The Video Games And More You Should Play This Weekend – July 31, 2026

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/31/fe424a6b/ssa16375e51ba2449b1deae9f56b564625087ef035.1920x1080.jpg.webp) Welcome to the weekend! It's a good one for going to the theatres with a new Spider-Man movie that I liked (see my full spoiler-free review here(https://bsky.app/profile/kylehilliard.com/post/3mrtidogxjk27)) and a new Christopher Nolan movie that I liked even more and am ready to probably go see it again before I am never able to watch it on a gigantic screen ever again. I'm talking about The Odyssey if that wasn't clear. But this is a video game website! We have some weekend video game recommendin' below, but before then here, here are some big stories from the week. - Here’s How The Late Japanese Actor Toshirō Mifune Became The Face Of Musashi In Onimusha: Way Of The Sword(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-feature/2026/07/30/heres-how-the-late-japanese-actor-toshiro-mifune-became-the-face-of) - Everything D&D Announced At Gen Con, Including A Huge World of Warcraft Collab, Star Wars Crossover, And The New Psion Class(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/30/everything-dd-announced-at-gen-con-including-a-huge-world-of-warcraft-collab-star-wars) - Top 10 RPGs To Play Right Now(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/31/top-10-rpgs-to-play-right-now) - Super Mario Sunshine Joins Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Library Next Month(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/31/super-mario-sunshine-joins-nintendo-switch-online-gamecube-library-next-month) - There Are No Minigames In Onimusha: Way Of The Sword, But It Sounds Like The Phantom Realm Is Back(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/07/28/there-are-no-minigames-in-onimusha-way-of-the-sword-but-it-sounds) - Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Update Add Brand New Day And Marvel Tōkon Suits Today(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/28/marvels-spider-man-2-update-add-brand-new-day-and-marvel-tokon-suits-today) !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/07/31/47645699/ss6450ac4fc43b1082e705ad7c60ce9ac22ae65615.1920x1080.jpg.webp) Truck-kun Is Supporting Me From Another World?! Kyle Hilliard If you are even casually familiar with anime broadly, then you know about isekai, which is a genre where a typically contemporary person gets transported to an alternate, typically magical world. The actual getting transported part doesn't matter as the bulk of the story is about coming to terms with being in a fantasy setting and all that entails technically and emotionally. The recurring, noncommittal hand-wave explanation for why a person ends up in a new world, for some inexplicable reason, is usually related to getting hit by a delivery truck. There are probably research papers about why this is a recurring story trope that can explain the exact moment its repetition became a parody, but I am not familiar with why, and similar to the plot reason for why someone gets isekai-ed (to use it as a verb), it really doesn't matter. What does matter is the well-titled video game, Truck-kun is Supporting me From Another World?!, is out this week, and in it you play as the rarely, if ever, characterized truck driver who isekais a young woman into another world right before she is set to get a big raise. She can still communicate with you, though (and is mad) and tasks you with isekai-ing as many people as possible with your truck to help her in the alternate world and eventually get her home. It's a great premise ripe for jokes, and the gameplay's closest comparison is Crazy Taxi. You have a short period of time to drive around a small city, deliver packages, and hit as many people with your truck as possible. It's arcade-y, bombastic, and funny. I wish it ran a little better (I am playing it on Steam Machine, so maybe it just needs a few performance updates to sync with Valve's new platform), but I am finding the whole experience pretty dang charming. The game is also available on Xbox. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/07/31/fe424a6b/ssa16375e51ba2449b1deae9f56b564625087ef035.1920x1080.jpg.webp) Scarlet Deer Inn Marcus Stewart This surprising adventure game caught my eye for the same reason it likely will yours: its embroidered art direction. As in, each frame of the game’s characters was literally stitched into fabric and animated, lending Scarlet Deer Inn a unique (and painstakingly created) aesthetic. As Elise, you’re the widowed owner of a medieval village inn, but your two young children go missing. Her search uncovers a shocking secret I won’t spoil, but it tips the game’s surprisingly dark hand. While exploring the town can be confusing and tedious, and the platforming and combat are simple at best, getting to the bottom of what terror befell Elise’s children has me hooked. Here’s hoping the story can stick – or, better yet, stitch – the landing. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/07/31/a91905e3/towntocity.jpg.webp) Town To City Matt Miller I'm sad to say I missed out on the 1.0 launch of Town to City a few weeks back, but it's an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a cozy town-development simulation. Players take on the role of the mayor of a small burgeoning town in the countryside, helping to gradually build it from hamlet to teeming (but still beautiful) metropolis. More than many simulation games within the genre, Town to City focuses on crafting beautiful spaces filled with flowers and trees, keeping your citizens happy by responding to their requests, and more broadly, a low-stress experience of gradual and satisfying growth. The game features a particularly attractive voxel art style, and a winsome, welcoming original game soundtrack that feels like it might be at home in a gentle romantic comedy set in the French countryside. It's a lovely, relaxing gaming experience that you can take at your own pace – the perfect panacea if you're coming off some frantic or tense action or shooter game. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/07/31/df4ae21f/junkart1.jpg.webp) Tabletop Pick – Junk Art Revolution Matt Miller This revision and update of one of my favorite dexterity games is a wonderful way to bring the family together, with simple rules but tons of replayability. Junk Art Revolution challenges players to stack and arrange wooden pieces that come in a variety of unusual shapes, creating artistic displays that target specific objectives for that session. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/31/40256c16/junkart2.jpg.webp) You might build for height, or in a different game mode, work on a shared sculpture with the other players. The variety of play and the tactile nature of the colorful pieces is the winning element here – not some incredible strategic depth (of which there is little). Junk Art Revolution is a triumph of delivering tabletop fun to virtually any player who sits down to give it a try, and it's always nice to have a few titles like that in your board game collection.

If You Were Excited About Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, Here’s An AI-Slop Music Video To Fix That🎮 Multi-platform

If You Were Excited About Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, Here’s An AI-Slop Music Video To Fix That

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain(https://www.gamespot.com/games/stellar-blade-blood-rain/) is being promoted with an AI-slop music video created by developer Shift Up, and it's all about as soulless as you might expect. The video(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ncuote9ADo), which looks to be completely AI generated, features protagonist Evie singing an "original" song titled "Wanna be in Love" as she explores the dystopian cyberpunk city seen in the game's official announcement trailer(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/stellar-blade-follow-up-blood-rain-announced-trailer-has-some-eye-opening-moments/) that debuted as part of Summer Games Fest. At one point while wandering the city, Evie picks up a KPop Demon Hunters keychain. Towards the end of the video, there is "behind the scenes footage" of Shift Up developers "on set" with Evie, giving her direction, doing her makeup, and high-fiving members of the team. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ncuote9ADo An entirely AI-generated video serving as the first major piece of marketing for the Stellar Blade sequel following its reveal is certainly a choice, though it's more than a little concerning Shift Up somehow decided this was a good idea. It is, however, not all that surprising. Shift Up CEO and Stellar Blade director Hyung-tae Kim earlier this year said (as translated by Automaton(https://automaton-media.com/en/news/stellar-blade-director-says-using-ai-will-be-essential-for-competing-with-overwhelming-manpower-of-china-and-us-developers/)) during a South Korean "Economic Growth Strategy" briefing he believed AI to be an "essential tool for going up against large competitors like China on a global level." He also said AI will not result in people losing their jobs, even though it will enable "one person" to perform the "work of 100 people." South Korea as a whole is doubling down on AI, with the country set to invest nearly $14 billion(https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-07-30/korea-plans-14-billion-for-wealth-fund-s-ai-bets-after-rout) in AI and related infrastructure. The Stellar Blade franchise is no stranger to controversy, ranging from having to patch out unintentional racial slurs(https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-says-racist-phrase-in-stellar-blade-was-unintentional-will-be-patched-out) to the culture war over the appearance of main character Eve and her revealing outfits in the first game. Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is proving to be no exception, with some criticizing the sexualization of Evie, who appears more childlike in appearance, even as Shift Up promises "more appealing" outfits. In an interview with IGN(https://www.ign.com/articles/shift-up-ceo-explains-design-of-stellar-blade-blood-rains-new-main-character), Kim was asked whether he was worried about using a younger-looking character for Blood Rain, and how that may be perceived by players. He said Evie is indeed younger and smaller in size than Eve, but largely dodged the question. "If you actually play the game, you will not think that," Kim said. Stellar Blade: Blood Rain does not yet have a release date. However, the original Stellar Blade(https://www.gamespot.com/games/stellar-blade/) is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

World Of Warcraft Is Coming To D&D, And Will Let You Grind Renown Just Like The MMO🎮 Multi-platform

World Of Warcraft Is Coming To D&D, And Will Let You Grind Renown Just Like The MMO

World of Warcraft(https://www.gamespot.com/games/world-of-warcraft/) is getting the Dungeons & Dragons treatment, with the iconic tabletop roleplaying game set to translate developer Blizzard's popular MMORPG into a proper pencil-and paper-experience this November. D&D: World of Warcraft is bringing a lot to the table, with everything a dungeon master might potentially need to create an Azeroth campaign. For starters, all 13 WoW classes will be playable, with six additional subclasses, three modified ones, and over 40 class specializations to choose from. The expansion additionally adds 11 WoW races (or species, as they are called in D&D), including tauren, draenei, forsaken, and trolls, along with WoW-specific rules for existing D&D races like humans, dwarves, goblins, orcs, and elves. "From Azeroth's ancient races to newcomers from distant realms, these species bring a wide range of histories, cultures, and perspectives to your adventures," Blizzard writes in its announcement(https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/news/24293053). "Your choice of species can even grant a starting Renown Score with one of Azeroth's factions--so whether you ride out 'For the Horde! or 'For the Alliance!', your allegiance is baked into your origin." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yMOZlYqsnY Blizzard's MMO is filled with iconic spells, items, and enemies, and D&D: World of Warcraft includes those as well. There will be over 60 new spells added as part of the expansion, as well 25 new magic items that include mounts and companion creatures. D&D's spin on WoW even attempts to replicate some of the gameplay and systems longtime players of the MMO are all too familiar with. The expansion adds 10 WoW professions to choose from, allowing players to spend their downtime crafting items or improving their gear. There are even 25 different factions that players can grind out Renown with. Just like in WoW proper, increasing Renown with a faction will grant perks and rewards for those who the climb ranks. On the monster front, 50 new monsters are being added as part of the setting alongside 30 dungeon bosses. Seven of WoW's most iconic dungeons will be playable, including the Deadmines, Onyxia's Lair, and the Scarlet Monastery. An optional Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack will also be available--one that will carry players level 16-20 from the lower spire of the citadel to the Frozen Throne and a confrontation with the Lich King himself. For WoW players who aren't keen on sitting down at the table, there are still a few reasons to take notice. Preordering certain editions, including the D&D: World of Warcraft Ultimate Bundle or Collector's Edition, unlocks D&D-themed items in WoW, including a Black Dragon mount, Gazer pet, Mimic chest toy, and Mimic chest housing decor. The cheapest option for snagging the in-game items according to the official D&D Beyond website appears to be by preordering(https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/BBCollectionWoW/6051000?icidmedium=organic&icidsource=brandsite&icidcampaign=2026worldofwarcraft&icidcontent=2026hype&pid=DB6051000) the $80 physical and digital combo edition. D&D: World of Warcraft will release November 17, with early access beginning November 3. In other WoW news, Blizzard will be adding the viral Jimothy(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/jimothy-the-viral-raccoon-is-becoming-an-earnable-wow-pet/) to the MMORPG in the game's next update, while a Blizzard employee was recently fired(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/blizzard-employee-out-of-a-job-after-allegedly-helping-friends-cheat-in-wow/) for allegedly helping a group of players cheat in a Mythic+ dungeon.
