Crimson Moon gets September release date

Overview & Key Takeaways

Crimson Moon brings gothic action RPG combat this September with co-op gameplay, replayable missions, and an original metal soundtrack.

Gothic action RPG Crimson Moon will launch this September on consoles and PC, developer ProbablyMonsters announced Tuesday.

First revealed during February's State of Play, Crimson Moon is a dark fantasy adventure inspired by gothic horror and classic heavy metal aesthetics. Players take on the role of a Nephilim โ€” a half-angel and half-human โ€” battling through the fallen city of Gildenarch against hordes of demons, undead, vampires, and other hellish creatures using brutal melee combat and supernatural abilities.

A gameplay trailer released during Summer Game Fest offered a closer look at the game's blend of solo and cooperative play, with players carving through skeletons, imps, and hulking bosses in an atmospheric world that evokes FromSoftware's Dark Souls series and Elden Ring.

Unlike those sprawling RPGs, though, Crimson Moon is designed as a more focused action adventure, with the studio previously telling Polygon it wanted to create a polished experience that players could finish over a handful of sessions rather than dozens of hours.

Instead of an open world, Crimson Moon is structured around replayable missions through Gildenarch's districts, where players will track down bounties and treasure, discover hidden secrets and slay slews of undead grunts on the way to powerful bosses. Between expeditions, players return to the halls of Sanctus Clypeus โ€” the base of operations for the knights of the Crimson Moon โ€” to buy new weapons, upgrade equipment, stock up on consumables, and interact with a cast of characters, including a veteran Nephilim mentor, a resident historian, a treasure hunter, and a legendary vampire blacksmith before heading back to the city to hunt more monsters.

ProbablyMonsters also revealed the musicians behind Crimson Moon's heavy metal soundtrack. Led by composer Chris Wilson and music manager Steve Pardo, the game's score features original music created in collaboration with the metal band Health, guitarist and YouTube creator Jared Dines, Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor, and Ice Nine Kills guitarist and producer Ricky Armellino.

Health has previously contributed music to Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto Online, and Max Payne 3, while Armellino recently worked on the beat-'em-up and a rhythm game Dead as Disco.

Crimson Moon launches Sept. 1 exclusively for PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. The game will launch at $19.99, alongside a $29.99 Deluxe Edition that adds the Ceremonial Armor Set and Axe of the Gods cosmetic.

Watch God Of War Laufey Star Smash The Last Of Us Golf Club Prop On Her First Day

Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye in the upcoming PS5 game God of War Laufey(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufey-gameplay-release-date-and-everything-we-know-so-far/), and she had quite a memorable first day on set. At San Diego Comic-Con recently, she shared a story about how, on her very first day, she broke a famous prop from The Last of Us due to her strength and tenacity--only she didn't know the significance at the time. And now, footage of the event has arrived. "Unbeknownst to me, this was a very famous prop that they had used on The Last of Us," she said, going on to joke that it was "some sort of sporting equipment." It was actually a golf club prop, and you probably know what that means... "They gave it to me and I was supposed to use it like an axe. And I broke it," Woll said. Game director Ariel Lawrence added, "She swung it so hard, it cracked. And it echoed throughout the volume. And we were like, 'Hot damn, let's go.'" https://twitter.com/SonySantaMonica/status/2088280064974635337 God of War: Laufey is in the works now for PS5, and it's arriving in February 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/). Starring alongside Woll is The Boys actor Jack Quaid, who plays a gelatinous cube named Phranque(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufeys-phranque-is-far-from-just-a-cube/). A new Kratos-led game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/) is coming after that, and it will pick up where Laufey left off(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/kratos-next-god-of-war-game-will-pick-up-where-laufey-leaves-off/).

Wolverine on the PS5 made me care about Marvelโ€™s mutant for the first time

Going into my demo of Marvel's Wolverine, I mainly wanted to try out the game's very bloody combat. And it is delightfully bloody. But after two-ish hours of slashing and stabbing (and parrying!) enemies with Wolverine's claws, I left surprised - despite no previous attachment to the character, I was deeply endeared to Logan himself. &8230;
