THQ Nordic Showcase 2026: All The News, Trailers, And Reveals
Since the Not-E3 blitz of summer gaming showcases, things have been relatively quiet since then. Amidst that break, THQ Nordic dropped a new showcase full of trailers to show what the publisher has on the way from its various studios. While it wasn't focused on big-name games like the ones you'd find in dedicated Xbox and PlayStation showcases, THQ Nordic instead has titles in very specific niche genres and IP. https://youtu.be/ToLh5Ruefxk Several of them are already available via early access or are already out and have post-launch plans in place, so if you're a fan of games that scratch a very specific itch for interactive entertainment, then you'll want to check out the list below of all the announcements. Let's Sing 2027 and Let’s Sing ABBA !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/THQ-Nordic-showcase-2026-8.jpg?w=636) Revealed in the preshow, Let's Sing 2027 is shaping up to conquer the karaoke video game space. This year's installment features 35 songs from artists such as Ariana Grande and Chappell Roan, and you can join in on singing radio-friendly love songs with or without the original vocals. On top of that, an ABBA pack is also coming to the game on November 3, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Dancing Queen. It includes 32 tracks that your great-grandparents will appreciate, from Waterloo to Mamma Mia. Don't be surprised if they tell you to "gimme gimme gimme" the microphone, Fernando. Pinball FX !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/THQ-Nordic-showcase-2026-14.jpg?w=636) Another preshow video, Zen Studios showed off its collection of Pinball FX tables that it has assembled over the years. Reanimal: The Prisoner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M05D1Ynuxfg New DLC is on the way for Reanimal in the form of The Prisoner. You can grab it right now. Expeditions: Samurai https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ophpGhgKns Developer Campfire Cabal dropped a new trailer for Expeditions: Samurai, its upcoming tactical turn-based-combat game set in feudal Japan. Way of the Hunter 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0hkJ6naYQ4 Oh deer, local wildlife has no idea what's in store for it when Way of the Hunter 2 launches on September 29 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two CEO Says Streaming Could Soon Make Expensive Consoles Matter Less
A base PS5 or Xbox Series X|S console costs far more today(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/rising-costs-have-forced-these-gamers-to-make-tough-decisions/) than it did almost six years ago(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-xbox-and-switch-2-heres-how-their-prices-have-changed-since-launch/), but despite that, GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) publisher Take-Two Interactive doesn't believe that the more-expensive gaming hardware will slow down its business or sales of the upcoming game. Speaking to investors as part of a briefing on its recent financial quarter, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did mention that lower-priced gaming hardware would still be preferable, but the current state of the technology could have a surprise silver lining. "The rising cost of hardware is not a good thing. I don't think it will slow us down any because, you know, we're delivering, we believe we're delivering experiences that people want," Zelnick said. "However, a lower price point for hardware would be a good thing because there'd be more hardware in people's hands. Probably the most relevant thing is the world continues to move to open systems, and that will continue." Zelnick added that PC used to make up a fraction of sales 20 years ago--around 2%--but in the years since then, the platform accounts for up to 50% of sales. The CEO believes the gap will only continue to grow, and cloud-streaming could also play a big role in bringing more games to more people--and that future isn't too far away, Zelnick believes. "If you believe in streaming, and to be clear, we really do, and I'm happy to put a timeline on it. I think we'll be in commercial streaming mode within three years, and by commercial, I mean low latency. That can 10x the effective installed base. Now, it doesn't mean we're going to 10x our revenue--and we wouldn't project that we would--but because obviously your avid consumers already had access to video game machines. But I do think it creates great opportunity for titles that are broadly desirable, even outside of core markets." While the idea of cloud-streaming games isn't new--RIP, Google Stadia--the technology behind it has continued to improve over the years, with Microsoft making big strides in this space. As for consoles, if you haven't bought one yet for highly anticipated games like GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/take-two-defends-gta-6s-80-price-calls-it-phenomenal-value/), you might not want to delay that decision for too much longer. Prices look set to increase(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-may-have-another-price-hike-up-its-sleeve-in-2027/) again next year, while PC gamers are facing another tough year as the biggest manufacturers of RAM chips have reportedly sold out all their production(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/all-of-2027s-ram-could-already-be-gone-as-major-manufacturers-sell-out/) for 2027. GTA 6 Has Not Been Delayed, Still On Track For Its November Launch
GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) is still on track to launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, Take-Two Interactive has confirmed. As part of the publisher's quarterly briefing, Take-Two provided updates on several of its projects, including Rockstar Games' long-simmering open-world game--and the rosy financial outlook that the company is expecting from its launch. "Our excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels," Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said during a Take-Two earnings call on August 7. "With these positive trends and excitement around the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8 billion to $8.2 billion." Whenever the results of a new Take-Two financial quarter are made public, there's always some fear that a GTA 6 delay will be announced. Following its first delay to May 2026(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-delayed-to-2026/1100-6531282/) and another reshuffling of its launch date(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-delayed-to-november-2026/1100-6536012/) to November, these moves aren't unusual given Rockstar's history(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-did-rockstar-delay-gta-6/1100-6536423/) of games missing their originally scheduled launch dates. Recently, a former Rockstar Games employee said that he wouldn't be surprised if the game was delayed again(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/another-gta-6-delay-would-not-be-surprising-former-rockstar-dev-says/) by as much as six months. So far, it looks like it's full steam ahead, and after more than a year without a new look at the game, fans can tune in on August 27 to get an extended look at GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-extended-look-coming-august-27-on-netflix/) through Netflix. The streaming giant will be hosting the new content exclusively for several hours, and as you'd expect, a lot of people aren't happy(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-being-paywalled-behind-netflix-is-upsetting-a-lot-of-people-but-its-a-sign-of-the-times/) with the next GTA 6 trailer being behind a subscription paywall. Xbox Version Of PlayStation Platinum Trophy Teased For Later This Year
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has teased that an Xbox version of PlayStation's Platinum(https://playstation.fandom.com/wiki/Trophies) trophy system could be coming to Xbox, and potentially soon. Replying to a social media user who asked when Xbox might get an "equivalent" to Platinum for Xbox achievements, Sharma said, "Team is working on something for later this year!" https://twitter.com/ashashar/status/2085043552837636502 Platinum trophies are awarded when players unlock all the other trophies. It's a badge of honor, of sorts, for some people. There is no equivalent on Xbox currently for when people unlock all achievements. While Xbox fans wait, the newest Xbox update is rolling out now(https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/08/05/xbox-insiders-october-2026-console-features/) with new improvements and features for the achievement system. Users can now sort games by name, completion percentage, Gamerscore earned, and number of achievements unlocked. The update is out now for Xbox Insiders and will be available to everyone else later. Sharma took over as Xbox CEO earlier this year and one of her first big moves was to "reset" the Xbox business to help it return to profitability and growth. This has involved mass layoffs, game cancellations, and studio divestitures(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-after-the-layoffs-studios-left-and-what-theyre-making/).

Black Ops 1 And 2 Ports Sold 11 Million Copies Combined On PlayStation, Benefitting Both Xbox And Sony
The recently released ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 for PlayStation sold more than 11 million combined copies, generating nearly half a billion dollars, according to industry analyst Rhys Elliott(https://x.com/superhys/status/2084775534874231037?s=46). The games, which were developed by Iron Galaxy, were shadow-dropped on PS4 and PS5 on July 9, featuring campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies. The games were not remakes with improved graphics or new features, but instead "straight 1080p ports," as Elliott put it. Technical experts found that the ports feature barely any noticeable improvements at all(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-new-playstation-black-ops-ports-feel-like-the-bare-minimum/), and that was the whole point for many. Fans wanted the OG experience, made available on modern systems. According to Elliott, the $40 games sold so exceptionally well due to massive pent-up demand (the games are available to PS Plus subscribers for $20 until August 6). Previously, the only way to play the games on PlayStation was to find an old PS3 and go from there since they were never made available via backwards compatibility on PS4 or PS5. "As per our estimates, Black Ops 2 sold 8.2M copies on PlayStation (93% on PS5, 7% on PS4) for about $325M, while Black Ops 1 sold 3.0M (94% via PS5) for $110M. Combined, that’s $435M on PlayStation in under a month," Elliott said. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/blackops-1.webp) The Black Ops ports were hugely popular. Microsoft and Activision are the big winners here, and so is Sony--its 30% cut works out to about $130 million "for doing basically nothing" but hosting them, Elliott said. "Basically zero marketing or ongoing development costs are eating into that check. That single month of cataloge CoD sales on a rival platform effectively funds a massive slice of Xbox’s quarterly first-party operational overhead," Elliott explained. "And the combined $435M is already nearly as much as Forza Horizon 6 has made via base game sales all year." Elliott described the move to release the Black Ops ports as a "low effort, low risk, high reward catalogue mining." Activision also released $30 DLC bundles for both games, featuring many multiplayer maps. He added that the success of the Black Ops ports further demonstrates that Microsoft is not going to make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox--there is simply too much money to be made by having Call of Duty on PlayStation. Elliott went on to say that the success of the ports also demonstrates that a "proper" reboot of Black Ops "would do absolute gangbusters." The next new Call of Duty game is this October's Modern Warfare 4. A multiplayer beta for the game goes live later this month(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-beta-dates-revealed-heres-how-to-get-in/).
