Mortal Shell 2: Stones Of Remembrance walkthrough (Part 14)
Overview & Key Takeaways

There are only two regions left to explore in Fainweald, the northern half of the map in Mortal Shell 2. One of them is the snowy peak at the top, but before we get there, there's a massive region in the east that we still need to explore: the Stones Of Remembrance.
This expansive area lies between the Blackridge Cliffs, the One-Legged Wolf, and the Mushroom Village - and its confusing and overlapping pathways connect all three in multiple ways. Of all the areas in Fainweald, this is the one that's most likely to confuse new players. So, I've put together the below Stones Of Remembrance walkthrough, dividing our conquest of the region into ten easy to follow, heavily screenshotted steps.

1. Enter the Stones Of Remembrance via Cavern Entrance.
Fast Travel to the Cavern Entrance Beacon, in the northeast corner of your explored map. From there, look south and you'll see that area of corruption from before, blocking off the route into the Stones Of Remembrance.
Clear the corruption with Mether's Breath, and step through to enter the Stones Of Remembrance.
Mark step as completed.
2. Destroy the three marked gravestones.
Take the first left, and then the first left again. You'll find a Neophyte Sester around the other side of the rock - there are tonnes of them in this area. Kill her, and then look towards the rock you're going around. You should see, among the many gravestones, one small one at the front with a glowing yellow symbol on it. Attack it to destroy it.
This is the first of three marked gravestones you need to destroy to open up the passage to a nearby dungeon. Keep heading around the rock and continue forward, then curve around to the right to enter the central area of the graveyard.
Kill all the enemies along the way; Hunched Collectors and Sesters, mostly. Once they're dead, Tarred Corpses (two of them Archers) will rise from the ground. Kill them too, and loot the chest in the centre for a Gloombound Stone.
Past the chest, you can loot a Burnt Effigy from the gravestones back near the entrance. Turn left at this point, and you'll find another area of corruption, which leads back into the Blackridge Cliffs. Cleanse this corruption while you're here, but no need to go through it.
Turn around and head down the path in the grass, looting the Ventrium on your left as you go. Next to the Ventrium is the second marked gravestone, so destroy it too. Then keep going forward, and kill the Sester in front of you.
Loot another Burnt Effigy from behind the Sester, then turn right and head around the large gnarled tree onto an upper path. Kill the Torch Cultist at the end, and loot the Bone Statue for a Laterite. There's also a sitting spot here.
Now head back down the slope and straight on. To your right you'll see a blocked stone archway, with a hole in the wall. We'll open up this archway later on for a shortcut back here.
Turn left and kill the Sester ahead of you. Keep going and you'll find another Burnt Effigy by the gravestones on your left. Now look ahead and to your right, and you'll see steps leading through a stone archway.
Investigate to the left of those steps, and you'll find the final of the three small marked gravestones. Destroy it, and then head up the steps.
Mark step as completed.
3. Conquer the Feeding Grounds.
Through the archway, kill the two Wretches on either side of you. You'll see an entrance to a small stone structure ahead of you, flanked by torches. This door would have been shut earlier, but breaking those three marked gravestones has opened it up for you.
Before you head through, head around the left side of the stone structure, squeezing past the tree there. Behind it is a statue you can loot for a Dorsalite.
Now head into the structure and through the fog to enter the Feeding Grounds dungeon.
Important: the floor of the first room collapses! Don't stand in the centre! If you do fall, you'll be put in a bad spot and have to complete the rest of the dungeon in reverse, which is a bit trickier.
Avoid the centre of the first room and carefully kill the Sester and the Frog Cultist. Then attack the right-hand wall to break it open, and kill the Cannibal Knight behind it.
Loot the Bone Statue by the Knight for a Laterite, then proceed down the path until you reach some wooden crates. Destroy the crates and you'll see a button on the wall. Press the button, and it will open up the gate back at the top, so you can access the chest behind it. But we'll come back to that. For now, keep descending.
At the bottom you'll find a pit, home to two Tarred Vestiges. This is where you would have fallen if you'd triggered the collapsing floor. This way, you can bait one away from the other and kill them more safely.
With the Vestiges dead, loot the Bone Statue at the far end for another Laterite, and then head all the way back up to the top and loot the chest behind the now-unlocked gate for a new Tarstone: the Myriad Stone.
Now you're free to exit the dungeon and the stone structure.
Mark step as completed.
4. Defeat the Broodshell Swarm.
As you exit the stone structure, turn left and follow the path, then take the first left and kill the Hunched Collector in your way.
Further on you'll find a small pond inhabited by several Broodshell Snails. They're easy foes which die very quickly, but their momma, a much larger Bell Snail lurking in the far left corner, warrants a bit more caution.
Once the Bell Snail is dealt with, turn around and you'll see the mouth of a cave parallel to the way you just came from. Head into the cave to initiate a miniboss fight against the Broodshell Swarm.
This "Swarm" consists of a Bell Snail and two Leechtongues. Lure the Leechtongues away from the Snail and kill them as normal before moving on to the Bell Snail.
Once they're dead (it won't take long; they're hardly worth their own boss health bar), head to the far end of their cave and loot the 5x Coin Pouches for a total of 500x Coin. Also loot the central pedestal for a Justiciar's Stone and 300x Gloom.
Mark step as completed.
5. Conquer the Hall Of Echoes.
Back out of the cave and continue along the main path. This path diverges in quite a few directions a few steps in; first, head through the trees on your left and you'll find a Brigand camp. Kill the Brigands, then head just beyond them and you'll find a patrolling Armed Knave on the cliff edge. Kill him too.
Further on, you'll find a bridge which connects back to the Matka's Monument Beacon. Rest there if you need to, but if you're feeling alright still, best not to respawn the enemies you've faced thus far for no reason.
Turn around and go back to where the paths diverged. Avoid the slope downward, and instead hop up to the right, where you'll need to kill another Bell Snail and Broodshell Snail.
Destroy the loot-filled little twig structure on your left for a Burnt Effigy, and then head further along the edge and you'll find two more Burnt Effigies to collect.
Turn around and look to the west, and you'll see there's a set of stone stairs leading up to another stone structure. First, loot the 3x Weltcaps by the ruins on the way - they're right on the edge by the tree. Then kill the Sester on the stairs, and unlock the door of the structure using the Crypt Key.

What Crypt Key?... An extra tip from Ollie
If you've been following this walkthrough, you'll have picked up the Crypt Key a fair bit earlier from the stone structure beside Baghead in the Desolate Peak. Here's where it finally comes into play!
Head through the fog and down the elevator to enter the Hall Of Echoes. Immediately down the stairs you'll encounter a brand new enemy: a Ravenous Flesh. They like to slam you with their coffin-limbs, but they're so easy to parry that I've never had a problem with them.
Kill the Ravenous Flesh, and then another around the corner. Strike the (illusory) wall at the end of the path to dispel it, then head past the pressure plate and drop down the gap below.
You can read the note here if you like; then head up the steps and kill the two Wraiths that attack you here. Next to them is a Bone Statue you can loot for a Laterite.
Strike the wall at the top of this path to dispel it and return to the pressure plate again. Now stand on the plate to open the pathway to your side. Look through it and shoot the bell with your Sidearm.
Shooting the bell will raise a platform across the gap in front of you. Head across it and strike the stone block so that it moves onto the pressure plate.
Now head through into the final room. Kill the lone Sheep in this room for a Sheephead Totem, loot the throne for a Dorsalite, and open the chest for a Gloombound Stone. Then use the glowing light to transport yourself back out of the dungeon.
Mark step as completed.
7. Activate the Stones Of Remembrance Beacon.
From the site of the battle between the Snails and the Cannibal Knight, head under the second of the two bridges, and drop down into the clearing. Ahead of you, you'll find two Torch Cultists and another Cannibal Knight. Kill them all.
Head past them and you'll see a Beacon directly in front of you. Head around the left to reach it, and activate the Stones Of Remembrance Beacon.
Mark step as completed.
8. Conquer the Grisha Hunting Grounds.
This Beacon is placed at a crossroads, and the number of paths can feel overwhelming at first glance. Don't worry. The bridge sloping upwards to the right of the Beacon is simply a shortcut back to the start of the Blackridge Cliffs, so you can discount that one. Take a look if you like, but don't drop off the edge, just peer out to figure out where you are, and then return to the Beacon.
Now drop down and head under that same bridge to the lower far side of the Beacon ledge, where white flowers begin to spring from the ground. Ahead of you, under the rock, there's another Cannibal Knight and Frog Cultist to kill. Behind them, you can loot a statue for another Coin Of Mammon.
Head around the rock and you'll find two paths: the left-hand one heads through a stone archway into an open stone structure, while the right-hand one takes you around the edge of this structure.
Take the right-hand route, and watch out for bear traps littering the ground. You'll find a sitting spot on the ground here. Before you do anything else, turn right just before the sitting spot and head through the small gap in the cliffside to acquire another Ventrium. Then head past the sitting spot and kill the small wandering band of enemies ahead.
After killing them, take the left turn and you'll enter that same stone structure. Watch out as you enter: there are three Infested Wretches who will try to charge you and explode, so take them out from a distance with your Sidearm (Forgotten Crossbow is great here).
To the left is the first entrance you saw; there's another Cultist guarding it, so go and kill them. Then return and head straight opposite the entrance you took, looting the Ventrium on your left along the way.
Ahead of you is the foggy entrance to another dungeon, but before you enter it, wrap around the left and drop down to the lower ledge to obtain 300x Gloom and an Egon's Stone from the stone slab below. Then circle around again and head through the fog to enter the Grisha Hunting Grounds.
Read the note on the ground for reference to a "Pale One" who you'll be fighting momentarily, and loot the Common Moonshine on the nearby crate.
Follow the path round the corner and kill the two Leechtongues there. Loot the Common Moonshine here too, then round the next corner and shoot the Netopyrs that attack you.
Just beyond them is the boss of this dungeon: the Pale Grisha. For all intents and purposes it's exactly the same as a regular Grisha. All the same moves, all the same weakness to careful parrying. Take your time and cut it down, earning yourself a Revered Gland and a Grisha Remnant - along with a nifty 7000x Gloom.
Loot the Bone Statue in the corner for a Laterite, and then head back the way you came, but prepare for more fighting, because on the way back you'll encounter a trio of Grisha Hunters, evidently there to steal your kill. Kill them and exit the dungeon.
Mark step as completed.
9. Clear out the Deserted Mine.
Exit the structure via the entrance you didn't take, and return to the Stones Of Remembrance Beacon. Rest and level up if needed.
Now take the bridge beside the Beacon, and loot the Ventrium from the coffin on your right. The right-hand path goes nowhere except to a 450x Coin Pouch, so collect that and then take the left path instead, winding around the clifftop.
Ahead of you is a Batushka; kill it and then turn right, and kill the next two Batushkas on the bridge. Now look around. Recognise this place? It's the bridge that connects to Blackridge Hamlet! What a labyrinthine land Fainweald is.
There's no reason to go back to the Hamlet, so turn around, back to the starting side of the bridge, and keep following the path along. Kill the Cultists across the next bridge, and then squeeze through the gap on your right.
You'll now find yourself inside a large camp area, guarded by a few more Cultists and a Neophyte Sester. Kill them all, and loot the 150x Coin Pouch and 500x Coin Pouch on your left. Just beyond them is a corpse hanging from a tree; cut it down to obtain a Ventrium.
Head back to the other side of the camp and break open the two cages, killing the Wretches inside. Loot the Ventrium from the floor of the right-hand cage. Then proceed to the opposite side of the camp again and loot the Burnt Effigy from the back of the cart.
To your left is another blocked off area of corruption. Use Mether's Breath to cleanse it. Poke your head through and you'll recognise this as the previous home to Hilga and Grom back in Mushroom Village.
Head back into the centre of the camp and take the only remaining path, through the open doorway. Ignore the slope down to your left; forge on ahead, and kill the Torch Cultist in your way. In the ground ahead of you is another dungeon. Loot the 250x Coin Pouch from the edge of the fog floor, and then descend into the Deserted Mine.
Inside, there's a signpost you can read to warn you against doing what you're about to do. Then destroy the wooden wall ahead, and kill the three Infested Stalkers ahead.
Destroy the second wooden wall in your way, and kill the Stalker in the next room as well. Loot the 2x Common Moonshine in the room, and the Bone Statue for a Laterite.
By the Bone Statue is a note on the floor, telling you that the "treasure" has been hidden under the elevator in the centre of this room. Activate the elevator and then dash off of it. Open up the chest beneath for a whopping 3500x Coin.
Now call the elevator back down and ride it up to the top this time. Shoot the explosive barrel up here to blow open a path back out of the dungeon.
Mark step as completed.
10. Complete the Corrupted Statue Trial.
Back in the overworld, just beyond the dungeon entrance is the One-Legged Wolf Beacon. You can rest there if you like, but then head back the way you came, and walk down the slope near the dungeon entrance to all the mushroom-y corrupted lands below.
Kill the Frog Cultist down here, and then take the first left-hand slope leading upwards to the higher platform. On your left is a quartet of Frog Cultists; kill them and loot the Burnt Effigy beside them.
Turn around, and you'll see a wooden bridge. Before you cross it, check to the right of the bridge entrance and you'll find another Burnt Effigy on the ground in the middle of the clearing. Then cross the bridge.
Following the path, you'll find a sitting spot on the cliff edge, and then, just around the corner, another group of Cultists with a Hunched Collector. Kill them all, and then loot the 2x Burnt Effigies behind the Collector.
You can cross the bridge ahead if you like; it just goes back to where you fought the Batushkas a few minutes ago. Either way, make your way back down to the mushroom area at the bottom of the region again.
Dominating this area is a Corrupted Statue - your last step in this part of the walkthrough. Before you take it on, however, head past it, up to where the ground turns rocky and slopes upwards. Up here there's a pair of Brigands looting a corpse. Kill them and loot the body for a final Ventrium.
Now return to the Corrupted Statue. Loot the 2x Burnt Effigies around it - one on either side - and then collect the Synaptic Vessel in front of the statue.
Finally, begin the Corrupted Statue Trial. It consists of three waves:
- 2x Torch Cultists
- 2x Hunched Collectors
- 1x Cannibal Knight
Once they're all dead, loot the statue for your reward: the Unyielding Stone. This Tarstone is actually excellent in my opinion, at least if you use the Iconoclast or the Axe and Dagger. It gives you stagger immunity while performing your light attack combo, so enemy attacks can't interrupt you. No more being stun-locked by fast-striking Sword Cultists or Torch Cultists!
Mark step as completed.
And that's it! Another fairly large region of Fainweald has been fully explored and conquered, thanks to your patience and prowess (and perhaps the help of this guide too). If you'd like to ensure you don't miss a single collectible or boss in the next area too, look no further than Part 15 and our Mortal Shell 2 Sanguine Caverns walkthrough, where we'll finally take on the last of the three legacy dungeons in Fainweald!
