Guy Richie’s Netflix Crime Series Is So Good It’s Already Been Renewed

Guy Ritchie is taking over streaming. The director of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels has hit shows on almost every service, with Young Sherlock on Prime Video, MobLand on Paramount Plus, and The Gentlemenon Netflix. The spinoff of Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen premiered in 2024, and it’s proven so popular that Netflix has granted it a third season before season 2 premieres on Sept. 3.

“The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” Ritchie said in a statement. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

The series follows Duke Eddie Honniman (Theo James), a former Army captain and United Nations peacekeeping officer who returns home after his father’s death to try to save the family estate. Eddie discovers that his dad had been letting a drug dealer operate a cannabis farm on the estate, and that his older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings) is deep in debt to a different dealer. While he at first just wants to make enough money off the illicit business to get his family out of trouble, Eddie becomes increasingly ambitious. By the end of the season, he’d formalized a partnership with Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario) to help run her father’s criminal syndicate.

The new trailer shows Eddie trying to expand his holdings through both violence and lobbying for cannabis decriminalization. Eddie’s more aggressive moves make Susie and her father Bobby (Ray Winstone) nervous, but he’s urged to forge his own path by the billionaire Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito), who was incarcerated alongside Bobby at the end of season 1. Season 2 promises plenty of bloodshed, unpredictable comedy, and spectacle as the action moves from the British countryside to Italy. It also offers a fresh twist on the will-they-won’t-they chemistry between Eddie and Susie.
