I made a hyper organised plant shop in Leafy Corner because the people want order not whimsy

Overview & Key Takeaways

I wonder if this'll translate into keeping my own plants alive.

I am lucky enough to live close to some of the best plant shops I've ever had the pleasure to stumble into. I love taking my sweet time strolling around each one, looking at all the plants, succulents, seeds, and pots—all of which I could never dream of fitting into my small apartment. The best part of all of them is just how jumbled they all are, brimming with all sorts of strange plants for customers to discover. So, with that in mind you'd think I'd also create a maze-oasis of foliage right? Wrong.

The plant shop I created in Leafy Corner, the management sim game which just released, is regimented and ordered. Pots are colour coded and plants are separated into strict categories. You see, the whimsy will be better accessible if everything is ordered clearly.

Leafy Corner launches tomorrow on PC and consoles for $9.99

I only actually noticed just how precise my layout was after seeing some examples of what other players made. These actually remind me of my local shops, with huge plants branching out over the store, little pots tucked away in dark corners, and fairy lights and all sorts of wall hangings adorning any shred of free space. I'd like to make something resembling that, but unfortunately my brain seems to crave order more than cosiness.

Thankfully there's no right or wrong way to go about creating your shop in Leafy Corner. My store may not look quite as fanciful, but that didn't stop customers from arriving in droves and picking up plants faster than I could restock them. I ended up earning over 500 coins in just my first session—not a bad day's work if you ask me.

I then used this cash to buy more shelves to create more order for the new plants I got in stock such as orchids, cacti, and peperomia rosso, of course. The more customers you successfully serve the better your store rating gets. This means you'll have more money to buy decorations and ship in new kinds of plants.

There's also a bit of customer interaction involved—no don't run away, these guys are nice and fairly normal. Every now and then someone will walk into your shop and know they want to buy a plant, they just won't know which one (we've all been there). This is where you come in, to help them decide.

Usually they'll have some sort of criteria such as something hardy, small, or geometric—I told you there were some oddballs. If you manage to find them the correct plant they'll buy it straight away, if not then they'll leave your store an unhappy customer, so it's worth taking a look at your plant journal if you're unsure of the demands.

Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals, as picked by the PC Gamer team.

Leafy Corner really is a calm and cosy sim which you can enjoy at your own pace, as organised or chaotic as you want. There's loads of customisation and plants to unlock, but if you're still unsure whether it'll be for you then you can check out its short demo.
