Donkey Kong Banaza’s Mario-Inspired Update Has The Strangest Limitation Imaginable🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platform

Donkey Kong Banaza’s Mario-Inspired Update Has The Strangest Limitation Imaginable

Announced during the latest Nintendo Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-direct-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/), Donkey Kong Bananza is getting additional content added to its paid DLC that will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. Puzzlingly, however, you'll only be able in play it for a limited time. The DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC will soon allow you to dress up both Donkey Kong and Pauline in Mario Bros. outfits. Donkey Kong can equip Mario's recognizable red hat and blue overalls, while Pauline will be able to use Luigi's green hat and slap a mustache on her face. It's all rather cute and fitting for the series. What's confusing are the limitations around it. Starting today, you'll be able to access the costumes for a limited time, with three additional waves coming in the next few months. Miss those allocated times, or all the waves entirely, and you'll not have access to the costumes again. It's an extremely strange way to celebrate Nintendo's biggest franchise, but also, somehow, entirely unsurprising for Nintendo. You can access the DLC during the following times: - June 9, 2026 - June 30, 2026 - July 14, 2026 - July 21, 2026 - August 4, 2026 - August 11, 2026 - August 25, 2026 - September 1, 2026 The bigger update for Donkey Kong fans came in the form of new achievements for classic Donkey Kong games(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/dk-challenge-revealed-for-nintendo-switch-online-on-switch-2/). Starting with Donkey Kong 64, which was recently added to the N64 library of games, you'll be able to chase in-game challenges for digital card rewards. It's a lot like RetroAchivements, but baked into the Nintendo Switch 2's backwards-compatible catalogue.

DK Challenge Revealed For Nintendo Switch Online On Switch 2

Nintendo showed off a new limited-time Donkey Kong event for Switch Online subscribers on Switch 2 at today's Nintendo Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-direct-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/). Called DK Challenge, the experience sees players completing tasks across Donkey Kong games, ranging from Donkey Kong Country to even Donkey Kong Bananza(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/donkey-kong-bananza-review-a-new-start-for-nintendos-first-star/1900-6418382/) (if you own the Switch 2 exclusive). DK Challenge is accessed through the Nintendo Switch Online app on the Switch 2 Home Screen. From there, tasks are available to complete: There's a mine-cart challenge in Donkey Kong Country, for example. By successfully finishing one of these mini-sessions, the game will reward you with challenge cards. There are apparently easy challenges to get a feel for games, like Donkey Kong 3. But Nintendo noted there are harder tasks titled Developer Challenges to check out, too. Later today will see DK Challenge go live, with the event running through September 1. It's only available on Switch 2. That wasn't the only Donkey Kong news either, as Nintendo revealed a Mario-inspired update for Donkey Kong Bananza(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/donkey-kong-banazas-mario-inspired-update-has-the-strangest-limitation-imaginable/). Announced during today's Nintendo Direct, Genesis is described as a "new beginning" for the series and will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in 2027. In the trailer, we learned that the elements of Genesis' world give shape to a special power known as Anima, and that when battles were waged, they were decided by Anima and the Vesselai, powerful warriors who can wield it. The trailer also reveals that Anima Crystone not only amplifies Vesselai's powers but also records their lives within it. The Crystone is placed in weapons, such as swords, and is used throughout life in the setting of Leukos – academic and otherwise – indicating that there might be a school system in place in Genesis. September Somehow Gets Even Busier With Fire Emblem, A Great-Looking Co-Op Game, And More

If you weren't already overwhelmed by the choice of game releases coming this September(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/september-2026-is-packed-with-games-trying-to-avoid-gta-6/), the latest Nintendo Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-direct-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/) has just confirmed that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Orbitals will be releasing in the busiest month in the gaming calendar. The new entry in the turn-based tactical RPG series, with an Ancient Roman-like theme, releases September 17. The retro-anime co-op adventure releases on September 3. Also confirmed to come to Switch 2 in the Nintendo Direct is Onimusha: Way of the Sword, releasing on September 25. This means, as with Capcom's other new releases in 2026--Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata--it will be launch simultaneously with other announced platforms. This adds to an exceptionally busy month for new releases, which already include The Blood of Dawnwalker, Halloween, Marvel's Wolverine, Dune Awakening, Silent Hill: Townfall, and more. It's also a month that sees more ports coming to Switch 2, including Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Has Four Playable Protagonists And A September Release Date

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/29643071/fireemblem04.jpg.webp) Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the next game in Nintendo's tactical RPG series, was revealed last September(https://www.gameinformer.com/nintendo-direct/2025/09/12/fire-emblem-fortunes-weave-comes-to-switch-2-in-2026), but we haven't seen any official updates until today. A brand new trailer during Nintendo's big summer Direct(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvUPDSDZg1k) showed off more units, detailed the game's structure, and a release date. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will launch September 17 on Switch 2. This new trailer gives us a refresher on the game's world. It follows a series of warriors as they compete in the Heroic Games, a combat tournament held in a Roman-inspired coliseum, though it seems each competitor has unique motivations to win. Cai (who rides an Emu-like bird called an Ornius) is fighting to save his father from imprisonment, while Theodora wants to prove she has the strength to lead her people, performer Leda desperately wants revenge on someone, and Dietrich find a foe worthy of his blade, Answerer. You can pick which of the four is your protagonist, and see how each of them... wait for it... weaves their fortune into reality. Whoever wins the tournament will have a wish granted by the ruler, and given that the titular Fire Emblem is often a wish-granting artifact, it's likely to come into play. We also saw more of the game's free time structure, a staple in recent Fire Emblem entries. You can recruit units, travel outside the city walls to train against other foes, or level up your skills in the training arena. We also got a glimpse of a woman "rejoicing" about "the advent of the Underworld," which I think is fair to assume is a villain, and the return of Sothis, a character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/3728a81a/nintendodirect6.9.2026nintendotreehouselivejune202646-31screenshot.jpg.webp)(https://gameinformer.com/href) Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is coming to Switch 2 on September 17, and will have a special collector's edition available that same day. For more on the game, rewatch its reveal trailer(https://gameinformer.com/nintendo-direct/2025/09/12/fire-emblem-fortunes-weave-comes-to-switch-2-in-2026) or read why it's one of our most anticipated games of the year(https://gameinformer.com/preview/2026/01/27/coliseum-days). !(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/06/09/b377ba95/fireemblem01.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/06/09/d20170a1/fireemblem02.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/06/09/21174ec6/fireemblem03.jpg.webp)

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Features Four Different Storylines

Nintendo and Intelligent Systems showed more of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave during the latest Nintendo Direct, ensuring turn-based-tactics fans will continue having an absolutely grand time when it launches on as a Switch 2 exclusive on September 17. Players will be able to choose between four different main characters, each with a unique storyline. Each hero will be seeking to win The Heroic Games for their own reasons, as whoever emerges victorious will be granted one wish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl5C4sc5zk The latest trailer highlighted each hero. Kai, a young boy, seeks to win the games in order to save his father. Meanwhile, Dietrich, a mysterious swordsman, joins the games in search of strong opponents. Theodora is a queen of an entire kingdom, and seeks to fulfill her homeland's dream. Leda, a muscian, joins the games seeking revenge. Each hero will have their own special techinques to deploy, and ones that are said to be capable of turning the tide of battle. Between official Heroic Games matches, players will have free time to spend. That time can be spent gearing up and improving their forces through training, recruiting new warriors, and venturing outside of the main city's walls to battle monsters and gain XP. The Fire Emblem series has been extremely active on Nintendo Switch, including two mainline games and multiple spin-offs. The latest game, Fire Emblem Engage, offered a more streamlined story than its predecessor Three Houses, with a return to classic Fire Emblem combat and a simpler story. We will continue to wait for Nintendo to do the right thing and bring the Radiant games to Switch. Pokémon Pokopia Gets New Bubbly Basin Biome This August Alongside Free Underwater Dive Update

!Pokemon Pokopia Expansion Pass Bubbly Basin(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/3ebe4b55/pokopia01.jpg.webp) Pokémon Pokopia(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/pokemon-pokopia) launched earlier this year on March 5, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, and now, we know when the game's Expansion Pass content begins. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that the new Bubbly Basin town will be added to the game this August, and that same month, all players will get the underwater Dive ability in a free software update. Bubbly Basin kickstarts the Expansion Pass content, which will expand with "additional features" in late 2026 and a brand new town in 2027. As the name Bubbly Basin might imply, the new biome is completely underwater – you'll need to use the new Dive ability, which can only be acquired after raising the environmental level in the Bleak Beach town, to build the biome for all manner of underwater pocket monsters. Check it out in the Bubbly Basin trailer below: Bubbly Basin hits Pokémon Pokopia sometime this August. Jason Momoa Reportedly Drops Out Of Helldivers Movie

The upcoming film adaptation of Helldivers has lost its leading man, with Jason Momoa exiting the project. Deadline(https://deadline.com/2026/06/jason-momoa-helldivers-exits-1236950906/) reports that Momoa, who joined the production in February(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/helldivers-movie-starring-jason-momoa-sets-2027-release-date/1100-6538105/), departed from the movie, but the reason for his withdrawal is not clear. Regardless, the film is still in production and set for a November 2027 premiere. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are said to be searching for a new star. While it's understandable that any major studio would want a big-name actor in the lead, Helldivers might be better suited for an ensemble cast, as one of the key elements of the games is the expendability of every Helldiver in the never-ending battle for managed democracy. Regardless, Momoa would have been a boon for a Helldivers adaptation; he has video game adaptation cred with A Minecraft Movie and the upcoming Street Fighter film, in which he portrays Blanka(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/street-fighter-movie-cast/2900-6984/12)--inspired casting, to say the least. With production on A Minecraft Movie Squared firing up(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/a-minecraft-movie-2-gets-a-new-name-adds-one-of-the-funniest-actors-out-there/), it's possible that schedule conflicts emerged for Momoa. The Helldivers movie has Fast & Furious director Justin Lin at the helm(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/helldivers-movie-lands-fast-furious-director/1100-6536624/), and although his reported lack of experience playing video games sparked some concern, his track record with action movies should largely quell any worries. 50 Video Game Movies In The Works: How Many Of Them Will Actually Come Out? !Street-Fighter(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Street-Fighter.jpg?w=1024) !4504066-elden-ring.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4504066-elden-ring.jpg?w=1024) !4436762-helldivers-2.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4436762-helldivers-2.jpg?w=1024) !4482814-themortuaryassistant.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4482814-themortuaryassistant.jpg?w=1024) !4328572-watchdogs.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4328572-watchdogs.jpg?w=1024) !4482820-sonic-4.jpg(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/original/1601/16018044/4482820-sonic-4.jpg?w=1024) !El-Paso(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/El-Paso.jpg?w=1024) View Images(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/video-game-movies-in-the-works/2900-5059/)
