Avengers: Endgame Re-release New Footage Runtime Officially Revealed
Overview & Key Takeaways
Marvel has revealed how much new footage Avengers: Endgame Encore will have to tie it into Doomsday
Before fans fill theaters โ not IMAX ones though โ this December to see Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is rereleasing Avengers: Endgame. The re-release of the 2019 Infinity Saga finale is coming back to theaters with new footage to tie it into Doomsday. Now we know exactly how long Avengers: Endgame Encore will be.
According to new listings on AMC Theatres, Engdame Encore has a total runtime of 185 minutes (or three hours and five minutes). That makes the re-release the longest MCU movie ever released, topping the original Endgame. As a refresher, Endgame has a runtime of 181 minutes. If you are already doing the math, that means Endgame Encore only has four minutes of extra footage. Whether or not that makes another three-plus hour trip to the theater in September is worth your while is up to you. You could always wait the seconds it'll take for people to put the extra footage up on the internet instead.
We know that the new footage was shot during production on Doomsday directly ties in Endgame to the upcoming film. That could be alarming in some ways, as it almost gives the impression to fans that little in the MCU since 2018 has mattered.
Director Joe Russo said previously that it was "critically important" to rerelease Endgame.
"You donโt always get the chance to re-release because it costs money," he added, "so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: Itโs a really unique opportunity."
There has been no hint of what the extra Endgame Encore footage will be beyond the nebulous link to Doomsday. If I had to guess, however, I'd wager it has something to do with Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. Doomsday trailers have already made a show out of his return and the last time he appeared in the MCU was when he said goodbye in Endgame. If this is the case, the new footage would likely be toward the end of the film. Perhaps we will even see a "Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday" card after the credits.
Avengers Endgame: Encore will come to movie theaters on Sept. 25. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for a Dec. 18 release in theaters.
