Minecraft's new items are a total game changer for players

Overview & Key Takeaways

Minecraft players are using the new cushion item to pull practical jokes, fast travel, and even sit down, a longtime fan request.

It took 17 years, but Minecraft players can finally rest and sit anywhere they'd like thanks to the sandbox game's new preview build. On their own, both are game-changing features that have huge implications for how players explore the world. Fans are losing their minds over the new items not just because they're useful, but also because they open the door to all sorts of unintended mechanics.

The highlights of the latest preview build are undoubtedly the new cushion and bed items. Players can now craft single-use straw beds from hay bales that allow them to sleep through the night without resetting the spawn point. Another notable addition is cushions, which allow Minecraft fans to sit anywhere. Cushions, which are crafted using wool slabs and can be placed on any flat surface, come in 16 different colors.

Naturally, this Minecraft addition immediately led to the development of whoopee cushions. In this Reddit video posted by user LemonIVN, you can see how fans can now hide note blocks under redstone-powered pressure plates covered by the new cushions. Step on them, and it'll sound like a real Bronx cheer:

The classic practical joke was inevitable; less predictable are the new "tech" cushion possibilities. In the next video by PlanttDaMinecraftGuy, you can watch as the clever player pushes the cushions to act like a new form of fast travel. From the looks of it, routes require quite a bit of setup. Once they're in place, the cushions offer better travel options than things like sailing.

More chaotic players can still use cushions to get around without a specific set path, though:

You can even use cushions to make a rideable Yoshi!

Players are also utilizing cushions to come up with new decoration options, as you can see in the photos shared by RatchetGamer. Others are using the item to make new objects, like couches, chairs, stools, and multicolored flags.

"Minecarts crying in the corner as they realise even a line of cushions can be faster," one Minecraft fan wrote in a thread showcasing new cushion-powered movement options.

"Genius," another fan said of the new whoopee cushion possibilities.

GTA 6 Leak Shows Off Apparent Nudist Colony

A new clip showing leaked Grand Theft Auto 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) footage has made its way online, and it looks like you're going to be able to visit a nudist colony in Leonida. The clip, which just runs for a few minutes, shows co-protagonist Jason walking near a pool and several hot tubs, with dozens of naked people hanging around and dancing. Some of them seem relatively neutral to Jason's presence, while others are annoyed with the completely clothed man walking around and looking at them with binoculars. That seems like a reasonable reaction. One woman in particular notices Jason leering with binoculars and physically attacks him. Again, reasonable. While we've seen a whole bunch of GTA 6 clips from a still-at-large leaker(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-leaker-has-not-been-identified-yet-report/) over the last week, they may not have a particularly negative effect on Rockstar. According to a former technical director at the studio, the vast majority of players don't care about the leaked footage, and it pales in comparison to the controversial Hot Coffee incident(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-leaks-dont-matter-and-arent-as-bad-as-hot-coffee-scandal-ex-rockstar-director-says/) that affected Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Still, Take-Two is actively subpoenaing information(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-and-discord-subpoenaed-in-gta-6-leak-case/) related to the leaks in an effort to uncover the leaker's identity. We'll get our first official look at gameplay on August 27, exclusively on Netflix(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-extended-look-coming-august-27-on-netflix/). Grand Theft Auto 6 launches for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
