Your Mortal Shell 2 Weapons Don’t Have To Get You Killed

Overview & Key Takeaways

Cold Symmetry's Mortal Shell 2 is finally out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Maybe you've been bodying bosses while collecting shells and leveling up your character. Or maybe you've been getting bodied as bosses pummel you into the dirt and your weapons betray you. I can't help you with the former, but I do have some tips and tricks to alleviate the latter.

When you start your Mortal Shell 2 journey, a handful of settings are on by default. A couple of these settings make your weapons an enemy magnet, which is good since you want your bullets and your swings to hit your targets. However, when you go in shooting and swinging wantonly, you may find yourself blown to smitherens--just like Redditor xkukazu50, who posted a video on August 21 of their character getting burnt to a crisp.

The problem here, as xkukazu50 noted, is the weapon tracking. Whenever you pull out your sidearm or swing with your primary weapon, the game's technology pulls your attacks toward the nearest enemy like a vortex. But if you tweak some settings, your life will be made a lot easier.

Make your Mortal Shell 2 weapons fight for you.

Press pause, toggle over to "Game" in the Settings menu, and check out the "Target Steering" and "Enable Free Aim" options.

"Target Steering," which is set to "Default," makes your melee attacks prioritize the nearest enemy you're aiming at. Changing this setting to "Light" or "Off" makes your melee attacks much less sticky so that you can swing at whatever you want without getting sucked to the closest enemy--or environmental hazard--you're looking at.

"Enable Free Aim" is exactly what it sounds like. Set to "No" by default, it automatically locks your reticle onto the nearest enemy you point your gun at. If you change this to "Yes," then you can freely aim your gun without that snappy auto-lock on, but if you press the right trigger in with "Enable Free Aim" on, you can still lock onto a target and change your target's lock. That way, you won't accidentally shoot an explosive barrel or something like that.

Outside of this, there are two more settings I recommend you change in Mortal Shell 2.

The first is setting the "Auto Pick Up Gold" option to "Yes" to save your thumb from breaking the interact button--A on Xbox or X on PlayStation--on your controller, since you'll be picking up gold all the time. The second is changing the "Camera Style" from Immersive to Action, which pulls the camera farther back so you can see more on the screen. This gives you a greater field of view; that way, you know what's coming.

There are many more settings to test as you whoop ass or get your ass whooped in Mortal Shell 2. However, these are the handful of settings I suggest you change to make your combat feel more responsive as you tackle the game's very gross bosses.

Take-Two Loses Billions In Market Value Since GTA 6 Leaks Began

GTA 6 is set for a big reveal on August 27(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/netflix-gta-6-exclusive-seems-doomed/) with an extended trailer coming to Netflix, but ahead of that, alleged gameplay footage is leaking everywhere(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/apparent-gta-6-footage-and-map-leak-as-rockstar-issues-takedowns/). The leaks began earlier this week, and Rockstar owner Take-Two's stock price has fallen this week as well. Take-Two has seen its total market cap lose billions, as the company's share price began the week around $245. Today, shares are trading around $236. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/ViceCity028725c8.jpg?w=636) GTA 6 releases this November on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The share price of a company can be affected by news, and the GTA 6 leaks have been substantial, generating numerous headlines and even jokes from the US government(https://x.com/uscpsc/status/2090157772117516766?s=46). Another factor that could be affecting Take-Two's share price includes its top boss Strauss Zelnick selling $10 million worth of shares recently(https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1223489/000094658126000069/xslF345X06/form4.xml). Additionally, Take-Two's recent earnings report(https://ir.take2games.com/static-files/4f630313-26c4-4e73-a556-a2db39514449) showed that the company lost more than $30 million the past three months, with net bookings falling, too. Another new development for Take-Two's stock recently was the disclosure that the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan bought nearly 150,000 shares of the company(https://www.quiverquant.com/institutions/ONTARIO%20TEACHERS%20PENSION%20PLAN%20BOARD/) worth more than $37 million. Take-Two's share price has bounced around a lot so far this year, and, as of today, it's down more than 6% year-to-date. Over the past year, Take-Two stock is up 3.3%. Anyone who has been a long-term shareholder has benefitted greatly, as Take-Two stock is up about 50% in the past five years. When GTA 5 came out in 2013, Take-Two's stock price was about $18. Today, it's above $235. GTA 6 also suffered a leak in September 2022. At the time, Zelnick said it was "really frustrating and upsetting,"(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-leak-was-really-frustrating-and-upsetting-take-two-says/1100-6511236/) but the leaks had no financial impact. Set for release on November 19, GTA 6 is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The developers at Rockstar were reportedly testing the game for Switch 2(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-for-switch-2-tests-reportedly-happening-but-dont-get-your-hopes-up/1100-6536305/), but fans should not get their hopes up.

US Video Game Spending Just Had One Of Its Worst Julys Ever🎮 PlayStation, Xbox, Multi-platform

US Video Game Spending Just Had One Of Its Worst Julys Ever

After a few solid months(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/these-new-releases-gave-game-spending-a-much-needed-boost-in-march/1100-6539539/), it looks like video game spending hit a slump in July. That's according to new data by Circana, with the analyst firm saying that total video game spending in the US fell 10% year-over-year in July to $4.5 billion. New physical software sales also hit an all-time July low of $85 million--since tracking began in 1995 by Circana--and hardware sales dropped to their lowest July level since 2020. According to Circana, higher hardware prices driven by the components crisis have had a significant impact on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S console sales, and year-over-year metrics continue to suffer against the record-breaking June 2025 launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. "July video game hardware spending fell 29% when compared to a year ago, to $282 million, the lowest total for a July month since 2020 ($163 million)," Video Games at Circana senior director Mat Piscatella explained in the report. "Total hardware unit sales fell 39% versus July 2025, while the average selling price of a new unit of video game hardware jumped by 16%, to $542.  Unit sales were down on all console platforms when compared to a year ago. PlayStation 5 unit sales fell 6% versus July 2025, while Xbox Series dropped 18% and Switch 2 declined by 51%." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92NCgo5zce0 The PS5 still led the July hardware market in dollar sales, while the Switch 2 sold the most units overall last month. Having been on the market for 14 months, the Switch 2 is outselling the original Switch by 11% over the same period. Circana also noted that for the 2026 year-to-date period, physical game sales for PlayStation consoles accounted for 32% of total US consumer spending, while spending on physical games for Nintendo hardware sat at 63%. In terms of content, spending fell 9% in July when compared to a year ago, to $4.1 billion. Circana noted a decline in spending on mobile games as the primary driver of this drop, alongside a decrease in spending on console and PC games. For the video game highlights, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was the best-selling game of July in dollar sales, thanks to a PS5/PS4 port of it and its predecessor. EA Sports College Football 27 was July’s second-best-selling individual title in full-game dollar sales. Monopoly Go also experienced a surge in popularity--thanks mostly to a crossover with The Simpsons, and was the biggest game when it came to consumer spending. Pokemon Go also hopped several places upward in the top ten on the back of its anniversary celebrations. "Pokemon Go was the biggest mover, climbing to third during its 10th anniversary month," Sensor Tower's Bryan Isagholian added. "Niantic ran boosted XP events, anniversary-themed Pokemon, and follow-up events through July, alongside larger real-world activations like Go Fest and a Times Square Mega Mewtwo raid. Revenue rose +230% month-over-month." Resident Evil Requiem(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/capcom-is-having-a-great-year-and-it-has-franchises-new-and-old-to-thank/) is still the best-selling game in the US for 2026, but it could drop a few places soon. As we draw closer to the busy holiday season, sports games like NBA 2K27 and AAA releases like Call of Duty usually emerge as the year's best-sellers. On top of that, early sales for GTA 6 are looking impressive(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-has-already-made-400-million-from-preorders-apparently/), reportedly bringing in $400 million before the game's launch in November.
