Summary

After tackling the trials of the Ogouchi Buffer Zone in Chapter One of Beast of Reincarnation, Emma and Koo can't afford to rest in their Cleanse Walker. A bevy of new opponents in another ruined sector of the post-apocalyptic Kanto Region awaits them.

This time, they'll need to find some generators to power a gate while chasing after yet another out-of-control Nushi. There's also much more verticality at play in Chapter Two's map, meaning that you'll need to master the unique traversal skills that Emma possesses thanks to her Blight-infused hair.

Chapter Two

Chapter Two of Beast of Reincarnation takes place within the Ancient Civilization Zone map and encompasses the following objectives.

  1. Early Explorations
  2. Toward the Reservoir (Part 1)
  3. Defeat Every Enemy
  4. Toward the Reservoir (Part 2)
  5. Clues About the Nushi
  6. Gate Controls
  7. Power the Gate
  8. Defeat the Nushi

Before we begin... An extra tip from Jeremy

Unlike Chapter One, this Chapter is more free-form, at least in the beginning, with no major goals kicking in until you've learned about the reservoir. So be sure to bookmark our guides for finding all Elite Enemies, all Keeper Golems and the Dragon Vein Shrines. (The shrines are new collectibles that will start appearing from this zone onwards.) We'll briefly indicate in the steps below when these pop up, but this walkthrough is focused on the main story.

1. Early Explorations

Begin your trip through the Ancient Civilization Zone by moving forwards through the ruins. Flying enemies - formally known as Corvid Malefacts - will be in the sky, and you should take them out with your bow or crossbow. On the left side of the path here is a metal tower with a Homing Shot Spirit Stone available for the taking, and this is a great piece of gear to equip if you rely heavily on ranged weaponry.

There are many flying Malefacts in this area to torment you, but thankfully Emma's crossbow is pretty powerful, especially if you've been upgrading it via the skill tree. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Game Freak

Further on are more Corvid Malefacts and Golems, and both groups will fight each other if you stand back and watch. Defeat them all, loot the corpses, and keep going by climbing up the right side of the big gate in front of you.

The first Dragon Vein Shrine lies here, and if you pray at this shrine, you'll get a Dragon's Favor which boosts your Stimpack amount by one. Keep finding more Shrines if you want to gradually accumulate additional Stimpacks - once again, our guide on all Dragon Vein Shrines has the full details on this process, and is definitely worth a look!

From here, you can spot a Keeper Golem across the ravine in front of you; form a bridge with Emma's hair to get to it. As identified in our Keeper Golem guide, this one can alert you to the location of some Potato Seedlings or to an elite wolf Malefact, depending on which question you ask it.

After interacting with the Keeper Golem, make a hair bridge to the right of it to find the Ruins Path Camp. There's a Strongbox above the camp containing decent loot, including 842 Amber, and Koo will highlight a control console near the Strongbox. Activate the controls to open the gate near the Dragon Vein Shrine. There's no need to backtrack - you can use the nearby lift to descend down to the gate opening.

A Lupine Malefact Elite Enemy An extra tip from Jeremy

If you previously asked the Keeper Golem about dangerous enemies in the area, it would've pointed out the location of a Lupine Malefact Elite Enemy. Either way, this foe is above the Ruins Path Camp, and the easiest way to reach it is to go to the camp, and then look eastwards to find a grapple spot.

The Lupine Malefact is more of an uncommon enemy type at this point, but you'll start to see these wolves with greater frequency from here on out. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Game Freak

Use Flame Arrows to inflict burn on the Lupine Malefact and be wary of its unblockable pouncing leap. Other than that, defeating this wolf shouldn't be too tricky, and as a reward you'll get the Skill Amber: Blinding Fang, a useful ability for Koo.

Enter through the gate to come up against a host of Golems guarding the interior, including one Elite Enemy. These buckets of bolts can be tough to handle all at once, so use Emma's hair bridge (or crouch in the nearby flowers) to insta-kill at least one of them from above before they can all gang up on you.

When the Golem onslaught is gone, loot all of them, and be sure to pick up the Facility Module on a destroyed Cleanse Walker in the arena, as this can come in handy for upgrading Bauera later. Climb and jump upwards, and eventually you'll find a lift that you can take down into what looks like the ruins of an old Tokyo metro station.

Grab the two Electronic Brains from the rusted Golem near the entry turnstiles and keep moving until you enter a larger room with an Ancient Golem, who will inform you that in order to proceed, you need to activate two generators.

The Ancient Golem also sells some goods that are worth perusing if you have enough Amber. The sword Purity (costing 4,390 Amber) is a particularly solid choice, as it lets Emma recover her HP for about five seconds as long as she makes subsequent attacks after a successful parry. (Purity made our list of the best weapons in Beast of Reincarnation, if you're wondering.)

2. Toward the Reservoir

You now have two markers showing you the location of the generators. One of them leads back outside and to the north, while the other winds to the west, deeper into the ruined metro station. I personally took the western route first, but you can do them in either order - and you may want to stop north in any case, just to activate the Raging River Camp.

To reach the western generator, go west of the Ancient Golem, up the stairs, and into the lift. There are some rat Malefacts along the way; killing them gets you the Golem Censer, an item for Koo which grants a temporary defence boost.

Take the lift down and you'll be in a long room that's experienced a flood, with partially submerged metro cars. Globe Golems - which appear as orbs floating in the air - will plague you with laser fire as you traverse this room, but they'll go down easily to ranged attacks.

Once the Globe Golems are defeated, you'll need to tango with a few Golems on the ground. Once the smoke clears, search the back of the room to find a Strongbox and the western generator.

To activate the northern generator, head to the Raging River Camp. Below you is a salamander Malefact, a relatively new type of foe that last appeared during the Prologue (and a hint of what this zone's boss is going to look like). Kill it from above and then deal with the Golems on the other side of the river. When they're dead, grab the 2 Momentum Spirit Stone for a nice 6% boost to both Emma and Koo's attack, then enter the door.

Up the stairs, you'll find the Tunnel Ruins: Interior Camp. Level up if need be, and then jump down to fight the Giant Golem. This hulking Elite Enemy hits very hard with arms that stretch and deal unblockable strikes, as well as repeated laser fire from its eye.

If you have any attacks or skills that inflict lightning damage, now's the time to use them, as this is the Giant Golem's weakness. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Game Freak

Following the fight, a new character named Kunai will appear and give Emma her signal code. Guess we're exchanging phone numbers now with anyone we come across, eh? She'll give you the Nushi Skill: Biting Tempest and then depart.

Continue on to open a Strongbox with a Thick Cuirass, which you should immediately equip. Then you'll enter into a large overgrown section of this metro station that's crawling with Golems.

3. Defeat Every Enemy

There are seven Golems that you need to destroy to proceed here. This is a fairly straightforward gauntlet involving two flying Golems that you should shoot first, then a small horde of other Golems which will emerge from the edges of the room to try and crowd you.

As is always the case when dealing with a cadre of Golems, try to isolate them one at a time and watch out for the huge strikes from the single Elite Enemy Golem. (If you haven't realised by now, the Elite Enemies are the true challenges of this game, and more capable of one-shotting you than many of the bosses.)

When the Golems are downed, enter the gate that opens and continue onwards.

Mark step as completed.

4. Toward the Reservoir (Part 2)

Beyond the Golem room is the Shopping Mall Camp. Save, then follow the marker to enter the mall proper. A headless Golem - known as a Rusted Sparking Golem - will try to rush at you and blow up in your face, so shoot it before it gets close.

Following this encounter, you'll enter a room with ledges. There's an Electronic Brain on the ground-level, and two more Rusted Sparking Golems to contend with before you unlock the Platform Entrance Camp.

Enter the hole that's lit by a green light when you're ready. This leads to another underground stretch of destroyed train cars and several patrolling Golems. Wreck them and activate the northern generator.

One has to wonder how these generators are still capable of running, considering that we're in the year 4026 and the apocalypse seemingly happened a while ago. Don't think about it too much. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Game Freak

Before you retrace your steps, note that off to the side of this room is a Strongbox containing two Memory Chips, a Facility Module, and other goodies worth grabbing.

When ready, take the lift up to conveniently be at the spot where you need to place both generators. Enter the gate, grab the Bolt Shard from the chest in front of you and proceed onwards until you reach the reservoir and the Reservoir: Interior Camp. The boss is just ahead.

Lacerta is a hefty Level 13 Malefact who certainly boasts an intimidating size. Keep a close eye on its mouth, which turns red as it's about to let loose with an unblockable attack - dodge as this happens or else get hit by a number of plants that spurt upwards from the mud, AoE-style.

Other than this, all of Lacerta's attacks can be parried, and aside from the tendency to jump into the muddy water beneath you and summon smaller salamander Malefacts as backup, many of the tactics that you used when fighting Rangifer in Chapter One still apply.

You may find that you'll get inflicted with poison over the course of this battle. Retaliate if you can with lightning damage, as Lacerta is weak to it, like several of the other Malefacts in this zone.

When the fight finishes, you'll get the Nushi Skill: Dokuzeri Shower, which lets you summon Lacerta's AoE attack.

Mark step as completed.

5. Clues About the Nushi

Lacerta is now running away to prep for round two. Follow it and you'll soon come across a big hole. Violet appears to deliver some exposition about how you need to open yet another gate to the surface, because clearly the Nushi has fled up there.

Before you go to locate this gate, drop down into the hole to find a damaged Cleanse Walker and a Facility Module that you can use to upgrade your own Cleanse Walker later.

Mark step as completed.

6. Gate Controls

Retrace your route, or simply fast travel back to the Reservoir: Interior Camp if you're impatient. The control room you're searching for is west of the campsite. There's a dead Golem here with a little lore-related message called "Yearning for the Surface" that you should read as well.

Examine the control panel to learn that you need to gather Lighting Stones to power it. Gadzooks, yet another fetch quest...

Mark step as completed.

7. Power the Gate

Off we go, then. Koo will provide you with the scent to find the Lighting Stones as long as you read the "Yearning for the Surface" document. It's easy to get lost in this underground area, however (I certainly did), so instead of following the scent, just fast travel back to the Raging River Camp and head to the Ancient Golem merchant.

This triggers a cutscene where you'll see a fellow fighting another Golem Elite Enemy who moves very fast and has an electricity sword. Bind him with Koo and use your new Nushi skill to gain the upper hand, and then enjoy the spoils of victory: a Lightning Stone and Thunderwave Sword.

The guy you just saved will reveal himself to be Mikoto, and we'll also get his phone number just like Kunai's. Mikoto is actually this game's means of respeccing your stats, and you can contact him when you're in Bauera the Cleanse Walker to do so.

After saying bye to our new buddy, go back to the Reservoir: Interior Camp and activate the gate controls with the Lightning Stone.

Mark step as completed.

8. Defeat the Nushi

Time to chase Lacerta again. Climb the spiral stairs and save at the Ruins Slope: Approach Camp. To the east are a number of the Golems and Malefacts fighting it out; you can pick off the survivors if you wish.

Heading to Lacerta's lair is a straightforward shot down this path, but feel free to explore. There's a new enemy type lurking here - Trapper Golems, who lay down traps that glow on the ground - and another Corvid Malefact Elite Enemy in the sky. Nothing you can't handle at this point, honestly. A Strongbox containing a Garb of Tranquility for Emma is also worth grabbing.

The Nushi's Lair Entrance Camp is the last camp before the boss, and there's a merchant nearby. Be sure to equip the Thunderwave Sword and plenty of Lightning Arrows before heading in.

Once inside the boss room, Lacerta returns as a Level 16 threat. Its moves are all the same except for an unblockable bite attack that comes when it burrows underwater; keep a close eye on your feet for a red light and you can dodge it. You should also be wary of Lacerta's five-hit combo attack.

Lacerta's back for another dance in the mud. This big reptile's largely the same, aside from a few new burrowing moves. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Game Freak

Like Rangifer, Lacerta has two health bars, and in its second phase, it'll start tossing poison projectiles your way and making poison appear above it to thwart jumping attacks. Keep your distance and poke away with those Lightning Arrows to end the fight quickly. You'll obtain the Blade Art: Dokuzeri for Emma and the Dokuzeri: Fang Bloom Art for Koo.

More cutscenes will follow, and we'll be back in the Cleanse Walker when they're done to learn some revelations about Violet.

Mark step as completed.
