Final Fantasy 14 Is Coming To Switch 2, But With An Annoying Caveat

Although Final Fantasy XIV's time on the PlayStation 4 might soon be coming to an end(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ffxivs-end-on-ps4-is-approaching-so-you-have-two-years-to-save-for-a-ps5/1100-6539618/), the critically acclaimed MMO RPG will soon show up on a new console: the Nintendo Switch 2. But while the prospect of grinding through raids and dungeons from the comfort of your own bed is certainly enticing, it turns out that this port comes with a strange caveat. Shortly after Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu announced Final Fantasy XIV would be coming to Switch 2 during the game's North American Fan Festival, Kiryu launched into an explanation of how subscriptions will work on the console. Whereas PC, Xbox, and PlayStation will all work with a standard Final Fantasy XIV subscription, the Nintendo Switch 2 requires players have a distinct subscription for just that console. Thankfully, players will not need a Switch Online subscription to play--though Kiryu did add that Final Fantasy XIV subscribers can get one for 50% less. Additionally, those with an active PC, Xbox, and PlayStation subscription will get 50% off a Switch 2 subscription. "After discussions with Nintendo, it was decided that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV would require a separate subscription," Final Fantasy XIV director Naoki Yoshida added. "This was decided after many months of discussions with Nintendo and we understand this is different to how we've done things before." Final Fantasy XIV Is Coming To Nintendo Switch 2, But There's A Terrible And Expensive Catch

!Final Fantasy XIV Nintendo Switch 2 Separate Subs Expensive Terrible (https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/04/24/78192a49/finalfantasyxivevercold3.jpg.webp) Square Enix has revealed that its long-running MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV(https://gameinformer.com/product/final-fantasy-xiv) will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this August – yay! But, there's a catch: to play it on Switch 2, you will need to buy a separate subscription even if you already have one to play the game on other platforms. Yes, playing FFXIV on Switch 2 plus other platforms like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC will require paying two separate subscriptions. Despite the subscription shenanigans, your Switch 2 account will feature cross-progression with your other accounts. Plus, Square Enix and Nintendo say you will not need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play FFXIV on the Switch 2. This announcement was made during today's Final Fantasy XIV: Fan Fest opening ceremony keynote, where Square Enix also unveiled Evercold, the latest expansion for the game, launching in January 2027(https://gameinformer.com/2026/04/24/final-fantasy-14-evercold-expansion-revealed-coming-january-2027). Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Isn't Coming To Switch 2 (For Now)🎮 PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Multi-platform

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Isn't Coming To Switch 2 (For Now)

After several months of leaks and rumors, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced(https://www.gamespot.com/games/assassins-creed-black-flag-resynced/) was finally shown off officially this week, and it's sailing onto PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S in July. One platform that's absent from the list? Nintendo's Switch 2 console, which has been home to several of Ubisoft's biggest ports recently. The FAQ for Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced makes no mention of a Switch 2 release, mentioning only PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. That doesn't rule out a Switch 2 release entirely, as the Nintendo system should be capable of playing the game. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced is built on the same Anvil Engine technology as last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows--one of Ubisoft's best-looking games--and it was later ported to Switch 2 consoles. We also got a Switch 2 version of Star Wars Outlaws, another visually impressive title from the Ubisoft library. Both games are massive open-world experiences--especially Assassin's Creed Shadows with its replica of feudal Japan--and they ran surprisingly well on Switch 2 once they received post-launch patches. In their current form, both games offer a mostly stable level of performance, whether in TV or Docked mode. Sales of gaming hardware in the US during March 2026 rose by 69% compared to March 2025, reaching $500 million. Circana said the Switch 2 "drove the overall gain" for March 2026, with spending on PlayStation 5 increasing by 3% compared to March 2025. The report had no data about Xbox.
