Subnautica 2: Where to find all Adaptations and how to unlock them
Overview & Key Takeaways

Adaptations in Subnautica 2 are integral to your survival and progression in the game. They'll help you expand your horizons from venturing into incredibly hot waters to unlocking alien language. But, in order to gain these Adaptations, you need to interact with Angel Comb plants. These special organisms will alter your character's DNA for the better.
There's four in total, ranging in difficulty as the game progresses. Once you've got them all, you'll be able to get into places that weren't available to you before. Plus, you'll also be able to eat your environment, which of course is pretty integral to life. But, you won't be able to grab all of them in the early game unless you put in some hard work first. Here's what you need to do to find all the current Adaptations in Subnautica 2 and unlock them.

Here's what you need to do to find all the current Adaptations in Subnautica 2 and unlock them.
1. Pressure Tolerance Adaptation

Unlocking Pressure Tolerance is key to survival in Subnautica 2 and thankfully, it's also the easiest Adaptation to find and unlock. So easy in fact that it's in the prologue of the whole game, prompting you to interact with an Angel Comb presented to you in a lab. You place your hand inside and Pressure Tolerance is officially unlocked and ready to help you breathe in the alien world's high-pressurised air. Phew.
2. Digestion Adaptation

While we have a whole guide on how to cure digestive incompatibility, it's another one of the Adaptations that you can tackle fairly early on in the game. And thank goodness because you wouldn't be able to eat without it. The Angel Comb for the Digestion Adaptation in Subnautica 2 is located around 160 meters northeast of your Lifepod.
You'll come across it when searching for Anita's black box signal transmitted from NOA. But, you can also just head to the location and grab it before then, too. Then, you'll be able to digest food and satiate any hunger pains that are threatening to wipe you out completely.
3. Heat Tolerance Adaptation

This is where things get a little trickier. If you want to be able to tolerate the high-temperature biomes of Subnautica 2, especially if you're planning a trip over to the Alien Ruins, you're going to need the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.
Yes, there's still an Angel Comb to find and it's located around 200 meters west-northwest of your Lifepod at around 50 meters deep, but you'll need a Sonic Resonator for this one.

If you haven't already got the Sonic Resonator, you'll need to scan two fragments to unlock the Blueprint. Head to the Old Habitat, located around 400 meters north-northwest of your Lifepod. Swim under the Habitat into a hole on the floor and check the corners for the first fragment. Swim through to the next room and there's another in the corner. To craft the Sonic Resonator, you'll need 1x Basic Battery, 2x Lead, 2x Titanium Ingots and 1x Wiring Kit.
Then, head to the infected Angel Comb around 180 to 200 meters west-southwest of your Lifepod. It's a large stone structure with a hole in the bottom that you'll need to swim inside (or use your Tadpole). This one has Bloom Cankers that are causing it harm, meaning you need to blast them off if you want to bring it back to life.
Destroy the Bloom Cankers and follow the tendrils to destroy all the Bloom Cankers you can find in different areas. Return to the Angel Comb once it's healed and interact with it to unlock the Heat Tolerance Adaptation.
4. Axum Vision Adaptation

Now, if you thought getting the Heat Tolerance Adaptation was difficult, Axum Vision will need you to have progressed a fair amount in the game. Why? Well, you'll need to be able to get to the Alien Ruins so upgrading your Tadpole at least with the Scout Chassis to get past the Collector Leviathan is highly recommended and you'll also need a Feedback Resonator.
For the Feedback Resonator, you'll need to scan two fragments to unlock the Blueprint. First, head to the Alien Ruins Research Lab around 1100 east of your Lifepod. Then, head 500 meters east-northeast to reach the Karakorum Metal Farms. Here you'll see a fragment on the ground. The second fragment is at the Cicada Wreck (Therapy Room) a further 220-230 meters east-southeast of the Metal Farms. You'll need a Repair Tool to get through the damaged door. Then, you'll swim through the rooms, down the hole in the floor in the far corner, through the tunnels until you eventually reach the Feedback Resonator fragment on the floor.
To craft the Feedback Resonator, you'll need 1x Sonic Resonator, 1x Enamelled Glass, 1x Conduit Crystal and 2x Strontium. You'll find all the resources you need around the Alien Ruins area though you'll need a Processor to turn Celestine into Strontium.

To reach the final Angel Comb, head 1800 meters east of the Lifepod. You'll need the Depth Module for your Tadpole if you want to be able to get low enough to complete this part. Again, follow the tendrils to each area where you'll find two Bloom Cankers. If you don't have the Feedback Resonator, you won't be able to hit the Bloom Cankers without them hiding as it needs to be done from a distance. Watch out for the Bloom Parasites when aiming. If you hit them, they'll attack. If you avoid them, they'll disappear when you destroy the Bloom Canker.
There are three different areas to destroy Bloom Cankers and then you'll hear that the Angel Comb has recovered. Head to the main plant and place your hand in. This will unlock the final Adaptation, Axum Vision, enabling you to interact with Axum technology and language.
You'll need all four of these Adaptations eventually if you want to progress in Subnautica 2. So, follow these steps and put in a bit of hard work and they'll be yours in no time. This is what's available in early access right now, but there's reportedly more to come. We'll update here when they arrive.
With the four Adaptations unlocked, why not try out your newfound skills on opening the Axum Door in the Observatory and exploring the Hot Biome in Subnautica 2?
