Halo: Campaign Evolved’s Biggest Competition Might Be Halo

Halo Campaign Evolved(https://www.gamespot.com/games/halo-campaign-evolved/) is a celebration of the franchise, but not many people are attending that party. New estimates peg sales at 1.2 million copies sold across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 so far, around $67 million in revenue, which isn't the best start for this remake of the original Halo campaign. Also available via Xbox Game Pass, the game is estimated to have 2.1 million players through the subscription service. According to Alinea Analytics' head of market analysis, Rhys Elliott(https://alineaanalytics.substack.com/), there are several reasons for this. Sales are split almost down the middle between Xbox Series X|S and PS5 at 42% and 41%, respectively, while Steam accounts for 17% of sales. This is up from its launch-week sales(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-on-ps5-is-off-to-a-slow-start-expert-says/), but not by much. So what's the reason behind the lukewarm sales of the classic first-person shooter, which has gotten a new coat of paint and some fine-tuning under the gameplay hood? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LimYD3Ycwo As Elliott noted, Halo: Campaign Evolved's biggest competition on PC might be another Halo--specifically, Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The Halo game compilation offers better value for money and includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a 2015 remake that's pretty solid in its own right. Throw in options for multiplayer and more Halo games to the mix, and the $40 price tag makes it a much more tempting offer compared to the $50 required for Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is more barebones in comparison. Shinier graphics, extra co-op missions, and the ability to sprint in that game just aren't enough, it seems. "The price is too high for a port like this one, and the Halo brand--candidly--has lost a lot of cache, Elliot wrote(https://x.com/superhys/status/2087224210296893632). "A lot of Steam users already own Master Chief Collection--8.5 million copies sold on Steam, as per our estimates--which offers more content for less. On PS5, Halo: Campaign Evolved is estimated to have sold 544,000 copies so far, neck and neck with Xbox despite the Sony platform having a larger userbase than its Microsoft rival. Elliot explained that while plenty of PS5 owners jumped in thanks to the nostalgia factor of Halo, sales were driven by an "older, nostalgia-driven crowd" that encompasses players who are roughly 32-40 years old. Many of these people were likely former Xbox 360 owners who had since moved to PlayStation hardware, but the game didn't make a big dent with a "fresh" PlayStation audience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woUnTCVv9JU Shooters, remakes, and legacy-leaning titles still sell well on the platform, as the audience overlap skews heavily toward the late PS2, Xbox 360, and early PS4 eras, Elliot explained. While Halo: Campaign Evolved didn't achieve the same velocity as several other Xbox ports did on PlayStation, bringing the Master Chief Collection with its multiplayer suite to that platform would have "certainly" done better, Elliot wrote. "At the very least, if the rumored Halo 2 remake ships with online multiplayer, it’ll sell a great deal more, assuming it comes to PlayStation at all." The co-creator of Halo and designer of Master Chief, Marcus Lehto, also shared his opinion on the remake recently, saying that he has a few issues(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-co-creator-calls-out-remake-for-pandering-to-new-era-of-players-with-0-attention-span/) with it but is generally happy with how it came out. Following the final update for Halo: Infinite(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-infinites-last-update-arrives-this-month-as-devs-move-to-other-halo-projects/1100-6536070/) in November 2025, Halo Studios has now begun work on new Halo projects.

Halo On PS5 Is Off To A Slow Start, Expert Says

Halo On PS5 Is Off To A Slow Start, Expert Says

For the first time ever, a Halo game is available on PlayStation with Halo: Campaign Evolved. The game is having a "notably slow start" on Sony's console in terms of sales, however, according to gaming analyst Rhys Elliott(https://alineaanalytics.substack.com/p/julys-top-playstation-games-by-copies). He estimated that Campaign Evolved sold 351,000 copies on PS5 during July and 452,000 to date, generating nearly $28 million. By comparison, Elliott said Campaign Evolved has shifted 212,000 units on Steam and about 900,000 on Xbox across console and PC thus far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LimYD3Ycwo The analyst said the game's price point--$50--was partly to blame. "Fifty dollars for what’s essentially a graphical touch-up of a 2001 game was always going to be a hard sell, and players clearly weren’t having it," he said. Beyond graphical improvements, Campaign Evolved also features three new prequel missions via the Operation Meteorite story arc. Multiplayer is what Halo is perhaps best known for, but Campaign Evolved--as its name suggests--does not feature multiplayer support. Also in his comments, Elliott said the slow start for Halo on PS5 "stings even more" when compared to the success of the Black Ops 1 and 2 ports on PlayStation. Those games reportedly combined to sell more than 11 million units(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/black-ops-1-and-2-ports-sold-11-million-copies-combined-on-playstation-benefitting-both-xbox-and-sony/), generating hundreds of millions of dollars. Elliott went on to lament the slowing sales and diminishing profile of Halo as a franchise in general after the series peaked with Halo 3 and Halo: Reach years ago. "One can’t help wondering what could have been if Halo had kept the trajectory it had around Halo 3 and Reach. A remake of the game that started it all landing this softly on a new platform makes me pretty sad, as a Halo fan," he wrote. There are more Halo games in development, including one that's been described as "like Fortnite"(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-halo-game-may-be-like-fortnite-with-live-service-report/1100-6535547/) with regards to its live-service approach. Developer Halo Studios has said future Halo games will also be on PlayStation(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-games-will-be-on-playstation-going-forward-says-microsoft/1100-6535712/), but those comments came before Asha Sharma became Xbox CEO and pledged to release more exclusive games for Xbox(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-clarifies-its-exclusivity-strategy-moving-forward-wants-you-to-buy-an-xbox/).

Halo: Campaign Evolved On PC Has A Hidden Feature You Need A Mod To Access

Halo: Campaign Evolved On PC Has A Hidden Feature You Need A Mod To Access

This week, PlayStation 5 players were able to join their Xbox and PC counterparts for the first time in Halo: Campaign Evolved(https://www.gamespot.com/?shadowgame=halo-campaign-evolved). Console gamers are able to use a classic Halo feature that the PC port seemingly lacks: split-screen co-op. However, a new PC mod restores access to this missing feature. A Halo: Campaign Evolved split-screen co-op mod was posted on Nexus Mods(https://www.pcgamer.com/games/halo/mod-activates-split-screen-support-in-halo-campaign-evolved-pc-thats-just-sitting-there-unused/) by user Jpurd. As noted by Jpurd, the mod doesn't do anything except unlock the local split-screen option that was already in the game. There are some drawbacks to this AI-created mod. It can only handle two players via split-screen mode even though the game can support 4-player co-op. Users also note that it only works if both players are using a controller, and the mod may be limited to Steam users. Anyone playing Campaign Evolved on PC Game Pass or who purchased a copy from the Microsoft Store may not be able to use the mod at all. The rollout of Campaign Evolved hit a snag last week when players who paid extra for early access on Xbox weren't able to jump into the game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-players-on-xbox-who-paid-more-to-play-early-cant/) alongside PC and PS5 ahead of the official launch. Players were also upset about reports that they needed a PS Plus account to use split-screen co-op(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-fans-can-relax-campaign-evolved-wont-require-ps-plus-for-split-screen/), but that turned out to not be the case. It's too soon to say how well Halo: Campaign Evolved will perform across all platforms, but the game's secret ending(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-campaign-evolved-secret-ending-seems-to-tease-a-halo-2-remake/) appears to tease a remake of Halo 2 as well. In the meantime, players can use these codes to claim free armor sets(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-campaign-evolved-codes-for-free-armor-sets/) in Campaign Evolved.

Long-Awaited Co-Op Zombie Game Is Finally Arriving Next Month

Long-Awaited Co-Op Zombie Game Is Finally Arriving Next Month

Though No More Room In Hell 2(https://www.gamespot.com/games/no-more-room-in-hell-2/) has been playable via Steam and Epic's early-access programs for a while now, the 1.0 build is finally on the way, and it'll coincide with the game's launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. All of this arrives on August 11. The first-person zombie game is played on large, semi-open maps and built for teams of up to eight players. If you never played the original, think Left 4 Dead(https://www.gamespot.com/games/left-4-dead/), but slower and much harder. It's also less of a shooter than that genre titan, because making noise is sure to attract trouble you're better off avoiding with the use of the game's many melee weapons. Each round plays like a run with your chosen character, and you'll progress as you survive round after round--or you'll die mid-round (and permanently) and turn into a fast-moving zombie that chases down the team you left behind. The stakes are high. The game has seen its ups and downs so far on PC, as the team at Torn Banner (Chivalry 2) has tried to strike a balance in the game's difficulty while adding polish. This has resulted in only a "Mixed" rating from Steam users right now, but a lot of those issues have always seemed like growing pains to me, and hopefully these wrinkles are ironed out for the 1.0 release. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/NMRIH2-Zombie-Combat-–-3840x2160300dpi.png?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/NMRIH2-Subway-–-3840x2160300dpi.png?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/NMRIH2-Squad-–-3840x2160300dpi.png?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/NMRIH2-Hospital-–-3840x2160300dpi.png?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/NMRIH2-Extraction-–-3840x2160300dpi.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/NMRIH2-Dismemberment-–-3840x2160300dpi.jpg?w=636) For what it may be worth, I love zombie games as much as anyone, and I've had a lot of fun with this one. I've only not sunk many more hours into it yet because I've been waiting for this 1.0 version. Based on what I've played in the past, I already count No More Room In Hell 2 as one of the best zombie games(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/best-zombie-games-of-all-time/2900-4873/), and I'm hoping the 1.0 build further cements it in that conversation. New with this upcoming build is a risk-free solo mode, which doesn't apply the game's permadeath system you'll have to contend with otherwise, as well as a training ground so you can learn the game before you put your character on the line. There's also a new wave-based Survival mode that some players tried out during a free weekend preview earlier this year.  Several maps have been expanded, and character customization will be deeper than you're used to if you've played any of the game's earlier versions. No More Room In Hell 2 will feature cross-play for all systems, and the team has addressed "over 8,000 bugs" for the 1.0 launch. It'll go for $30 with preorders and "launch" period sale pricing on offer for those who jump in early. Crimson Desert Gets Cross-Save Support Today

Crimson Desert Gets Cross-Save Support Today

!Crimson Desert Pearl Abyss PlayStation PS5 Pro Comparison Xbox Series X/S PC Performance Quality Balanced FPS(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/03/20/e882be8a/crimsondesert.jpg.webp) A new update for Crimson Desert adds cross-save today. This means that if you own the RPG on multiple platforms, you can now transfer save data between those versions. Naturally, using cross-save requires players to own two or more versions of Crimson Desert on the following platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC via Steam or the Epic Games Store. You’ll need to have a Pearl Abyss ID for each owned copy of the game, and you’ll need to link these accounts to initiate cross-save. A new cross-save icon now appears in Crimson Desert’s in-game save data menu, which will begin the setup process as detailed in an FAQ(https://account.pearlabyss.com/en-US/Member/Signin?state=pGnPvbJ8lBzKAfodyZmQWSoMhAmSXSkXt7Q81zhfClcvJq8LWpMnFBcpX0gg6FBUGrGQAspQyepDoAz5IH2p+KQtdDrkgAxLq0d9t4RiH2l3Tb90KaiZ%2fy00n3tHUUU03GdbCYRI5uMJAsFl1ccfHrlaeSgx1KUrSVHL4ICGWUO7KnavPnITYx7YUMkjeZJhZhXeMhtjGIt7ZiHaC+ka7sVkhjTiLIEHTHcqbSBUDC1z7ihPUyKg185EU3GL9Mir7+VPGLDBB+7dRRDdjUUZ3elffMsNMAGUoHhmDIdrI1IY2Ok6WpelHJ7iOAxMOF5hQ2hJMsKV2pN9iSu8vOktMxAm5cL5hFsKDxShozaxfZE%3d&authPlatform=1&authAction=6&sessionTicket=&returnUrl=https%3a%2f%2faccount.pearlabyss.com%2fen-US%2fMember%2fSignin%2fEndAuthentication). Crimson Desert is also available on Mac, but developer Pearl Abyss states that this version will not receive cross-save support until a future update. The addition of cross-saves is one of many major overhauls Pearl Abyss has planned for Crimson Desert as part of its post-launch update roadmap. One of the biggest changes will be to the game’s often-criticized narrative. You can read more about all of the updates coming to the game here(https://gameinformer.com/2026/06/02/the-latest-crimson-desert-roadmap-promises-story-improvements-new-combat-content-and). Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Has The Best Launch The Series Has Seen In Years

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Has The Best Launch The Series Has Seen In Years

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced isn't just the best-reviewed game in the series(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced-delivers-the-series-best-reviews-since-2013/) in 13 years; it's also off to a flying start with more than 100,000 players(https://store.steampowered.com/charts/mostplayed) on Steam alone. That's one of the highest opening weeks for an Assassin's Creed game in several years, and the number doesn't include Black Flag Resynced's availability through other PC storefronts, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, either. One thing to note is that not every Assassin's Creed game has been available through Steam at launch, but Black Flag Resynced's performance can still be compared to recent releases. Assassin's Creed Odyssey peaked at 62,049 players during its launch week, and Assassin's Creed Shadows reached 64,825 players when it first hit the scene last year. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is something of an anomaly, as it wasn't available at launch(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ubisoft-is-back-on-steam-with-assassins-creed-valhalla-launching-december-6/1100-6509353/) through Steam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niSS6zePbYs&t=2s When Ubisoft did return to Steam(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ubisoft-games-could-be-returning-to-steam/1100-6508931/) after a gap of several years, it peaked at 15,679 players on launch day--two years after it first launched on PC and console--and it later surpassed that number(https://steamdb.info/app/2208920/charts/max) in January 2026 with 19,181 players. For Black Flag Resynced, those are some impressive launch week numbers--even if they do pale in comparison to the similarly themed pirate game Windrose, which reached more than 220,000 peak concurrent users(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pirate-game-windrose-sells-1-million-copies-passes-200000-concurrents-on-steam/1100-6539495/) on Steam during its launch week in April. While there's plenty to celebrate, several Black Flag Resynced developers at Ubisoft Barcelona(https://insider-gaming.com/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced-layoffs/) are also facing layoffs following the game's launch. Part of the cuts that Ubisoft initiated in June, around 51 developers will be impacted, while Black Flag Resynced is expected to be a big seller for Ubisoft during a lean year of releases from the company.
