Update: Xbox Online Services Fully Restored After Hours-Long Outage
!Microsoft Gaming Xbox Series X/S CEO Asha Sharma Layoffs(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/11/b14c2ec5/Xbox%20New%20Logo.jpg.webp) Update, 7/27/26, 7:24 p.m.: After suffering an outage that began late yesterday evening, several Xbox online services have been restored according to the Xbox Status page(https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status). The original story continues below... Original Story, 7/27/26, 3:03 p.m.: Xbox is currently suffering a major service outage, days after PlayStation was hit with a similar issue(https://gameinformer.com/psa/2026/07/24/update-the-majority-of-playstation-network-services-are-back-online). Services such as booting up digital games, logging into your account, and browsing the Xbox Store are said to be affected. The service was first reported last night, July 26, at 11:10 p.m. ET. As of publishing, Xbox is still working to resolve these problems, according to the Xbox status page(https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live-status), which was last updated at 2:48 p.m. ET. Four features are affected across Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and backwards compatibility. We've listed them below along with the official descriptions of their issues. Account & Profile: You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won't be available. Store & Subscriptions: You might not see a game you're looking for in the Store right now. Games & Gaming: You may have problems playing your digital games right now. Apps & Mobile: You may have problems launching apps. These outages may not affect every person –or every game, for that matter – equally; to test the outage for this story, I logged into my Xbox account on my Series X and booted up several games, both owned and downloaded from Game Pass, without problem. Still, this situation is worth keeping an eye on if you’re planning to jump into your Xbox over the next couple of hours.

🖥 PC, Multi-platformMeccha Chameleon Players Are Getting Malware From User-Made Maps
Meccha Chameleon(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/in-an-era-of-ai-slop-meccha-chameleon-embraces-human-crafted-chaos/)--a multiplayer prop-hunt game that's been blowing up on Steam lately--seems to have hit its first real road bump since it launched in early June. As pointed out by a player who goes by Feint, some of the game's player-made maps are basically just Trojan horses containing malware. One of Feint's friends had mentioned briefly seeing a command prompt appear while they were downloading the map. Curious, Feint dug into the files and concluded that the map known as Lazer Tag Zero contained a "malware dropper." The map was quickly pulled from Meccha Chameleon's Steam Workshop page after Feint published their findings(https://medium.com/@FeintBE/workshop-map-for-meccha-chameleon-is-a-malware-dropper-full-breakdown-d1ac29565265) in a Medium article. But the chaos was just beginning. Other malware-filled maps started appearing, and then the game's official Discord server was hacked. "Security was completely breached, the server creator's account was hijacked, and all admins were banned, so we can't take action from our side," Meccha Chameleon creator Lemorion1224 shared in an auto-translated X post(https://x.com/lemorion1224/status/2081056013424460118) over the weekend. The news was also shared via an update on the game's Steam page(https://steamcommunity.com/app/4704690/eventcomments/587306992930251352?snr=1210892107), clarifying that the game itself wasn't a security risk, and could still be played safely as long as user-made maps weren't used. Still, things were looking rough--the hackers even put up a fake listing for a Meta Quest-compatible version of the game, which doesn't exist. "Currently, a product called 'Meccha Chameleon VR' is available for preorder on the Meta Quest store, but we have not granted any production permission for it," Lemorion1224 explained(https://x.com/lemorion1224/status/2081651259808038953?s=20) in an X post shared early this morning. "We are currently submitting a request for removal, so please refrain from purchasing it. We will not handle any monetary issues arising from counterfeit products." But after a weekend of abject chaos, it seems things are finally stabilizing. A few hours after the announcement about the fake Meta Quest product listing, Lemorion1224 revealed that a new update is now live for the game. https://twitter.com/lemorion1224/status/2081710107214426595 Mini-update 3.3.1 replaces the Discord link on the game's title screen with a link to the correct server (which is now back in the possession of Mecca Chameleon creators Lemorion1224 and Haganiero), fixes a physical collision issue, and perhaps most importantly, strengthens virus protection, though it's not clear if the issue with player-made map malware has been fully resolved for good. For now, the safest bet is probably sticking to the game's default maps.
