Pokemon Winds And Waves Could Have 300 New Pokemon, But Don’t Get Too Excited

Pokemon Winds And Waves Could Have 300 New Pokemon, But Don’t Get Too Excited

Pokemon Winds and Waves(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-winds-and-waves-release-date-gameplay-and-everything-we-know-so-far/1100-6538522/) won't be out until 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-wait-for-pokemon-winds-and-waves-will-be-the-franchises-longest-yet/1100-6538473/), but it looks like a few Poke-leaks are already surfacing. The Switch 2 exclusive is the next mainline entry in the series, and like previous games before it, it'll introduce a whole new region populated with unique Pokemon. Just how many new Pokemon will there be? According to one report, we could be looking at hundreds of new critters to collect. Traditionally, each new mainline Pokemon game introduces around 100 new Pokemon--Generations 6-9 were the exception here--and we've already seen the starter Pokemon for Generation 10--Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. According to the usually reliable Centro Leaks, Pokemon Winds and Waves will have around 300 new Pokemon and forms in the game, and that's an important distinction. If the trio of starter Pokemon follows the usual pattern of having two evolutionary forms, then that's nine Pokemon right off the Zubat. Throw in brand-new pocket monsters--including challenging Legendary Pokemon--and the number climbs even further. https://twitter.com/CentroLeaks/status/2074524693269266509 But as mentioned above, this number also includes Pokemon forms. That's a broad term, but usually, it includes regional variants of existing Pokemon, transformed versions based on a game-exclusive gimmick like the Gigantimax gameplay mechanic, and new evolutions for older Pokemon. Combine all that, and it's not unfeasible for Pokemon Wind and Waves to reach that reported number of 300 new Pokemon. "An important note is that the only aspect we've been able to verify that multiple sources have heard independently is about the number of 300 new Pokemon placeholders," Centro Leaks added(https://x.com/CentroLeaks/status/2074692805666947266). Currently, the record for new additions to a Pokemon game belongs to Pokemon Black and White, which saw 156 new Pokemon added to the franchise. Other rumors circulating around Pokemon Winds and Waves claim that MMOs will inspire the game and will have a deep focus on communication. Post-launch DLC for the game is also said to be in development already, and one of the new battle gimmicks is reportedly based around the concept of weather, with Pokemon like Arcanine, Pikachu, and Kecleon getting special forms based on the conditions around them. In case you missed the initial reveal for it, you can check out an orchestral behind-the-scenes video(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-winds-and-waves-new-video-is-packed-with-adventure-vibes/1100-6539915/) for Pokemon Winds and Waves' first reveal trailer. Original Nintendo Switch Will Be Discontinued In Europe

Original Nintendo Switch Will Be Discontinued In Europe

Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the original Nintendo Switch, which remains in active production despite the debut of Switch 2 in 2025. However, the Switch's time will be coming to a close in Europe just shy of a decade after its initial release. According to a notice on Nintendo's official site(https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Support/Nintendo-Switch-2/Information-about-upcoming-battery-related-revisions-to-some-Nintendo-products-3132901.html), the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED will no longer be available to European retailers after mid-February 2027. Nintendo Store will also stop carrying the original Switch models for European markets in that same month. Nintendo hasn't signaled when the Switch will be retired in North America, but the company had a greater incentive to shut it down in Europe first. The European Union passed a new regulation that requires Nintendo and other console makers to ship products that allow users to change their own batteries(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/switch-2-systems-with-swappable-batteries-coming-this-year-but-not-in-the-us/). Changing the design of the first Switch to allow owners to change its batteries wouldn't be very cost-effective, given it was already near the end of its lifetime. So Nintendo discontinued it instead. However, Nintendo will comply with Europe's Right to Repair directive and begin releasing Switch 2 consoles with replaceable batteries(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/switch-2-systems-with-swappable-batteries-coming-this-year-but-not-in-the-us/) as soon as this summer. Nintendo has indicated that these new models are virtually identical to the Switch 2 console that's already on the market. While those plans are in motion, Nintendo added that "Due to a variety of factors, revised products may not become available in all European countries simultaneously." Presumably that means the ongoing memory and component shortages may slow down the pace of that rollout. Given Sony's recent decision to stop releasing games on disc(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-confirms-playstation-disc-production-will-end-in-2028/), Switch 2 is one of the few remaining consoles that still uses physical media. Regardless, Nintendo has leaned more heavily on Game-Key Cards for its current generation of third-party titles on Switch 2, much to the annoyance of games preservation activists.

Switch 2 Systems With Swappable Batteries Coming This Year, But Not In The US

The Switch 2 is going to get a bit heavier in Europe, thanks to a consumer-friendly change(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/switch-2-is-getting-a-consumer-friendly-upgrade-in-europe/) required by European Union regulations. That's because the hybrid system will be sold with a swappable battery starting this fall. Nintendo of Europe(https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Support/Nintendo-Switch-2/Information-about-upcoming-battery-related-revisions-to-some-Nintendo-products-3132901.html?utmmedium=social&utmsource=twitter&utmcampaign=Nintendo%7CNULL%7CEUBatteryRegulationsAN%7CmidbL8LZMuzbM%7C3132901) has released new specifications on how Switch 2 and various accessories will be updated with user-replaceable batteries over the last half of 2026 and into 2027. Keep in mind that this isn't a recall or safety issue, so won't affect current owners. The revised Switch 2 will sport a 5172mAh swappable battery, which is 1% less in capacity than the current model. The system alone will also weigh 10 grams more at 411 grams overall. But once you add on the new Joy-Con 2 controllers, the Switch 2 will be about 14 grams heavier at 548 grams. However, each one will beef up by about 2 grams with the user-replacable batteries. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Pro Controller will also arrive this winter in Europe but with a more notable battery capacity dip of 16%. The swappable 897mAh battery will also mean this controller feels lighter than the current one with 7 grams shaved off to total 228 grams. The Nintendo 64 controller for Switch and GameCube controller for Switch 2 are also receiving revised editions with swappable batteries early next year. The Nintendo 64 pad will only see a 1-gram weight increase, while the GameCube controller will have 5% more battery capacity and a 5-gram weight increase. The original Joy-Con controllers are currently getting replaced with new models across Europe, with no changes whatsoever regarding battery capacity or weight. Surprise Mario Kart World Update Ends A Drought Of New Content

Despite being the Switch 2's leading launch game, Mario Kart World hasn't gotten much in terms of proper new content. But update 1.7.0(https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/aid/68580/~/how-to-update-mario-kart-world?gl=117yhvnbgclauMjg1MTM5NTAyLjE3ODIyMjc1NjU.gaOTkxNjczNzM2LjE3MDA1MzA3Njg.gaF6ERC4HMNZczE3ODI5MTIzNTAkbzEyOSRnMSR0MTc4MjkxMjQ3MyRqNjAkbDEkaDEzMzk4MzQ0MjA.) just dropped for the game, and it adds two Knockout Tour routes for players to burn rubber on. The Drill Rally starts at Wario Shipyard and ends in Bowser's Castle, while the Boomerang Rally extends from Salty Salty Speedway to Whistlestop Summit. Nintendo's website(https://www.nintendo.com/us/whatsnew/mario-kart-world-update-adds-two-new-routes-to-knockout-tour-and-more/) mentions that additional routes will be added in future updates, and the game's menu indicates that six more are on the way. Mind you, there aren't any new tracks or expansions to the open world included in this new update, but the addition of new Knockout Tour routes signals that Nintendo isn't done with the game yet. https://twitter.com/NintendoEurope/status/2072228720501240314?s=20 As a bonus, Mario Kart World's photo mode now lets you add stickers to your pictures, with touchscreen and mouse support sure to make sticker placement even easier. Other changes in version 1.7.0 include changes to item rates(https://x.com/Mankalor/status/2072281683563286855) and other gameplay adjustments. Previous Mario Kart World updates include the addition of Bob-omb Blast(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/explosive-update-for-mario-kart-world-adds-a-fan-favorite-mode-and-nerfs-a-pesky-item/1100-6539117/), but this is probably the most substantial content drop for the Switch 2's best-selling game(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/nintendos-top-selling-switch-2-games-of-all-time/2900-7694/6) yet. The Mario Kart World community on Reddit(https://www.reddit.com/r/MarioKartWorld/comments/1ukcabo/mariokartworldupdateaddstwonewroutesto/) appears quite excited to have received anything, to be frank. Fans were convinced last year that DLC based on Donkey Kong Bananza(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-why-nintendo-fans-think-that-mario-kart-world-dlc-news-is-incoming/1100-6536722/) was inevitable, but there's been no hint of such an update. At least with this patch for Mario Kart World, hope for more tracks, costumes, and such can race on.
