Overwatch season 4 will introduce some much-needed map changes to Paraiso and Busan

Overview & Key Takeaways

Blizzard is revamping a handful of Overwatch maps in season 4, including new attack angles in Paraiso and a Junker tower in Busan

A handful of Overwatch's most aggravating maps will be a little less irritating once season 4 rolls around on Aug. 11. Blizzard made the announcements during the dev segment of Sunday's Overwatch Champion Series midseason tournament, with game producer Ren Soanes outlining changes coming to the Paraiso, Eichenwalde, and Busan maps. Some of the updates are cosmetics โ€” Lucio's club in Paraiso finally has his personal branding โ€” but others should address pain points players have wanted fixed for years.

One of the big changes is at the attack spawn area in Paraiso. Since the map's debut in 2022, folks have lamented how it funnels attackers into a single lane, where defenders can pick them off from a raised walkway or block their progress under it. In season 4, Blizzard added a rooftop pool right outside the attacker spawn, accessed via elevator. It also opened one of the buildings on the left, so it leads into an alley that looks out on the chokepoint. You're still funneled down the single avenue, but theoretically, this gives you more angles from which to harry the defending team.

The main street is decked out for a parade and features better access to high ground, plus a few new routes around the back alleys. Blizzard completely overhauled the look of Club Sinestesia, the third point, added new music, a dance floor area, and some special effects if you're playing as Lucio and cast your ult inside the club.

Next up is Eichenwalde, first launched in 2016 and not really updated since. Soanes said the goal is making it more attacker friendly. So there's a high ground area outside the attacker spawn now, also accessible via elevator, and an extended platform along the right edge of the map to help flankers do their job without falling to their deaths. Point two, the approach to the castle, has a few upgrades as well, though nothing that makes storming the gate any easier. A new staircase at the start of point two adds a fresh route to the ramparts, and a jump pad on the little ledge below the bridge gives you a reason to head into the sewers now. There's also a window looking onto that ledge, so you can keep an eye out for incoming threats.

Finally is the castle itself, which is basically the same, except at the final defender spawn. Blizzard has added several new windows to the spawn room, including an overhead one for mobile heroes. Soanes specified these are just windows, though โ€” not extensions of the spawn area โ€” so you can't sit there and cheese the attacking team without taking damage.

Busan gets a much bigger makeover in season 4, including some new story elements coinciding with the year's narrative. The Junkers have invaded Korea, bringing a handful of small plot points to fruition. Downtown is littered with debris, and the Junker's warship (yes, they have one of those too) is looming overhead. But the main change is at the capture point, where the Junker-fied tower now has a jump pad and a viewing platform that looks out over the objective. Previously, a walkway around the edge of the objective was the area's only height advantage The jiggly balloon cow also has a jiggly pig friend at the other end of the map, d'aww.

The Meka Base map has a couple of new flank routes meant to break the chokepoints on the stairs near the spawn points. Rather than throwing the entire team up the stairs, a few sneaky heroes can now work their way around the side and get behind the other team. Normally, an aggressive group could easily hold those points for the entire match, so these little changes should help spread the action around and give pinned-down teams a better chance of making a comeback.

The Sanctuary map has a few new points, too. One is a spring tucked in an alcove with a new health pack, and the other is a window overlooking the objective. The spring is mostly cosmetic, but the window is another change that sounds small, but holds promise. Currently, you have three angles on the objective, all of which put you in easy view of the opposing team. The window should let you pop out to take some shots while still giving you easy access to cover, and the extra lookout point means you can see when the opposing team might start trying to flank you before it's too late.

In 2025, Blizzard revamped the two existing flashpoint maps, New Junk City and Suravasa, based on a similar design philosophy: providing cover points and angles and giving players more ways to choose how they engage. They went over quite well with players โ€” people actually vote for flashpoint maps now. But Soanes said that, like with all map changes, the design team will be actively taking feedback on season 4's makeovers and making adjustments as needed.

Fortnite's Upcoming Season Includes Crossovers With Iconic Games Like Sonic, Mega Man, Persona, and Kingdom Hearts

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/17/a7d19c04/chapter7season4overrideofficialtrailer0-32screenshot.jpg.webp) Fortnite's newest season, Override, begins on August 20, and yesterday's trailer confirmed the new map and battle pass will be centered on a wide range of video game crossovers. The most notable inclusion is Sonic the Hedgehog; he'll be playable as a skin (stretched to fit Fortnite's standard proportions), and elements of Green Hill Zone will appear on the map. The new footage shows Jonesy running fast enough to go upside-down on one of the series' staple gravity-defying loops. However, Sonic is just the tip of the iceberg in Chapter 7, Season 4 of Fortnite. In addition to other characters from his universe, including Tails, Dr. Eggman, and Shadow, the trailer also includes glimpses of Mega Man, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon(https://gameinformer.com/xbox-games-showcase/2026/06/07/spyro-a-realm-beyond-is-a-brand-new-spyro-adventure), Joker from Persona 5, and giant Tetris blocks that fall from the sky. Key art released by the official Fortnite account also shows glimpses of Pac-Man and Sora from Kingdom Hearts (who we recently saw a lot of in the new D23 footage(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/17/kingdom-hearts-iv-gets-2027-launch-window-coco-world-reveal-kingdom-hearts-anime)). Meanwhile, it looks like other characters who have appeared as skins in past seasons, like Master Chief, Geralt, Ryu, and Lara Croft, are also returning (to the battle shop). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/17/ab1eeeff/fortniteoverride.jpg.webp)(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/nocompression/public/2026/08/17/ab1eeeff/fortniteoverride.jpg.webp) Gameplay-wise, the trailer also shows a backpack-based power-up system, where wearing items associated with characters like Sonic or Tails gives you the powers of speed or flight, respectively. We also see weapons like Mega Man's arm cannon and the 8-bit shotgun, the latter of which seems to track the player's score. The trailer concludes with a glimpse of Geno, a major villain in Fortnite's lore who will presumably be appearing as a boss for players to battle. You can check out the full trailer below: Fortnite's Chapter 7, Season 4 Override begins on August 20, and you can play it on basically every platform you can think of: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.
