’re waiting for Way of the Sword and in need of more swordplay action. I’ll be diving deeper into Capcom’s return to Onimusha as part of Game Informer’s month of Way of the Sword coverage. We’ll be publishing exclusive gameplay and behind-the-scenes videos (including a Rapid-Fire Interview) on the Game Informer YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/@gameinformer) as well. Keep an eye on the Onimusha: Way of the Sword coverage hub(https://gameinformer.com/Onimusha) so you don’t miss any of it.
