Rick and Morty spinoff President Curtis renewed for season 2 before premiere

Overview & Key Takeaways

Adult Swim showed its confidence in the series starring Keith David defending the United States from aliens and supernatural threats

Rick and Morty’s first spinoff, President Curtis, doesn’t premiere until July 26, when it will air right after the finale of Rick and Morty season 9. But Adult Swim is so confident in the show that it’s already been renewed for a second season. The announcement was made July 24 during a San Diego Comic-Con panel featuring co-creators and executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano along with stars Keith David, Stephanie Beatriz, and Jim Rash.

“President Curtis quickly proved himself worthy of another term!” Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said in a statement. “With Keith David’s inimitably endearing performance and the creativity of Dan, James, and the entire show team, this series and this President are what the people need more of — even if they don’t know it yet.”

What to expect from President Curtis season 2

President Andre Curtis (David) has been appearing on Rick and Morty for years as a foil to Rick Sanchez. The spinoff has been in the works since 2021, and follows Curtis’ attempts to protect the United States from a variety of weird threats including alien invaders, an ancient witch, and French super soldiers.

“The scope of the show, in my mind, was always going to be more The X-Files than Doctor Who, almost as if you're focusing in and increasing the resolution of something that would otherwise be vast and more explorable,” Harmon told Polygon in a virtual interview. “Everything's taking place on Earth, but there is so much to experience on Earth.”

Just as Rick and Morty alternates between standalone adventures and episodes that further develop the show’s multiverse, the first season of President Curtis devotes several episodes to exploring its characters' backstories. As part of delving into how Curtis’ chief of staff Banks (Beatriz) became a cyborg and Special Agent O’Doyle’s (Rash) awful relationship with his leprechaun mother, the showrunners will introduce villains and plots we’ll certainly be seeing again next season.

“One thing you can say about President Curtis is there's never a dull moment around him,” David told Polygon. “I love the fact that you get to also explore some of the personal things outside of the office and see how it then influences what goes on in the office.”

President Curtis premieres Sunday night on Adult Swim and streams on HBO Max the next morning.

CoD: MW4 DLC Honors Real-Life Medal Of Honor Recipient Who Lost His Eye And Teeth In Grenade Blast

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will have day-one DLC, and like in years past, it will focus on a real-life military hero, with proceeds going to charity. The Call of Duty Endowment Valor Pack, launching on October 23 alongside the game, adds the real-life Medal of Honor recipient Kyle Carpenter to the game as a playable character. Carpenter was in Marjah, Afghanistan, when, on November 21, 2010, he put himself in front of a grenade to help save the life of his fellow Marine, Nick Eufrazio. Carpenter sustained serious injuries from the grenade blast. He was unconscious for five weeks, had his teeth stripped from his mouth, and lost an eye. He sustained numerous other life-threatening injuries in the blast. Carpenter received the Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama in 2014. "No matter how wrecked your world gets, the world keeps spinning," Carpenter said in the video below. https://twitter.com/CODE4Vets/status/2090856990872650127 The Call of Duty Endowment is Activision's charity that supports military veterans and specifically helping soldiers find jobs after leaving the service. Proceeds from this new Valor Pack will benefit the endowment. There have been numerous other DLC packs for Call of Duty games supporting the endowment. A previous DLC pack for Black Ops 7 brought the real-life soldier Chris Cassidy to the game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/real-life-soldier-chris-cassidy-is-coming-to-call-of-duty-in-a-charity-bundle/1100-6539766/); he was among those hunting down Osama bin Laden immediately after 9/11, and then he became a NASA astronaut. Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, but the game's beta is going on right now for those who preordered the game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/cod-modern-warfare-4-aims-for-fast-and-fluid-movement-but-a-classic-mode-isnt-off-the-table/). An open beta for everyone will be held August 28-September 1.
