🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformBungie hit with ‘significant’ layoffs after ending Destiny 2
Now that Bungie has moved on from Destiny 2, the game studio is being hit with its latest round of layoffs. In a statement posted on X, the studio said that "we are announcing a reduction in force as we reorganize Bungie." No specific numbers were revealed. But in a separate statement, Hermen Hulst, CEO &8230;
🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformBungie Confirms Layoffs, “Most” Of Destiny Team Let Go
One month after a report revealed plans to lay off a "significant" number of employees(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/report-claims-significant-layoffs-are-incoming-for-bungie-as-destiny-2-ends/), Bungie has confirmed these intentions as part of a company-wide reorganization. In a June 25 X post(https://x.com/Bungie/status/2070149689127973265), the Destiny(https://www.gamespot.com/games/destiny/) developer announced a "reduction in force" that will have a "profound impact on the people affected, their families, friends, and teammates." PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst posted a lengthy blog post about the situation(https://sonyinteractive.com/en/news/blog/an-update-from-playstation-studios-2/), confirming that "most of the Destiny team" is gone, as well as "some" members of the Marathon(https://www.gamespot.com/games/marathon/) team and the Sony Interactive Entertainment teams that supported Bungie’s operations. Shortly after these posts went live, it was reported that Bungie studio head Justin Truman will also be leaving the studio(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/bungie-studio-head-is-reportedly-stepping-down/). https://twitter.com/Bungie/status/2070149689127973265 "As the leaders of Bungie, past and present, we recognize Destiny 2 fell short of expectations these past several years," the studio wrote. "Following our final content update to Destiny 2, and with our future projects still in early incubation, we unfortunately could not continue operating at our previous size." In his June 25 post, Hulst said Bungie's latest project, the PvEvP extraction shooter Marathon, "remains an important part" of PlayStation's portfolio. The company will continue supporting Bungie as it works on new content for the game and incubates its "future projects," which Hulst said are "too early to discuss." Hulst continued, admitting how "painful" this news was to deliver, particularly after the "extensive discussion and careful consideration" PlayStation went through before arriving at this workforce reduction. "Over the past several months, together with Bungie leadership, we reviewed the studio’s long-term direction, development priorities, resource needs, and role within our broader portfolio strategy," Hulst wrote. "We explored multiple alternatives before concluding that a reduction was necessary to align the studio’s resources with its current priorities and long-term goals." On X, Bungie said it will share more about the company's future, just not today. "Today, we wish to extend our gratitude and compassion to every member of the Bungie team who has been impacted and to those who remain," Bungie wrote. "We hope you will do the same." Despite indications that this news might be coming, it's a stunning reality to see play out for the Destiny team, which was responsible for creating one of the most influential games ever. It also highlights ongoing issues at Sony, which acquired Bungie in 2022 for $3.6 billion amidst the publisher's emphasis on live-service games, which Bungie had ample expertise in. That live-service push at Sony has seemingly been slowed, with multiple projects canceled and several studios shut down(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/sonys-live-service-game-status-report-canceled-released-shut-down/2900-6143/).
🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformGTA 6 disc version is coming in December, leak suggests
A leaker with a proven track record has claimed a physical edition of GTA 6 will be coming in December, shortly after the release date.
🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformGTA 6 “Features A Single-Player Experience,” At Least At Launch
It remains to be seen what form GTA Online will take in the years to come, but at least initially, it will not be included with Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar has confirmed the upcoming game "features a single-player experience" for its November 19 launch date. That nugget of info was shared as part of the pricing and preorder-date announcement(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-how-much-youll-pay-for-gta-6-and-whats-included-in-the-ultimate-edition/). As it's 2026, you're still going to need the internet to play GTA 6, at least initially, as the game's "physical" edition will actually contain a download code(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-how-much-youll-pay-for-gta-6-and-whats-included-in-the-ultimate-edition/). !(https://blog.playstation.com/tachyon/2026/06/9245b6dd45a143b26a7877ec5a29bb5c3fc00eda.jpg?resize=1088%2C612&cropstrategy=smart&zoom=1) Not launching with online multiplayer actually puts GTA 6 in the same boat as GTA 5, which didn't receive its GTA Online component until a few weeks after launch back in 2013. Of course, there was already a plan in place for that, whereas with GTA 6, it remains very unclear how online multiplayer will function in some future iteration of GTA Online, assuming there is one. Preorders include a free month of GTA+, which comes with GTA Online content, and Rockstar says it's "the best way to get the most out of its ever-evolving world," but we'll have to wait and see if that's still the case a year from now. As many expected, GTA 6 will be expensive(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-how-much-youll-pay-for-gta-6-and-whats-included-in-the-ultimate-edition/). It launches on November 19 for $80 on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the $100 Ultimate Edition contains a whole bunch of additional content, including extra story missions. Preorders open June 25.

Halo: Campaign Evolved Local Split-Screen On PS5 Will Require Separate Microsoft-Connected PlayStation Accounts, But Not PlayStation Plus
!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/22/935bab9c/halomenu.jpg.webp) On Friday afternoon, Halo Studios published an extensive FAQ(https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/june-community-qa-halo-campaign-evolved) answering a number of questions about its upcoming Halo: Combat Evolved remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved(https://gameinformer.com/halo). In a section covering how local, split-screen co-op will work on PlayStation 5, Halo Studios wrote, "If you're playing split-screen on PlayStation 5, both accounts will need to have PlayStation Plus and be linked to a Microsoft account. Having these active PlayStation Plus subscriptions will also provide access to online co-op play." Following online frustration over this requirement, Halo Studios shared an update on X(https://x.com/Halo/status/2068499211868643333), writing, "We incorrectly stated that PlayStation Plus is required for local co-op splitscreen play. Local splitscreen co-op requires a PlayStation account for each player but does not require a PlayStation Plus account." It then updated the FAQ with the bolded addition, "A PlayStation Plus account is NOT required for local splitscreen co-op." > We incorrectly stated that PlayStation Plus is required for local co-op splitscreen play. Local splitscreen co-op requires a PlayStation account for each player but does not require a PlayStation Plus account. <https://t.co/dzemK02U1h> > > — Halo (@Halo) June 21, 2026(https://x.com/Halo/status/2068499211868643333?refsrc=twsrc%5Etfw) Paid PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live subscriptions are still required for online co-op play, but local play will not require any subscriptions. Both players will, however, still need accounts connected to the platform of choice, and PlayStation and Steam players will need to connect their accounts to a Microsoft account. This means that playing Halo: Campaign Evolved split-screen won't be as simple as it was in 2001 with Halo: Combat Evolved, when the requirements of playing couch co-op were just plugging in a second controller and pressing start. This modern, over-complicated process of playing couch co-op games is not an invention of Halo: Campaign Evolved, but the mistaken and quickly retracted requirement of needing PlayStation Plus to play local, co-op certainly shines a spotlight on this frustrating facet of modern gaming. In much cooler Halo: Campaign Evolved news, Halo Studios also published a six-hour video of the game's start screen, which you can check out below. Halo: Campaign Evolved is currently the game on our cover(https://www.gameinformer.com/cover-reveal/2026/06/16/cover-reveal-halo-campaign-evolved), and there's still time to subscribe to get the issue in the mail(https://www.gameinformer.com/subscribe). We also have interviews with the Halo Studios team about topics like the PlayStation 5 Pro version of the game actually being the best place to play Campaign Evolved(https://www.gameinformer.com/2026/06/16/ps5-pro-is-likely-the-best-place-to-play-halo-campaign-evolved). 🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformSpider-Man Brand New day won't ever beat the best Spider-Man movie ever
Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks great, but ther's no way it will be as good as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 from 2004 starring Tobey Maguire
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Is Getting The Brand New Day Suit.
!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/19/ea510944/spidermanBND-2.jpg.webp) With Spider-Man: Brand New Day set to hit theaters next month, Insomniac Games is celebrating the only way it can: by adding a new suit to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2(https://gameinformer.com/review/marvels-spider-man-2/sticking-the-landing). Naturally, the suit will be based on Spidey’s latest duds in the new film. On July 28 – three days before the July 31 premiere of Brand New Day – a free update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will add the "Fresh Start" suit from the film to the PlayStation 5 and PC versions of the game. It’s the first new Spidey suit to be added to the game since June 2024(https://gameinformer.com/2024/06/11/an-into-the-spider-verse-costume-and-more-are-coming-to-spider-man-2-later-this-month). !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/19/88ad5a98/marvels-spiderman-2-fresh-start-suit.jpg.webp)(https://gameinformer.com/href) It’s nice to see Insomniac return to Spider-Man, if briefly, as the studio is currently preparing its next superhero game, Marvel’s Wolverine(https://gameinformer.com/state-of-play/2025/09/24/marvels-wolverine-comes-out-swinging-in-gameplay-trailer), for its September 15 launch. 🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformSony Didn’t Do It, So Someone Else Made An App To Unlock DualSense On PC
Almost six years after it was first released for the PS5 console, the DualSense controller is still one of the best peripherals for gaming thanks to its haptic feedback features. But on PC? Those features do work, but with a USB-C string attached, technically. Hope might finally be on the horizon, as one app is promising to make the full DualSense package work wirelessly on PC--for a price. A new update to the third-party app DSX has unlocked wireless haptics and Bluetooth audio on PC--alongside several other features like custom profiles and a suite of customization options. Spotted by Digital Foundry(https://www.digitalfoundry.net/news/2026/06/dsx-pc-app-beta-adds-haptic-support-bluetooth-audio-to-sony-dualsense-controllers-connected-wirelessly), the beta version of the new patch essentially allows a DualSense to operate the same on PC as it would on PS5, by creating a "virtual" DualSense that receives signals from supported games. The feature is available to owners of the DSX Steam app(https://store.steampowered.com/app/1812620/DSX/) and its DSX+ DLC, which is moderately priced at under $12 if you buy it in a bundle deal. Normally, the only way to unlock full DualSense features on PC is to connect it directly to your system via USB-C. See on Steam(https://store.steampowered.com/app/1812620/DSX/) For now, it looks like this is the best option for anyone wanting to get the most out of games that support the unique features of the DualSense, including Sony's own PlayStation Studios ports. Bafflingly, Sony never once sought to capitalize on the PC market by releasing a dongle for the DualSense that could unlock the full functionality of the controller on that platform, although homebrew efforts have sought to fill that gap in the market. The DualSense controller has remained largely the same since it was first released, with software updates further tweaking it over the years. A few years ago, Sony released the beefier DualSense Edge(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-dualsense-edge-review-go-pro/1100-6510867/) controller, an upgraded peripheral designed to offer a high-end experience to users. What does the future hold for controller technology? Sony isn't ready to spill the beans just yet, but it is exploring several ideas--like a controller with buttons that can dynamically harden or soften(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-files-patent-application-for-controller-with-buttons-that-harden-around-your-finger/) depending on what's happening in your game.
