Dropout Officially Snags an Adult Animation Cult Classic for Streaming

Overview & Key Takeaways

Don Hertzfeldt's films, including Rejected, World of Tomorrow and his new movie Paper Trail, are now free to watch on Dropout

Good news for subscribers of Dropout: The comedy-forward service bursting with original series continues to prove it has the best taste in streaming.

Starting Tuesday, Aug. 4, the comedy platform announced it's becoming the streaming home for a huge collection of filmmaker Don Hertzfeldt's work, including the Oscar-nominated Rejected, the World of Tomorrow trilogy, and a stack of other shorts that have spent decades warping the brains of animation fans. Even better, Hertzfeldt's latest film, Paper Trail, will make its streaming debut on Dropout after its theatrical awards run earlier this year.

If you've somehow never fallen down the Hertzfeldt rabbit hole, prepare yourself. His deceptively simple stick-figure animation has always been a Trojan horse for some of the funniest, saddest, most existential filmmaking ever put to screen. I mean, watch this sizzle reel.

Hertzfeldt has spent his entire career making fiercely personal films that refuse every convention of so-called "adult animation," opting instead for something stranger and completely impossible to imitate. He's a regular at the Sundance Film Festival and made one of the best Simpsons couch gags ever. Case in point: The image of a man holding a giant spoon next to a bug-eyed banana is one of the more mundane screenshots we could run with this story.

It's also hard to imagine a better home than Dropout. After recently bringing Don't Hug Me I'm Scared and a number of other toons into its catalog, the service seems to be striving to bring any and all singular comedy voices to the platform instead of chasing obvious recognizable brands. Hertzfeldt's work is exactly the kind of uncompromising filmmaking that feels like it belongs alongside the rest of Dropout's delightfully unhinged lineup.

"After seeing the films scattered across different streaming platforms for so many years, it's amazing to finally bring them together under the same roof, for the very first time,โ€ said Hertzfeldt in a news release. โ€œI don't know what Dropout is, but I hear it's all game shows, and who doesn't love a good game show?"

Here is the full list of films in The Don Hertzfeldt Collection that are now out on Dropout. I'd recommend one to watch first but, golly, you just gotta watch 'em all. Sorry.

  • Lily and Jim
  • Billy's Balloon
  • Rejected
  • The Meaning of Life
  • Watching Grass Grow
  • Wisdom Teeth
  • It's Such a Beautiful Day (feature length)
  • World of Tomorrow
  • World of Tomorrow Episode Two: The Burden of Other People's Thoughts
  • On Memory
  • World of Tomorrow Episode Three: The Absent Destinations of David Prime
  • ME

Paper Trail, Hertzfeldt's latest film, streams on Dropout on Sept. 1.

Fortnite's Upcoming Season Includes Crossovers With Iconic Games Like Sonic, Mega Man, Persona, and Kingdom Hearts

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/17/a7d19c04/chapter7season4overrideofficialtrailer0-32screenshot.jpg.webp) Fortnite's newest season, Override, begins on August 20, and yesterday's trailer confirmed the new map and battle pass will be centered on a wide range of video game crossovers. The most notable inclusion is Sonic the Hedgehog; he'll be playable as a skin (stretched to fit Fortnite's standard proportions), and elements of Green Hill Zone will appear on the map. The new footage shows Jonesy running fast enough to go upside-down on one of the series' staple gravity-defying loops. However, Sonic is just the tip of the iceberg in Chapter 7, Season 4 of Fortnite. In addition to other characters from his universe, including Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow, the trailer also includes glimpses of Mega Man, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon(https://gameinformer.com/xbox-games-showcase/2026/06/07/spyro-a-realm-beyond-is-a-brand-new-spyro-adventure), Joker from Persona 5, and giant Tetris blocks that fall from the sky. Key art released by the official Fortnite account also shows glimpses of Pac-Man and Sora from Kingdom Hearts (who we recently saw a lot of in the new D23 footage(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/17/kingdom-hearts-iv-gets-2027-launch-window-coco-world-reveal-kingdom-hearts-anime)). Meanwhile, it looks like other characters who have appeared as skins in past seasons, like Master Chief, Geralt, Ryu, and Lara Croft, are also returning (to the battle shop). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/17/ab1eeeff/fortniteoverride.jpg.webp)(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/nocompression/public/2026/08/17/ab1eeeff/fortniteoverride.jpg.webp) Gameplay-wise, the trailer also shows a backpack-based power-up system, where wearing items associated with characters like Sonic or Tails gives you the powers of speed or flight, respectively. We also see weapons like Mega Man's arm cannon and the 8-bit shotgun, the latter of which seems to track the player's score. The trailer concludes with a glimpse of Geno, a major villain in Fortnite's lore who will presumably be appearing as a boss for players to battle. You can check out the full trailer below: Fortnite's Chapter 7, Season 4 Override begins on August 20, and you can play it on basically every platform you can think of: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
