Mortal Shell 2: All Shell locations
Overview & Key Takeaways

There are 8 Shells for your Harbinger to inhabit in Mortal Shell 2, not counting Harros, the vassal who helps you during the game's Prologue. Each Shell possesses different abilities, from Tiel's skill at disappearing into the shadows to Smert's time-stopping powers.
Since Mortal Shell as a franchise eschews traditional character classes, finding the right Shell to suit your playstyle is vital. But aside from Tiel and Proxima, most Shells are hidden in secret locations that you'll either stumble upon as you explore, or need to spend Glimpses to find in Zhirelle's chamber within the Marrow Keep.
Our advice? Don't waste your Glimpses, which are a limited resource and only reveal the approximate location of each Shell. Instead, bookmark this guide, which details the exact locations of all Shells in Mortal Shell 2 and how to unlock them.

1. Tiel
Tiel's easy to locate; just check to the east of Mushroom Village. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Playstack
Tiel, along with Proxima, is one of the Shells whose general location is revealed to you when you enter Fainweald. To find him, head towards Mushroom Village. Instead of entering the village, keep going east until you spot a fenced enclosure lit by torches. Inside the enclosure and to the left is Tiel's gravestone. Interact with it to unlock him.
2. Proxima
Proxima is also a snap to find, as long as you don't get killed by all of the foes of the Blackridge Cliffs. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Playstack
Proxima's rough location is revealed when you first come to Fainweald, similar to Tiel. From the Widow's Overlook Beacon, head north to the Blackridge Cliffs and go past the cultists fighting the Tarred Vestige. Head to the area with the white spider-like enemy, where you can see what appears to be a glimmering Beacon. Enter this Shattered Beacon and you'll see Proxima's body on a table; interact with it to unlock her.
3. Eredrim
To unlock Eredrim, you need to navigate the Citadel of Penance, find the lift that reaches the central arena, and win against the Warden, who killed this knightly Shell long ago.
Eredrim is within the Citadel of Penance in western Fainweald. This is a heavily patrolled keep full of aggressive enemies, and Eredrim's located in the centre of the citadel arena.
The Citadel of Penance Beacon is the closest. From this Beacon, move into the citadel's courtyard and drop down into the pit to reach the lower dungeon level. This is a circular passageway patrolled by enemies. You'll see a glimpse of the arena you need to enter (filled with weird eggs that you can burst), but it's blocked by gates.
Keep walking in a circle until you spot a lift, which is not far from the air current that leads back up to the surface. (There's a lever near the lift that activates it, so if you happened to pull it by accident already, simply pull it again to bring the lift back down.)
Ride the lift up and walk forwards. The Warden will suddenly jump from above, collapsing the ground into the arena you previously couldn't reach, and you'll be forced into combat. He's not an easy opponent, and the crowded battlefield will do you no favours. But beating him reveals Eredrim's corpse - a victim of the Warden's past rampages. Interact with it to unlock this tanky Shell.
4. Gragu
To get Gragu, you need the Heart of Vatra, which can be found to the north-east of the One Legged Wolf on a mountain pass full of vampire enemies. Infiltrate the Temple of Vatra to get the heart, but beware of the petrified cultists who come to life and attack you. Return the heart to Gragu and he'll die, letting you inhabit him.
Gragu's a bit unique, as he's the only Shell - aside from Sester Genessa - that you'll first encounter as a living NPC. You can find him sitting in the One Legged Wolf Tavern, which is where you also pick up the Troubadour's Lute. The other folks there will talk about him behind his back, and the tavern keeper calls him a "toothy brev".
Speaking with Gragu reveals that he wants you to give him a Heart of Vatra. To find this item, cross the rope bridges that extend from the One Legged Wolf Tavern and veer eastwards until you find yourself navigating a mountainous passageway laden with vampire foes. (The Overrun Quarry dungeon is along the way.)
Make your way through the pass, and eventually you'll see the petrified bodies of several priests. This is a sign that you're near the Temple of Vatra.
Within the temple is a chest that requires three offerings to open (all candles hidden around the nearby area), and this chest contains the Berserker's Stone. Past the chest at the top of the temple's highest stair is a creepy statue with lots of corruption around it. This statue holds the Heart of Vatra.
Picking up the Heart of Vatra will make the exit inaccessible, and the stoned cultists will start coming alive. These foes are similar to the vampires that you encountered on the way here, and will jump at you, so beware.
Despite the closed exit, you can leave the Temple of Vatra from various side exits that have not yet been closed off. Return to the One Legged Wolf Tavern and present the Heart to Gragu. He proceeds to chomp on it, and in a bleakly hilarious turn of events, dies before your eyes. Grab his Shell by interacting with his toothy brev body.
5. Smert
Head up this path, kill the cultists, and take Smert's time-stopping abilities for yourself.
Smert can be found near the Outskirts of Nochte Beacon. Turn left and head up the slope until you enter Prophet's Rest and see a group of cultists holding some kind of ritual over circular structures in the ground filled with red liquid. Smert's body lies on a stone slab nearby.
There are three groups of cultists that you need to take out, and they shouldn't be too hard at all. (If you're having issues, play the Lute and watch them fight amongst themselves.)
Once the ritual is interrupted, the screen will begin to glow red to let you know it's time to get a new Shell. Walk over to Smert's body on the table and interact with it.
6. Sester Genessa
You'll need to explore the Revenant Graves and interact with a glowing red censer to defeat Sester Secondus, a figure tied to her story. Take the censer you obtain from winning the fight back to Genessa and she's yours.
Sester Genessa is first encountered in the Marrow Keep as the training NPC, but if you talk to her enough times, she'll hint at a side quest that involves a censer that must be returned to her.
To find this item, explore the eastern Ruins of Mammon until you reach the Sester's Refuge. There's an area extending from the refuge that's full of red trees and called Revenant Graves. Near the far back of this area is a clearing rife with red, glowing Sester Genessa figures, and a glowing censer near the cliff wall.
Interact with the censer to be teleported to a fight against Sester Secondus, a figure from Genessa's past. She fights in a fashion similar to the other female cultists you may have fought thus far, with a long spear and lightning projectiles. Beating her gets you the Sester's Censer.
Return to the Marrow Keep and present the censer to Sester Genessa to unlock her first memory. You'll then have the option of switching over to her. Sester Genessa is special in that she doesn't actually inhabit the Harbinger like the other Shells - rather, you switch over to her as a totally separate character. Since she's not an actual Shell, you can only unlock her memories by interacting with the Stray Sester who takes over for her in the training room, and you can only level her up at a Beacon.
7. Lazlo
From the High Lord's Courtyard, head up and then into the Royal Crypt of Mammon. It's a straight shot to Lord Vellen, and once you make short work of him, Lazlo's body is in the crypt just beyond.
Lazlo can be found in the Royal Crypt of Mammon, and the closest Beacon is the High Lord's Courtyard Beacon. From the Beacon, go up the stairs that lead to an air current; ride it upwards and avoid the round Knight of Mammon in the area. Go down the stairs to your right until you're in the dark crypt.
Another Knight of Mammon will roll down the narrow passageway towards you, so get ready to dodge or kill him. Keep moving forward and you'll eventually challenge Vellen, High Lord of Mammon, a pivotal figure from Lazlo's past. Since Lazlo is one of the later Shells that many players will unlock, chances are that Lord Vellen will be a pushover for you. In my game, he barely lasted a few Battle Axe combos.
The room behind will open once Lord Vellen is history, revealing Lazlo's body. Interact with it to get this big boy as your new Shell.
8. Sariel
Sariel's the one Shell you'll fight as a boss a few times - first above ground, and then within the Chamber of Becoming. Be sure to break the stones, or else he'll keep coming back for more.
Sariel is first met as a boss in the white ruins in the far south of Mammon, near The Silent Steps Beacon. From this Beacon, teleport over to the high structure with the brutalist architecture and go to its centre extension. Sariel will challenge you, and in my game, our initial battle ended with me knocking him off the edge into oblivion a few seconds into the fight. Nice!
But the battle is far from over - now go and explore the stairs behind the massive statue nearby to find a dungeon titled the Chamber of Becoming. The entrance is guarded by a Knight of Mammon.
Sariel will challenge you again here. Smack him a few times, and a wall will slide down, revealing deeper depths to the dungeon. Proceed through and fight Sariel again in a room with a sigil on the ground, surrounded by four stones.
This time, Sariel's nickname of "the Endless" will become apparent as he always seems to resurrect himself after every defeat - until you smash the stones around the arena. Destroy these before beating Sariel, and he'll be down for the count. Interact with his body afterwards to get his Shell, and the Clockwork Scythe too.
And that's a wrap - now you know the locations of all Shells in Mortal Shell 2, as well as how to get them.
