Overview & Key Takeaways

Lead is a key resource later on in Subnautica 2, alongside other elusive materials such as Lithium and Silver. You will need Lead not only to produce the Sonic Resonator - one of the most useful late-game tools available to you - but, unexpectedly, to improve your cooking skills and your diet. It's a must-have resource, but there's only one area in a 500-metre radius around your Lifepod where you can find Lead. Read on to find out where to get all the Lead you need in Subnautica 2!

Where to find Lead in Subnautica 2

You can find Lead in the region around the Lander Garage Cicada Wreck, exactly 400 metres northeast of the Lifepod. As you approach the Cicada Wreck, you'll see numerous shallow canyons in the terrain, often with fast-flowing water currents moving through them. Lead deposits form at the base of these canyons, which makes this the very best place to get Lead for all your crafting needs in Subnautica 2.

Lead deposits are easily spotted thanks to their deep purple colour, and cuboid texture. Lead spawns in these canyons in the form of both large deposits and small nodes. The large deposits can only be mined using a Sonic Resonator, so until you've crafted one, you will need to take from the small Lead nodes instead.

There is some danger to this region where the Lead is found. Water currents can easily sweep you up and displace you dozens of metres. And, more importantly, there is a fairly large Marrowbreach roaming the area around the Lander Garage.

The Marrowbreach is a powerful and hostile apex predator, the most dangerous creature you'll come across in Subnautica besides the massive Leviathans. Approach the area carefully, and try to limit your time in the open ocean, staying close to the seabed and/or the wreckage so you can flee around corners and break line of sight with the Marrowbreach if it locates you.

Despite the Marrowbreach's presence, this region is still by far the best (and closest) location for Lead in Subnautica 2. Once you've collected all that you need, head home and you'll be able to craft a plethora of new items and equipment.

What can you make with Lead?

Lead in Subnautica 2 is primarily used (this might surprise you) in the production of food, as it is combined with Salt to create Sugar Of Saturn. But it also has uses in component and tool creation. Here's the full list of everything you can make using Lead:

ItemMade InRequires

Cherimoya ChutneyFabricator1x Sugar Of Saturn
PavlovaFabricator1x Sugar Of Saturn
Sonic ResonatorFabricator2x Lead
Germanium IngotProcessor2x Lead

*Germanium Ingots can also be processed from Silver, so technically Lead isn't necessary to craft Power Storage.

With that, we conclude this quick primer on where to find Lead in Subnautica 2. But that's only one of the various resources you need. There's a long list of vital resources, and the top of the list is breathable air. While you're here, why not check out our guide on how to increase your max Oxygen supply in Subnautica 2?
