Black Ops 1 And 2 Are Coming To PS4 And PS5

While the older Call of Duty games have remained on Xbox through the console generations, PlayStation owners haven't seen the first two Black Ops games available on their hardware since the PlayStation 3 era. That's going to change this summer as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 make their modern debut on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Black Ops ports were rumored(https://www.ign.com/articles/call-of-duty-black-ops-1-and-2-ports-have-apparently-leaked) earlier this month, but they've now been confirmed by developer Treyarch(https://x.com/alexhtmll/status/2067332228909048101) for a July release via social media. Per the announcement, the ports were handled by Iron Galaxy. However, these are not remasters of the original games. In other words, don't expect dramatic visual upgrades. https://twitter.com/Treyarch/status/2067321420032721282 Black Ops 1 was released in 2010 and it was followed by Black Ops 2 in 2012. Since then, Black Ops has been one of the most popular mini-franchises within the Call of Duty brand. There were even two games--Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7--released back to back(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/call-of-duty-dev-explains-how-were-getting-new-black-ops-games-in-consecutive-years/1100-6534117/) in 2024 and 2025. For this year's Call of Duty title, the Black Ops franchise is taking a break in favor of a new installment in the Modern Warfare games. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/preorder-call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-vault-edition-and-save-10/) is slated to hit Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC on October 23. However, there is an early-access option(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-brings-back-campaign-early-access-heres-how-to-get-it/) for preorders and pre-purchases for the MW4 standard digital edition or the Vault edition. Modern Warfare 4 is also adding a GTA-like wanted system(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-4-dmz-adds-gta-like-wanted-system/) to its DMZ.

Rockstar Announces Free PS5 And Xbox Series X/S Upgrade For Grand Theft Auto V

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/17/f3e859fe/gta-v-michael-chase.jpg.webp) As the entire gaming world waits with bated breath for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI(https://gameinformer.com/news/2023/12/04/grand-theft-auto-vi-revealed-with-first-official-trailer-alongside-2025-release), Rockstar Games has announced a surprise treat for those still playing the last-gen versions of the previous entry, Grand Theft Auto V. Starting tomorrow, June 18, owners of any PlayStation 4 version of Grand Theft Auto V or the digital Xbox One version will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions for free. The news was announced via a Rockstar Newswire(https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/517k8ak75ao327/the-next-big-score) blog, and it coincides with an upcoming update for GTA Online called The Kortz Center Heist, a big new mission launching in July. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of GTA V were first released on March 15, 2022, and originally had no free upgrade path. Instead, the current-gen versions were priced at $39.99 (and included GTA Online). These upgraded versions boast improved resolutions (up to 4K), HDR, ray tracing, improved textures and draw distances, and up to 60 frames per second gameplay. The PS5 version also features 3D audio and DualSense haptic feedback. Story progress from the PS4/Xbox One versions can also be transferred to the current editions. PC players can experience the same improvements by upgrading from the Legacy to the Enhanced edition for free. GTA+ members can also play GTA V’s story mode as part of the GTA+ Games Library. As we march towards the November 19 release of Grand Theft Auto VI, it seems Rockstar wants players to revisit GTA V or play it for the first time in the best way possible. This may not be a new update on GTA VI, but you can remind yourself of what’s in store for that game by watching its latest trailer(https://gameinformer.com/2025/05/06/rockstar-just-unveiled-the-second-grand-theft-auto-vi-trailer) from May 2025.

GTA 5 For PS5 And Xbox Series X|S Will Be Free For Last-Gen Owners This Week

Ahead of GTA 6's release in November, Rockstar Games has announced that anyone who owns a digital copy of GTA 5 for PS4 or Xbox One will get a free upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version. The native versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S normally cost $40. They include better graphics and faster loading times, among other things. This starts on June 18, Rockstar said. The free upgrade offer is coming ahead of the release of GTA Online's next big update, The Kortz Center Heist, which releases in July. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Screenshot-2026-06-17-at-11.02.48-AM.png?w=1024) The Kortz Center. The Kortz Center Heist is a multi-stage heist where players will break into The Kortz Center(https://gta.fandom.com/wiki/KortzCenter) and steal works of art. "Now the time has come to raid this prestigious gallery’s esteemed collection for personal gain," Rockstar said. That's all Rockstar had to say about the upcoming expansion, but more information will be announced in the weeks ahead. GTA 5 and GTA Online have been enormously successful, with GTA 5 passing 230 million copies sold(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/top-10-best-selling-video-games-of-all-time/2900-4814/) and GTA Online staying strong with its ongoing updates. GTA 6 releases on November 19, and Take-Two's top boss recently re-committed to that date and explained why the game is taking so long(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-release-date-confirmed-again-by-ceo-who-also-explains-why-its-taking-so-long/).

Weeks After Launching A Great Game On Game Pass, Dev Lays Off Its Staff

Late last month, Kwalee Labs launched its first-person horror shooter Luna Abyss(https://www.gamespot.com/games/luna-abyss/) on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. But not even a day-one Game Pass release was apparently enough to save the jobs of the team that made Luna Abyss. Kwalee Labs CEO and production director Hollie Emery announced on her LinkedIn page(https://www.linkedin.com/posts/hollie-emery-074a625bhey-folks-i-have-some-sad-news-from-the-share-7472658276480946177-QHk2/) that she and the other eight members of Luna Abyss's development team were laid off earlier this week for undisclosed reasons. "Unfortunately as of yesterday, the entire team has been made redundant; a decision that was completely outside of our control," wrote Emery. "As a result, the entire team are available for work as of today." Emery also stated that she and the rest of her team were "enamoured by the love and support it received both by our industry and critically by journalists and media. Whilst we faced many challenges along the way, it has been the highlight of our careers--and we are incredibly proud that it has finally seen the light of day." According GameSpot's sister site Metacritic(https://www.metacritic.com/game/luna-abyss/), Luna Abyss had an 81% score and was largely received well by critics. While the title's Game Pass numbers aren't available, its peak concurrent players on Steam(https://steamdb.info/app/1933000/charts/) was 18,597 near launch. However, its most recent 24-hour peak was only 310 players, which marks a dramatic drop-off. Luna Abyss puts players in control of Fawkes, a woman who has been imprisoned on a moon called Luna and tasked to excavate and explore the deep passages beneath the surface while monitored by her A.I. prison guard, Aylin. As Fawkes uncovers the secrets of Luna, she's forced to fight for her life against cosmic horrors that defy description. Presumably Luna Abyss will remain available on its current platforms. The layoffs of Kwalee Labs' developers comes at a time when even prominent first-party studios at Xbox are currently negotiating with Microsoft(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/double-fine-ninja-theory-and-more-reportedly-trying-to-spin-off-from-xbox-game-studios/) to avoid being shut down. The final fate of those studios is currently unclear.

PS5 Pro Is Likely The Best Place To Play Halo: Campaign Evolved

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/1ff4a57e/halo06.jpg.webp) One of the major headlines coming off the reveal of Halo: Campaign Evolved was that, for the first time ever, Master Chief and the Halo franchise are coming to PlayStation(https://www.gameinformer.com/2025/10/24/halo-campaign-evolved-coming-to-ps5-xbox-and-pc-remakes-halo-1s-story-with-new-content). While that was enough to garner attention for the 25th-anniversary project, when I was at Halo Studios in May for our current issue's cover story(https://gameinformer.com/cover-reveal/2026/06/16/cover-reveal-halo-campaign-evolved), we got on the topic of what PlayStation fans can expect when Halo: Campaign Evolved finally arrives on Sony's platform in July. “Halo has traditionally been a one-console franchise all the way back to its origins,” game director Greg Hermann told us in October. “We’ve seen in the past few years with Master Chief Collection or Infinite that we’ve expanded onto PC, and then really started to understand what it meant for us to do cross-platform development, and then what crossplay meant in some of these circumstances. Moving onto PlayStation was just a natural evolution of that. We were building on a lot of foundation work that Unreal Engine provides for us, but it really wasn’t too foreign to us to add another platform and make sure we budgeted across development timelines, ensuring that everybody gets a premium experience for their device.” With that mentality, loyal PlayStation players will finally have the chance to experience the foundational shooter through this remake, complete with crossplay and cross-progression, in case they want to play the remake's four-player co-op with some of their friends over on the Xbox side of the fence. However, it may feel like sacrilege to suggest that a PlayStation console might be the best place to play a Halo game, but after going over the PS5 Pro enhancements, it sure sounds like PS5 Pro will be the best place to play Halo: Campaign Evolved. The PS5 Pro edition of Halo: Campaign Evolved uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, SSD optimization, faster loading, 3D audio, and DualSense-exclusive features, leading me to believe that even Microsoft's Xbox Series X will have a hard time keeping up with the experience on PS5 Pro. !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/08/9fe125e1/halo6.jpg.webp) When I ask Halo Studios, they decline to directly say that PlayStation 5 Pro is the best place to play Halo: Campaign Evolved, but it seems relatively clear. However, with the most recent Xbox Showcase, the platform holder is poised to roll back its recent stance on bringing some of its franchises to other platforms(https://gameinformer.com/2026/06/11/xbox-doubles-down-on-gears-of-war-e-day-exclusivity-saying-it-was-never-discussed-for), beginning with Gears of War: E-Day(https://www.gameinformer.com/xbox-games-showcase/2026/06/07/gears-of-war-e-day-launches-as-a-console-exclusive-on-xbox-series-xs) and Clockwork Revolution(https://www.gameinformer.com/xbox-games-showcase/2026/06/07/clockwork-revolution-coming-in-2027-as-xbox-console-exclusive). As Xbox's flagship franchise since its inception, it would be unsurprising to see future Halo games join those titles, but that remains to be seen. For now, Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on July 28. To learn more about Halo: Campaign Evolved, subscribers can check out our cover story(https://gameinformer.com/feature/2026/06/16/the-next-evolution). GTA 5 Joins A Subscription Ahead Of GTA 6 Launch🎮 PlayStation, Xbox, Multi-platform

GTA 5 Joins A Subscription Ahead Of GTA 6 Launch

Ahead of GTA 6's release this November, GTA 5 is now available on a subscription service, and it's Rockstar's own GTA+. The game's single-player campaign is now included with the GTA+ games library, while GTA+ members on PC can now get GTA Online through the games library. Available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, GTA+ costs $8/month and includes access to a library of games, as well as a variety of perks. Some of the other games included in the library are Bully, L.A. Noire, and Red Dead Redemption. Games don't always stay forever, though. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/GTAOnline.jpg?w=1024) A scene from GTA Online. As for the perks, GTA+ subscribers get an allotment of $GTA 500,000 every month, access to "The Vinewood Club" in GTA Online, a free car each month, and other member benefits that change each month. GTA 5 has been available on Game Pass and PlayStation Plus for periods of time over the years, but it's no longer part of either library. The game keeps selling, too, as it's now passed 230 million units sold(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/top-10-best-selling-video-games-of-all-time/2900-4814/). GTA 6 arrives on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but one of the many unanswered questions about the game is what the multiplayer may look like, or how GTA+ may factor in. Rockstar Games will kick off the marketing efforts for GTA 6 this summer, so it may not be much longer until we finally see and learn more about the game.
