  1. Find Gorf and talk to him.
  2. Give Gorf a Weltcap.
  3. Visit Gorf again, and provide another Weltcap.
  4. Keep visiting Gorf.
  5. Observe the dead bodies that appear around Gorf.
  6. Progress in Hilga's questline.
  7. Visit Gorf and obtain the Poisoned Dagger.
  8. Give Hilga the Poisoned Dagger.
  9. Find Hilga with Gorf and provide the Common Moonshine.
  10. Visit Gorf to witness his recovery.
  11. Visit Gorf and see Hilga's new form.
  12. Enjoy the quest's happy ending.

A note on jumping ahead in Gorf's quest An extra tip from Jeremy

It is possible to jump ahead in Gorf's questline a bit, depending on how often you're talking with him. The same goes for Hilga, whose questline eventually segues into Gorf's. Jumping ahead means you won't see the full story or receive the maximum amount of rewards from Gorf, which by our count is at least 5x Marsh Pearls.

To avoid accidentally jumping ahead, it's a good shout to visit the big toad as often as possible, especially after you've saved at a Beacon and are in the Widow's Overlook and Mushroom Village area.

1. Find Gorf and talk to him.

To find Gorf, teleport to the Widow's Overlook Beacon. Go up the slope towards the pointed Trial obelisk, then veer right into a side enclave. Gorf sits here, looking unwell. Chat with him to learn that he's suffering from a bad case of bubble guts, or maybe something worse.

Mark step as finished.

3. Visit Gorf again, and provide another Weltcap.

Rest at any Beacon before revisiting Gorf. (This is how you'll advance his dialogue, and it's evident that you're meant to go out and explore while checking in on him from time to time. If you prefer, however, you can repeatedly rest at the Widow's Overlook Beacon and go to his enclave to see his questline faster.)

Gorf still isn't doing great, but if you give him another Weltcap, he'll offer up another Marsh Pearl.

Mark step as finished.

4. Keep visiting Gorf.

Keep on visiting Gorf until he starts to talk about suffering from a malady of the mind. (Deep thoughts!) He'll also start going on about how he needs to croak a song to attract a mate. Over the course of these visits, he'll proceed to cough up another Marsh Pearl.

Mark step as finished.

5. Observe the dead bodies that appear around Gorf.

Eventually, you'll see some dead bodies near Gorf, and our friend is once again doing poorly. It appears that brigands attempted to attack him! Loot their corpses to get some Gloom, then chat with your toad buddy.

Gorf reflects that his song attracted the wrong crowd, and wonders if he should give it another go. He'll burp up another Marsh Pearl as thanks for stopping by.

Mark step as finished.

6. Progress in Hilga's questline.

At this time, if you haven't already, start exploring Mushroom Village. There, you'll meet an odd couple - a guy named Grom who's boiling in a cauldron, and Hilga, a frog-obsessed witch.

Hilga's questline connects with Gorf's. If you want to see the entirety of both Gorf and Hilga's story, open our guide to Hilga's questline in a separate tab and complete the steps until we mention switching over to this guide.

Mark step as finished.

7. Visit Gorf and obtain the Poisoned Dagger.

After you've progressed Hilga's questline as far as it can go, pay Gorf another visit to see your friend in a very bad way. It looks like the malady has only gotten worse - and this time, there's no Marsh Pearl to receive. It appears a Poisoned Dagger embedded in Gorf is the culprit, and you'll obtain this nasty knife.

Gorf comments that he'll need a miracle to save him, and if you inspect the Poisoned Dagger in the menu, you'll read that "only a knowledgeable inhabitant of these lands will know how to concoct a cure." That's a surefire hint if I ever heard one...

Mark step as finished.

8. Give Hilga the Poisoned Dagger.

Return to Mushroom Village and give Hilga the Poisoned Dagger. She reacts with surprise, but she'll also know what to do. Looks like she's the one who will save Gorf! At this point, if you rest and return to her spot in Mushroom Village, Hilga will be gone.

Mark step as finished.

9. Find Hilga with Gorf and provide the Common Moonshine.

Go back to Gorf to find him passed out. Luckily, Hilga stands nearby, and tells you that Gorf is actually the Great Frógga (even though he's technically a toad), and "very handsome, but very foolish."

Hilga mentions that she's done her part and you need to do yours. So give Gorf a Common Moonshine. You should have plenty of these to spare, but if you don't, they can generally be found within dungeons and by looting brigand camps.

Mark step as finished.

10. Visit Gorf to witness his recovery.

Upon your next visit, Gorf is alive, well, and better than ever! He honours you in song, spews out yet another Marsh Pearl, and muses on how his croaking allowed him to commune with both you and Hilga, who is suspiciously nowhere to be seen...

Mark step as finished.

11. Visit Gorf and see Hilga's new form.

Looks like Hilga's cauldron experiments worked, because when you next stop by, she's turned herself into a giant amphibian to join Gorf in warty matrimony. Whatta gal. Chat with both of them to learn that Hilga finally managed to brew the perfect potion to leave all of her human desires behind.

Once you've exhausted their dialogue, the pair will also ask for some privacy... Ooh la la!

Mark step as finished.

12. Enjoy the quest's happy ending.

Finally, return to Gorf and Hilga's clearing one last time to witness their happy ending - little toad babies! There are four scattered around the clearing, and they all have cute names, so be sure to examine all of them.

With that, you've now completed Gorf - and Hilga's - questlines! If you were wondering, there's no additional reward for finishing these quests. But you have accumulated a heck of a lot of Marsh Pearls, plus witnessed one of the most heart-warming side stories of Mortal Shell 2, so isn't that reward enough?

Okay, if you still want more, try playing the Troubadour's Lute in front of Gorf and Hilga. Jammin'!
