"Pathetic. Pathetic. Keyboard courage. Can't stand it. The only people that I give a Call of Duty get-out-of-jail-free card to is the military. They're out there serving and they're bored and they want to entertain themselves? Okay, maybe. Kids? Uh-uh," he said.
Berg, who spent time with real Navy SEALs for the Lone Survivor movie, including the man the film was based on--Marcus Luttrell--said he knows some SEALs play video games. But he tells these people that he thinks doing so is "pathetic."
"I think anyone that sits around playing video games for four hours ... It's weak. Get out, do something," he said.
Berg said these things more than a decade ago, and his opinions may have changed since then. It's also possible they have not, nor can anyone say if his opinions on games would have any bearing on the Call of Duty movie.
The Call of Duty movie is set for release in June 2028. It's coming from movie studio Paramount, which is run by Call of Duty super-fan David Ellison. So far, there is no word yet on a cast for the film. Activision has been trying to make a Call of Duty movie for a decade already, and there are never any guarantees in Hollywood. Paramount is also in the process of trying to buy Warner Bros. Discovery for over $100 billion.
The Call of Duty vs. Battlefield rivalry will extend to the film space, it appears, as a Battlefield movie is also in the works and could star Michael B. Jordan.
