Onimusha: Way of the Sword - How to get Power Stones

Rock Paper Shotgun ยป Guidesโœ Josh Broadwellโฑ 3 min read(about 2 hours ago)

Overview & Key Takeaways

Power Stones in Onimusha: Way of the Sword are one of the most important currency types you can get. You need Power Stones to unlock most of Musashi's major skills. And yet for all their significance, Way of the Sword never tells you where or how to find them.

There are two main ways of getting Power Stones. One is largely outside your control, as it happens naturally while you progress the story. The other takes a bit of tracking down, and careful exploration of each level outside of the central Kyoto hub.

In this guide, we'll explain how to get Power Stones in Onimusha: Way of the Sword and what to look out for while you're searching for treasure.

How to get Power Stones in Onimusha: Way of the Sword

In our experience, you can get Power Stones in two ways. The first is by defeating bosses, but you'll only receive Power Stones as boss rewards in the main story. Defeating them in Takamura's training trials gets you nothing. Way of the Sword doles these bosses out at a regular pace, so after a few hours, you should have enough Power Stones to unlock four-ish skills.

After acquiring the initial skill in a branch, minor upgrades โ€” the ones that increase a skill's damage, for example โ€” tend to cost souls, rather than Power Stones, though you'll still need Power Stones for significant upgrades.

The second method for finding Power Stones is to loot them from black-and-gold chests. Most areas aside from the game's East Kyoto hub contain at least one black-and-gold chest.

In our experience, the chests in East Kyoto tend to only contain Oni Stones, which are still useful, just not for standard skills. However, in the Oni Refuge, Underground Lab, and so on, we found one chest each with a single Power Stone inside. Make sure to explore everywhere you can in these areas.

If you're tired of searching and want an easier time tracking these chests down, you can upgrade your Oni Vision (with Oni Stones instead of Power Stones) so it points out collectibles and treasures for you.

That's it for our guide on how to get Power Stones in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Precious as they are, don't hesitate to spend them on skills you want to experiment with. Way of the Sword lets you refund Power Stones and souls at no cost. If you find yourself filled with regrets over ill-chosen upgrades, just get it all back in one big rush and start again. Onimusha: Way of the Sword - All bosses

!(https://assetsio.gnwcdn.com/rasho-gan.jpg?width=690&quality=85&format=jpg&auto=webp) Onimusha: Way of the Sword(https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/games/onimusha-the-way-of-the-sword) marks the triumphant return of Capcom's samurai action franchise after a twenty-year hiatus, with all of the hallmarks that it possessed back in the PlayStation 2 days, including fast action, Issen counterattacks, and plenty of screen-filling bosses. Miyamoto Musashi will need every ounce of his wits and skill to beat these contenders, many of whom are dangerously fierce and reminiscent of Soulslike opponents, even though Way of the Sword is more of a traditional hack 'n slash action adventure game. Way of the Sword offers two difficulty modes upon startup, including a Story Mode that will let you decimate most enemies in your path. But on Action Mode, none of these bosses are a walk in the park, and some will even be a challenge on Story Mode. To help Musashi rise supreme against all contenders, we've got you covered with our comprehensive list of all bosses in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, along with strategies for beating them. It's one of the first times the game gives you a puzzle and expects you to figure out the answer based on the environment, and unless you're paying close attention, it's easy to overlook or overthink the clues. It's also the end of the road until you figure out the solution, as solving the mask puzzle is part of progressing through the Underground Laboratory.
