🎮 Multi-platformXreal’s new AR glasses are way cheaper and almost just right
I love it when a company challenges itself to make a cheaper version of a beloved product. Xreal's $299 A01 Plus is a stripped-down version of its $449 1S that's light on features but with just enough of the 1S' best qualities. These AR glasses are comfortable, they look good, and the screens are surprisingly &8230;
🖥 PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Multi-platformAssassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Has The Best Launch The Series Has Seen In Years
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced isn't just the best-reviewed game in the series(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced-delivers-the-series-best-reviews-since-2013/) in 13 years; it's also off to a flying start with more than 100,000 players(https://store.steampowered.com/charts/mostplayed) on Steam alone. That's one of the highest opening weeks for an Assassin's Creed game in several years, and the number doesn't include Black Flag Resynced's availability through other PC storefronts, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, either. One thing to note is that not every Assassin's Creed game has been available through Steam at launch, but Black Flag Resynced's performance can still be compared to recent releases. Assassin's Creed Odyssey peaked at 62,049 players during its launch week, and Assassin's Creed Shadows reached 64,825 players when it first hit the scene last year. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is something of an anomaly, as it wasn't available at launch(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ubisoft-is-back-on-steam-with-assassins-creed-valhalla-launching-december-6/1100-6509353/) through Steam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niSS6zePbYs&t=2s When Ubisoft did return to Steam(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ubisoft-games-could-be-returning-to-steam/1100-6508931/) after a gap of several years, it peaked at 15,679 players on launch day--two years after it first launched on PC and console--and it later surpassed that number(https://steamdb.info/app/2208920/charts/max) in January 2026 with 19,181 players. For Black Flag Resynced, those are some impressive launch week numbers--even if they do pale in comparison to the similarly themed pirate game Windrose, which reached more than 220,000 peak concurrent users(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pirate-game-windrose-sells-1-million-copies-passes-200000-concurrents-on-steam/1100-6539495/) on Steam during its launch week in April. While there's plenty to celebrate, several Black Flag Resynced developers at Ubisoft Barcelona(https://insider-gaming.com/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced-layoffs/) are also facing layoffs following the game's launch. Part of the cuts that Ubisoft initiated in June, around 51 developers will be impacted, while Black Flag Resynced is expected to be a big seller for Ubisoft during a lean year of releases from the company. 🎮 Multi-platformFormer BioWare Writer Says EA Always Favored Mass Effect Over Dragon Age
Following the disappointing sales of Dragon Age: The Veilguard(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-report-sheds-light-on-why-dragon-age-the-veilguard-failed/1100-6532366/), it's looking like BioWare's fantasy IP won't be making a comeback anytime soon. Former Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider believes that the series may be dead, and the game's poor commercial performance--according to EA's expectations(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-report-sheds-light-on-why-dragon-age-the-veilguard-failed/1100-6532366/)--was likely the final nail in its coffin. "Throughout the entire time I was there, we were always one breath away from the project being shelved," Gaider said to PC Gamer(https://www.pcgamer.com/games/dragon-age/dragon-ages-former-lead-writer-thinks-the-series-is-probably-dead-but-hed-be-happy-to-take-it-off-eas-hands-and-go-somewhere-dark-and-dangerous-with-it/). "The thing that happened is that we kept releasing games, and it would sell much better than they thought it should, and it kept surprising them." Gaider added that Mass Effect was treated as EA's favorite child(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/veilguard-and-mass-effect-teams-didnt-get-along-at-bioware-dragon-age-creator-says/1100-6530858/), even if they didn't sell as well as early Dragon Age games did. The writer added that Mass Effect was seen as a "slick, modern RPG" that was easy to sell, whereas Dragon Age was perceived to be an "old-fashioned" story-focused RPG, and any success it experienced was deemed to be a "fluke" by EA. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-j1zzzKWpo But would Gaider ever consider returning to the franchise? Absolutely, he said, so long as he was handed the keys to the IP and it wasn't produced under EA. "I think that'd be an interesting thing to do. To go back to the basics of what made Dragon Age appeal to so many people in the first place. And go somewhere dark and dangerous, and do things that will make people upset. I think that's what I would want to do with it," Gaider concluded. In the aftermath of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, EA laid off a lot of BioWare's staff(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/after-dragon-age-the-veilguard-comes-up-short-bioware-undergoes-changes/1100-6529105/), leaving behind a "core" team to work on the next Mass Effect game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/mass-effect-5-everything-we-know-about-bioware-upcoming-rpg/1100-6485779/). Other related developments include EA announcing last year(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/unpacking-eas-55-billion-sale-to-go-private-what-does-it-all-mean/1100-6535168/) that it will go private, as part of a $55 billion leveraged buyout funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners, and private equity company Silver Lake. Multiple analysts believe that EA might sell off some of its studios so that it can service its $20 billion debt, and BioWare could be a prime candidate(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ea-may-sell-bioware-and-dice-or-close-other-studios-says-analyst/1100-6535312/).

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Named Advisor To U.S. Federal Reserve Task Force For Productivity And Jobs
!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/02/20/8ec5d713/sharma.jpg.webp) The US Federal Reserve has announced new task forces for advancing monetary policy. Led by chairman Kevin Warsh, the list of advisors for each task force includes Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. "The Federal Reserve's commitment to price stability and maximum employment is unwavering. As is our resolve to pursue our mandate with rigor," writes Chairman Kevin Warsh in a press release(https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/pressreleases/monetary20260709a.htm). "The U.S. economy has changed significantly over the last generation, and never more so than right now. Each task force will carefully consider whether policymakers' means and methods, analytical tools and policy approaches can be improved upon. I am honored that the best minds from a range of disciplines have agreed to work with us to sharpen our performance as an institution. The goal is straightforward: to ensure the Fed is best positioned to achieve our objectives in this consequential time." The five task forces are Communications, Balance Sheet Policy, Data, Productivity and Jobs, and Inflation Frameworks. Each will be co-led by external advisors "with deep expertise in their fields." Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has been named as one of three advisors for the Productivity and Jobs task force, which aims to “assess the economic impact of new general-purpose technologies, including artificial intelligence, to inform the Federal Reserve's policy judgments.” Sharma was president of Microsoft's CoreAI before becoming CEO of Xbox, which undoubtedly led to the role of providing expertise on the economic impact of AI. Notably, Sharma is also the only active CEO among the entire list of advisors, which largely includes professors and former business leaders/politicians. Sharma was appointed Xbox CEO in February(https://gameinformer.com/2026/02/20/phil-spencer-is-retiring-xbox-president-sarah-bond-is-leaving-and-microsofts-coreai-head) following the departures of former heads Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond. Among other moves, such as revealing new details of the next Xbox console, codename Project Helix(https://gameinformer.com/2026/03/05/new-xbox-ceo-asha-sharma-discusses-next-gen-console-codenamed-project-helix), Sharma's biggest initiative to date is a massive restructuring of Xbox(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/06/xbox-parts-ways-with-five-studios-over-3000-layoffs-announced) that began this week, which will result in over 3,000 layoffs across each game division. The company has also divested from five development studios: Compulsion Games, Double Fine Productions, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, and Arkane Studios.
