The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Reaches $1 Billion, And It’s The First 2026 Film To Do So

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues to soar at the box office, despite already being available to watch at home, and now it's crossed a major milestone. The animated movie from Illumination, Universal, and Nintendo has exceeded $1 billion worldwide. It's made $429 million from North America and $571.5 million from international markets for a global total of just over $1 billion(https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt28650488/?ref=boser1). The movie was released on April 1 and is now the first movie in 2026 to pass $1 billion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuCejewteF8 The next closest to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the Michael Jackson film Michael, which has earned $888 million globally. Rounding out the top five highest-grossing movies worldwide this year are Project Hail Mary ($680 million), The Devil Wears Prada 2 ($664 million), and Pegasus 3 ($656 million). 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie made over $1 billion as well, ending its run with $1.36 billion globally and ranking as the No. 2 movie worldwide that year, only trailing Barbie ($1.44 billion). The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the highest-grossing video game movie of all time(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/highest-grossing-video-game-movies-of-all-time/2900-3968/?previewid=981596&previewnonce=fd0e62110f&preview=true&thumbnailid=1728622), followed by The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at No. 2 and A Minecraft Movie at No. 3. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is expected to be among the highest-grossing movies of 2026, but some are expecting Toy Story 5 (June 19) to surpass it. Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 passed $1 billion, and expectations are sky high for Toy Story 5, especially after it was confirmed that Taylor Swift wrote a new song for it, no doubt inspiring her legions of fans to go see it. Other movies for 2026 that are expected to put up gigantic numbers at the box office include Minions & Monsters, the live-action Moana, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Dune 3. Given the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, it's expected Nintendo and Universal will make another animated movie--and it could arrive in 2029(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/charlie-day-says-what-were-all-thinking-danny-devito-should-play-wario-in-the-next-mario-movie/1100-6539198/). Beyond animated movies, Nintendo partnered with Sony on a live-action The Legend of Zelda movie that's coming in April 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/legend-of-zelda-movie-may-feature-a-very-good-boy-from-breath-of-the-wild/1100-6539947/). Nintendo is pushing so heavily into filmmaking in part because there are only so many people the company can reach through games(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-can-reach-only-so-many-people-with-games-miyamoto-admits/1100-6539153/). While you can still go see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie in theaters, you can also now buy and rent it at home digitally, or preorder the physical version on Blu-ray(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-super-mario-galaxy-movie-buying-guide/1100-6539173/). R(https://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-Movie/dp/B0GRL61NBM/tag=gamespot-preorders-20?tag=gamespot-buybutton-20) Rent The Super Mario Galaxy Movie at Amazon(https://www.amazon.com/Super-Mario-Galaxy-Movie/dp/B0GRL61NBM/tag=gamespot-preorders-20?tag=gamespot-buybutton-20) The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will eventually be available on a subscription streaming platform, and it should be Peacock given that Universal owns it. A streaming date hasn't been announced yet, but it could come in August if the precedent set with 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie holds. That movie was released theatrically in April, came to PVOD in May, and then arrived on Peacock in August.

Nintendo Switch Online Classic Games To Get Challenges, Dataminer Claims

The NES, SNES, and Game Boy Nintendo Switch Online apps all received mysterious updates (to versions 9.0.0, 6.0.0, and 4.0.0, respectively), and a prolific dataminer has claimed that these patches are meant to add challenges. These challenges aren't accessible yet, but according to LuigiBlood on Bluesky (as spotted by Nintendo Everything(https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-switch-2-and-switch-nes-snes-and-game-boy-games-reportedly-getting-challenges/)), they will be similar to what players saw in the 2013 Wii U game NES Remix(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/nes-remix-review/1900-6415612/). https://bsky.app/profile/luigiblood.bsky.social/post/3mnr4xhpypc2w For the many who skipped out on the Wii U, NES Remix contained quick excerpts of classic NES games, challenging players to complete parts of titles like Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda with specific objectives or constraints. NES Remix also contained more outlandish "remixes" of classic games (e.g., completing a level of Donkey Kong as Link), but LuigiBlood doesn't believe that the Nintendo Switch Online challenges will have anything of the sort. As of now, there are 84 NES games, 77 SNES games, and 43 Game Boy games on the NSO service in the North American and PAL regions. According to LuigiBlood(https://bsky.app/profile/luigiblood.bsky.social/post/3mnrf2uqzk22w), these challenges will only be for specific games and will be accessible through the NSO app on the Switch home menu. Any possible rewards that would come with these challenges are unknown at this point. An announcement of such a feature for Nintendo Classics would be perfectly suited for a Nintendo Direct, and it just so happens that the company confirmed that a presentation will stream on Tuesday, June 9(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-direct-confirmed-for-june/). 'The Blood Of Dawnwalker: The Art Of The Game' Arrives This November From Titan Books

!The Blood of Dawnwalker Dark Horse Art Book Cover Reveal(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/05/6acf130d/artdawnwalkerheader.jpg.webp) Game Informer can exclusively reveal that The Blood of Dawnwalker(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/the-blood-of-dawnwalker), the vampire RPG launching this September that's also our current cover story game(https://gameinformer.com/dawnwalker), is getting the art book treatment later this year. More specifically, The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Art of the Game will be published on November 24, just a couple of months after the debut game from Rebel Wolves launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 3(https://www.gameinformer.com/2026/04/28/the-blood-of-dawnwalker-the-vampire-rpg-from-former-witcher-3-and-cyberpunk-2077-devs). Titan Books is publishing the art book, which is set to feature 192 pages of artwork, behind-the-scenes insight, and exclusive interviews exploring the creation of this new world. It's being authored by Matthew Pellett, a veteran magazine editor and gaming consultant whose writing contributions include bylines at Edge, PC Gamer, Official Xbox Magazine, Nintendo Gamer, and more. It will be published as a hardcover book for $50. Here's a look at the official cover for The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Art of the Game: !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/05/f6dc92ab/blood-of-the-dawnwalker-sale-cover-003.jpg.webp) For the uninitiated, The Blood of Dawnwalker sees Rebel Wolves draw on their veteran experience and history working on RPGs like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 to deliver a vampiric story set in 14th-century Europe. As the Black Death plague spreads across the wartorn lands, vampires seize on the opportunity to leave the shadows and claim what they feel denied of for centuries: freedom and power. Other mysterious creatures of the night follow suit, and protagonist Coen, himself turned into a Dawnwalker – human by day, vampire by night – must fight against the clock to save his family. Uniquely, Coen will fight with a sword in unique directional-based melee combat by day, but can tap into his vampiric abilities and deadly claws at night. You can read plenty more about that in Game Informer's The Blood of Dawnwalker coverage hub, which includes all kinds of stories, such as: - Exclusive Details On How Romance And Infamy Are Handled(https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2026/05/15/exclusive-details-on-how-romance-and-infamy-are-handled) - Just how Choice-Driven Is Rebel Wolves' Debut Game?(https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2026/05/25/just-how-choice-driven-is-rebel-wolves-debut-game) - How The Combat Hopes To Keep You Immersed In The Action(https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2026/06/03/how-the-combat-hopes-to-keep-you-immersed-in-the-action) - A Choice-And-Consequence Playground Lives Up To The Witcher 3 Pedigree(https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2026/04/28/a-choice-and-consequence-playground-lives-up-to-the-witcher-3-pedigree) "Go behind the scenes of Coen's journey in this book, featuring exclusive interviews and artwork exploring the creation of this intricate and dark world of monsters, characters, and scenery," a press release for The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Art of the Game reads. "Packed with hundreds of illustrations from concept art to final designs, this book is essential for anyone interested in video game art, especially medieval, fantasy, and supernatural settings." The Blood of Dawnwalker: The Art of the Game will be published on November 24. The game itself launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 3. Are you picking up this art book? Lego Batman’s Newest Easter Egg Really Makes You Work For It🎮 Multi-platform

Lego Batman’s Newest Easter Egg Really Makes You Work For It

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight(https://www.gamespot.com/games/lego-batman-legacy-of-the-dark-knight/) is full of Easter eggs, but one of its most obscure will put a smile on the face of anyone who grew up in the Commodore 64 era of computers. As spotted by the eagle-eyed Cabel Sasser, a quick jaunt to the Batcave during one of the early missions will see Batman use a very vintage computer to input some clues as he tracks down the Red Hood gang. In a brief moment, the CRT screen flashes with some code, which just so happens to work on a Commodore 64 PC. Input that code on a C64 (or an emulator), and you'll get a menu that features the Batman logo bouncing around the screen like a DVD screensaver. Some of you might be wondering just where you can pick up a Commodore 64, but fortunately, there's an online alternative (thanks, Andy Baio(https://bsky.app/profile/andy.baio.net/post/3mnq22r3l6c2d)). https://bsky.app/profile/cabel.panic.com/post/3mnpxqsbwok2i The Commodore 64 emulator(https://ty64.krissz.hu/) works just fine--we had to really dig deep to figure out how it works--and you can view the Easter egg on your PC. Just click the three vertical dots icon in the bottom right, paste the copied GitHub text from your clipboard in, and hit enter. This is one deep cut of an Easter egg, as Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a celebration of the Caped Crusader across pop culture. The most obvious ones are drawn from the live-action movies, while unlockable costumes pay homage(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/easter-eggs-in-lego-batman-legacy-of-the-dark-knight/1100-6540087/) to his various incarnations across film, TV, comic books, and video games. Other nods to Batman are littered across Gotham, including a touching tribute to the late Kevin Conroy, the voice actor behind the cowl. If you haven't checked it out yet, the game recently launched for PC and console. "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight combines a nostalgia-rich story, hilarious writing, and Arkham Lite combat to bring licensed Lego games into the modern era," Steve Watts wrote in GameSpot's review(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/lego-batman-legacy-of-the-dark-knight-is-the-best-lego-game-in-years/1900-6418492/). - !4622826-lego-batman-3.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4622826-lego-batman-3.jpg?w=300) Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Standard Edition $70 | Releases May 29, 2026 See at Amazon(https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/preview?isSlp=1&isPreview=1&asins=B0G6QNXFG8,B0G6Q5XKGT,B0G6QV9GWT&tag=gamespot-preorders-20 "See at Amazon") - !4622825-lego-batman-2.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4622825-lego-batman-2.jpg?w=300) Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Deluxe Edition $90 | Releases May 26, 2026 See at Amazon(https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/preview?isSlp=1&isPreview=1&asins=B0G6QV6ZPN,B0G6QGRFHK,B0G6Q8ZHBN&tag=gamespot-preorders-20 "See at Amazon")
