EA Sports UFC 6 Leads Game Sales For June, A Month Where Spending Fell 21% Compared To Last Year

EA Sports UFC 6 Leads Game Sales For June, A Month Where Spending Fell 21% Compared To Last Year

!UFC 6(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/26/8e1ffeb5/assets2026051778621559ufc6revtopuriavgaethjecleanweb16x9.jpg.webp) U.S. video game spending in June of this year dropped a substantial 21% compared to June of 2025. While that kind of decline might sound dismal, especially placed within the context of current economic struggles and abundant price increases everywhere, it's also due to just how good June 2025 was for video game spending, bolstered by the record-breaking launch of the Nintendo Switch 2(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/nintendo-switch-2), as reported by the latest Circana analyst report. EA Sports UFC 6(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/ea-sports-ufc-6) took the top spot for best-selling game of 2026 for U.S. spending on physical and full game digital dollar sales, with Meccha Chameleon behind it in second, followed by 007 First Light(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/007-first-light) and Star Fox(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/star-fox-2026), the recently released Nintendo Switch 2 remake of Star Fox 64. The top 10 is as follows: 1. EA Sports UFC 6 2. Meccha Chameleon 3. 007 First Light 4. Star Fox 5. Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight 6. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream 7. Forza Horizon 6 8. MLB: The Show 26 9. Minecraft 10. NBA 2K26 U.S. video game spending reached $4.5 billion during June (in totality), and first-half spending for the year finished 1% behind 2025's pace, at $27.5 billion. For June 2026 itself, video game hardware spending dropped 62% compared to June 2025, down to $383 million, driven by the aforementioned Switch 2 launch. Switch 2 hardware spending in the U.S. actually dropped 79% compared to its launch month last year, though that's likely to be expected given a console launch is a massive month, if not the biggest, for sales. That said, the Switch 2 remained the best-selling hardware across both units sold and dollars for June 2026 and 2026 year-to-date, with PlayStation 5 ranking second across the same measures. PlayStation 5 spending fell 19% year-on-year, and Xbox Series spending fell more than double that, according to Circana's report. Looking more broadly at U.S video game spending, content (games, etc.) spending fell by 12% last month, compared to June 2025, down to $3.9 billion. Year-to-date content dollars remain flat compared to 2025, though, sitting at $24.3 billion. Surprisingly, subscription service spending was the only content segment in video game spending that experienced growth last month, jumping up 7% compared to June 2025; even mobile spending is down, which is rare. Finally, June accessories spending fell 21% from last year, to $232 million, and controller spending, specifically, dropped 31%. For more, read Game Informer's reviews of EA Sports UFC 6(https://gameinformer.com/review/ea-sports-ufc-6/complacency-at-the-top), 007 First Light(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/007-first-light/cinematic-flair), Star Fox(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/star-fox-2026/mission-complete), and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/lego-batman-legacy-of-the-dark-knight/batman-built-different). Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto Defends Remakes Ahead Of Ocarina Of Time Switch 2 Remake

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto Defends Remakes Ahead Of Ocarina Of Time Switch 2 Remake

Gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario and The Legend of Zelda, has spoken up to defend remakes. A lot of people embrace and enjoy remakes, while others say developers should instead spend more time and resources on entirely new games. Miyamoto, for his part, said remakes are good, actually, because a lot of people might have missed out on a game when it was originally released. Beyond that, commercial success of a remake can lead to additional resources that a company can use to put into new projects, Miyamoto said. “Some people might say there are a lot of remakes, but after five years, a lot of people have outgrown games and stop playing them. Young people today don’t have the opportunity to play games from 10 years ago, so remaking them to be more playable and releasing them again is a good way to meet the demand," he told Famitsu(https://www.famitsu.com/article/202607/82056), as translated by Nintendo Everything(https://nintendoeverything.com/miyamoto-defends-the-idea-that-there-are-too-many-remakes-explains-why-nintendo-releases-them/). "Letting people know the original games also leads to future developments, so we’ve been actively pursuing that recently.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ze-346WTsI0 Nintendo has released numerous remakes over the years, so it's not surprising to hear Miyamoto say what he said. The next big remake from Nintendo is The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time remake(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-finally-reveals-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-remake-for-2026/), which comes to Switch 2 this year. Remakes are popular across the entire gaming industry. The next big remake is Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the 2001 game (minus competitive multiplayer), and it launches in early access on July 23(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-campaign-evolved-release-date-and-global-launch-times-revealed/). A study from 2025 found that nearly all gamers played a remake or remaster the previous year(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/report-finds-nearly-all-gamers-have-played-a-remaster-or-remake-in-last-year/1100-6534807/). Another report found that, in 2025, remakes and remasters reached more than 138 million downloads(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nostalgia-wins-remakes-and-remasters-reached-138-million-downloads-in-2025/1100-6538440/).

Xbox Sales “More Than Doubled” In June 2026 In The US, While PS5 And Switch 2 Dropped

Xbox Sales “More Than Doubled” In June 2026 In The US, While PS5 And Switch 2 Dropped

Circana, formerly NPD, has released its latest monthly sales report for the US video game industry, and one key takeaway was that Xbox was the only console platform to grow in sales during the month. Xbox Series X|S unit sales grew by 86% compared to June 2025(https://bsky.app/profile/matpiscatella.bsky.social/post/3mrafirrlwt2s), and June 2026 was the best month so far in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S sales, Circana said. In June 2025, Xbox Series X|S sales were negatively impacted by the price increase that was put into effect in May 2025, Circana's Mat Piscatella added. The Switch 2, meanwhile, saw its unit sales fall by 78% in June 2026(https://bsky.app/profile/matpiscatella.bsky.social/post/3mragh6ffts2m) compared to June 2025. The drop off was expected, of course, because June 2025 was when the Switch 2 launched, and it saw big sales out of the gate that would make a year-over-year comparison difficult. PS5 unit sales in June 2026 fell by 43% compared to June 2025, Piscatella added. In terms of dollar sales, Xbox Series X|S sales more than doubled, Circana said, with Switch 2 hardware spending falling by 79% and PS5 dipping by 19%. Xbox's year-over-year gains in June 2026 were not enough to offset the declines from PlayStation 5 and Switch 2, with total spending on hardware in the US dropping a mighty 62%, falling to $383 million. The Switch 2, despite its lower sales and revenue volume in June 2026 compared to June 2025, was June 2026's best-selling platform ranked by unit and dollar sales. Additionally, the Switch 2 is 2026's best-selling platform overall by those measurements, with PS5 ranking second and Xbox Series X|S third. In terms of game sales, UFC 6 was the No. 1 best-selling game in the US during June 2026(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/top-20-best-selling-games-of-2026-so-far-in-the-us/2900-7514/1), while Resident Evil Requiem remains 2026's best-selling game overall so far(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/top-20-best-selling-games-of-2026-so-far-in-the-us/2900-7514/1).

NBA 2K is the court that never locks up, it's always open whether you're in Paris or San Antonio. It's how you study the game, sharpen your IQ, and live basketball 24/7. To be the face of a game that fuels that hunger for hoops and whose covers immortalize the all-time greats; that’s a dream come true for me.” - Caitlin Clark: "Being on the cover of NBA 2K27 is special because this game reaches fans all over the world. To be the first WNBA player on her own global cover means women's basketball gets to show up on that stage too, and I am proud to be part of that." - Derrick Rose: "It’s crazy looking back at being on the NBA 2K13 cover to now having my own edition for NBA2K27. During my journey, there have been coaches who believed in me, teammates who made me better, and fans who showed up louder than I ever expected. So, this is a chance to inspire young athletes to stay obsessed with the game. To show them that when you put in the countless hours of hard work, it rewards you.” NBA 2K27 launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on September 4.
