He sustained numerous other life-threatening injuries in the blast.

The Call of Duty Endowment is Activision's charity that supports military veterans and specifically helping soldiers find jobs after leaving the service. Proceeds from this new Valor Pack will benefit the endowment.
There have been numerous other DLC packs for Call of Duty games supporting the endowment. A previous DLC pack for Black Ops 7 brought the real-life soldier Chris Cassidy to the game; he was among those hunting down Osama bin Laden immediately after 9/11, and then he became a NASA astronaut.
