The Blood of Dawnwalker: Best weapons to get first
Overview & Key Takeaways

Searching for the best weapons to get ahead in The Blood of Dawnwalker? For Coen, there are lots of opportunities to stumble upon powerful weapons and, as is often the case, you'll likely find you're swapping pretty eagerly as you level up, loot, and work your way through the game. While this is a damn fine strategy that has worked well for me, there are also a few weapons I wish I'd focused on getting my hands on earlier. Once you have them, you'll realise what you've been missing.
The first two I mention are really just to get you through your first few hours in the game. Then, you definitely want to think about moving onwards and upwards with not one, not two, but three Legendary swords ripe for the taking.
It's also worth noting that during the daytime cycle of The Blood of Dawnwalker, you can also visit Blacksmiths who are eager to sell you their wares. Here, you can buy yourself some weapons and even level up your equipped weapons, at a price. A worthy investment, but why not find them instead so you don't have to part ways with those valuable denarii?

Here are the best early weapons we'd recommend picking up in The Blood of Dawnwalker:
1. Exquisite Greatsword

The Exquisite Greatsword is nothing overly fancy, but it is a worthy companion for the early hours of the game. It also helps that you'll find it pretty close to Laslea Glen, the starting point of your entire adventure.
To find the Exquisite Greatsword, you'll want to head to the Ancient Circle: Northern Swamps, south of Laslea Glen. This is a daytime quest only as you'll need to use your Astral Communion Witchcraft Ability to activate it. This will trigger a swathe of undead to battle, one of which will have the Mercurial Favour Manual, a lump of silver, and most importantly, the Exquisite Greatsword.
2. Burnished Battlesword

Another great option a little further into the game is taking on one of the Ambrus's Collectors quests titled Wetland Helpers. During this quest, you'll battle a soldier called The Bloodletter as a sort of mini final boss.
To get the Burnished Battlesword, you must defeat The Bloodletter and loot his body. You'll get Blood Leeches and the Adrenaline Rush Manual, but you'll also get the Burnished Battlesword, a level 22 Epic Greatsword. This is also worth doing early on as you'll retrieve a Phial of Bakir's Blood which unlocks Shadowstorm in the Vampirism tree and levels up your corruption dramatically.
3. Durandal

Now, this is where it gets interesting. There's a Legendary sword that you can pick up pretty early on (and quite easily) as you arrive in Svartrau City called Durandal. In fact, it's a little piece of royalty as part of Knyaz Skender's very own treasures.
To get the Durandal, you'll need to visit the Tavern and ask the Innkeeper by the market in Svartrau City if he's heard anything interesting lately. This will prompt him to tell you about Skender's men who fell into a chasm, perishing with lots of now-forgotten treasures.
This starts the quest, The Cursed Chasm, where you journey to a destroyed bridge east of Briars Slough. Head into the chasm, fight off the Echo and wolves that lie in wait and loot the treasures left behind. As suspected, the lovely Durandal Legendary sword is yours for claiming.
It's worth noting you'll also find Treasure Map: Silver Cache, which as the name suggests will lead you to a lovely amount of silver guarded by some more wolves (and a rather deadly Pack Leader). Defeat them and enjoy your shiny gifts.
4. The Kingslayer

For this one, follow our Forge it Anew quest walkthrough as it's a bit of a doozy that needs a fair bit of explaining. Ultimately, you're on a quest to find an even better sword, the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy The Kingslayer you pick up along the way.
To get The Kingslayer, you'll need to reach the final part of your sword shard hunt called Forge it Anew: Executive Order. While you'll be lead to a kobold nest, you'll find it ransacked. Soldiers have taken the sword shard to their outpost that'll be marked on your map. Here, you need to defeat a lot of guards. One particularly gnarly one will drop you The Kingslayer, a level 21 Legendary Greatsword.
5. Imbued Sword of St. Mihai

Whilst Legendary like The Kingslayer, this sword is the true treasure of the Forge it Anew quest, especially once you've imbued it. After you've retrieved all three sword shards and located the uriashi blacksmith, all of which is explained in our full walkthrough, you will be able to assemble the Sword of St. Mihai once more. But, it's not quite done there.
To get the Sword of St. Mihai, you'll find that the blacksmith hands you the sword, but tells you it can be made better. You'll then be prompted to head into the forest and into a cave where you can place the sword in a glowing red orb (after fighting for your chance to do such a thing). This creates the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai.
This sword is a Level 21 Greatsword with stat boosts across Swordmastery Ability Cooldown, Weapon Critical Hit Chance, Weapon Critical Hit Damage and Damage againgst Supernatural Enemies.
