🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformNew PS5 Update Is Out Now, But Don’t Get Too Excited
Sony has released a new firmware update for PS5 consoles, but don't expect Version: 26.04-13.40.00 to introduce any sweeping changes to the console. Instead, this is one of the usual PlayStation updates focused on system stability, and the very brief patch notes hammer this point home. "We've improved system software performance and stability," it reads(https://www.playstation.com/en-za/support/hardware/ps5/system-software-info/). And that's all there is to it. The last few PS5 updates have added a few more features to the console, like the version 26.03-13.20.00 console patch that dropped in an upgraded version of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) for PS5 Pro console owners. Before that, previous updates added an improved Friends Activity widget, an option to check the serial number of your PS5 console, and a power saver mode for supported PS5 games was added. Between the major updates, Sony also dropped in a few stability upgrades(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-ps5-update-is-out-now-does-what-you-expect-and-more/1100-6537714/). This tinkering with the PS5 console hardware comes just in time for a very busy season of gaming. While this week's gaming showcases will pave the way for what console owners can expect to play in the second half of 2026--with September shaping up to be a buffet of high-profile releases looking to avoid GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/september-2026-is-packed-with-games-trying-to-avoid-gta-6/)--Sony's tentpole exclusive for the year is Marvel's Wolverine(https://www.gamespot.com/games/marvels-wolverine/). The recent State of Play(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-state-of-play-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/) trailer showed off more of the game in action, as well as the impressive work done to create highly detailed setpiece moments, character models, and Wolverine's thick coat of body hair. Beyond that big release, other games like Control Resonant(https://www.gamespot.com/games/control-resonant/), Onimusha: Way of the Sword(https://www.gamespot.com/games/onimusha-way-of-the-sword/), and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls(https://www.gamespot.com/games/marvel-tokon-fighting-souls/) look like they'll be pushing the PS5 hardware to its limits, and it's still impressive how good most of these games look on tech that's almost six years old. 🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformControl Resonant Has 48 Hours Early Access, But Only On PS5
Remedy's multiplatform action game Control Resonant showed up during the PlayStation State of Play(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-state-of-play-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/) event this week, and it turns out the game is giving PS5 users preferential treatment. One of the perks of buying the $70 digital deluxe edition of Control Resonant on PS5 is 48 hours of early access(https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/EP5291-PPSA3454700-0993602042148218). That means PS5 users who pay $10 more than the standard edition can start playing on September 22. Everyone else can get started on September 24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFmz2jV7Zkw The digital deluxe edition also includes the Hiss Corruption outfit and Pickpocket's Tool artifact on all platforms, but PS5 players get something more: the Occult outfit. The digital deluxe edition of Control Resonant also costs $70 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but PS5 is the only place to get 48-hour early access and the Occult outfit. These types of exclusivity deals are not uncommon in games, but it's still a bummer that two out of the game's three platforms are missing out on some content and early access, despite paying the same amount. PC and Xbox users will also have to deal with potentially having the game's story spoiled for them as they wait the two days to get started. A new story trailer for Control Resonant was released during the State of Play event this week--check it out above.
🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformControl Resonant PC Requirements Are More Reserved Than You Might Expect
Ahead of its release in September, Remedy Entertainment has revealed the recommended PC specifications for Control Resonant, and they aren't as demanding as you might think. Hot on the heels of the game's latest trailer during Sony's State of Play(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-state-of-play-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/), Remedy shared the minimum and recommended hardware configurations you'll need for Control Resonant later this year, with GPUs and CPUs from several generations past being the most demanding aspects. On the recommended front, Resonant will require either an RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, which released all the way back in 2020 and 2021 respectively. They're also severely limited cards when it comes to memory by modern standards. The RTX 3070 specifically features only 8GB of VRAM, which has been too little for many recent releases. That bodes well if you're still clinging onto older hardware in light of the ongoing AI-driven memory crisis, which has made everything with fast memory more expensive to purchase. Minimum: - OS: Windows 10/ 11 (64-bit required) - Processor: Intel corei5-8500 or AMD equivalent - Memory: 16GB RAM - Graphics: GeForce GTX 1070 / Radeon RX 5600 XT - Storage: 100GB SSD Recommended: - OS: Windows 10/ 11 (64-bit required) - Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel equivalent - Memory: 16GB RAM - Graphics: GeForce RTX 3070 / Radeon RX 6700 XT - Storage: 100GB SSD The caveat here is that while Remedy Entertainment seems to be catering to players with aging systems, there's no indication yet what type of performance you can expect with these configurations. The studio says that information will come closer to launch, presumably with breakdowns indicating what hardware you'll need to run the sequel at higher resolutions with more graphically demanding settings like ray tracing, which the first Control was renowned for. Control Resonant is launching on September 24, and there's a slew of other massive games occupying the same month such as Marvel's Wolverine, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Silent Hill: Townfall, and more.
Control Resonant's Digital Deluxe Edition Includes 48 Hours Early Access, But It's Exclusive To PS5
!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2025/12/11/1cebf2cf/control04.jpg.webp) Remedy Entertainment released a new trailer for its upcoming action game, Control: Resonant(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/control-resonant), during yesterday's PlayStation State of Play(https://www.gameinformer.com/round-up/2026/06/02/heres-everything-shown-during-the-june-2026-playstation-state-of-play), revealing a September 24 release date(https://www.gameinformer.com/2026/06/02/new-control-resonant-trailer-shows-glimpse-of-jesse-faden-and-a-september-release-date) with it. Shortly after, people noticed that the PlayStation Store listing for the Digital Deluxe Edition(https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/EP5291-PPSA3454700-0993602042148218) includes a Hiss Corruption Outfit, an Occult Outfit, the Pickpocket's Tool Artifact, some other digital goodies, and 48-hour early access starting September 22. The trend of being able to pay more for a game to jump in a couple of days early is already disappointing and annoying, preying on the very-real FOMO some players experience in such an online connected landscape (not to mention a fear of spoilers that might appear online) – last month, Xbox charged a whopping $120 to jump into Forza Horizon 6(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/forza-horizon-6/remaining-on-the-podium) a few days early, and it's one of the most egregious examples of early access premiums. Now, Remedy is only charging $69.99 for the Control Resonant Digital Deluxe Edition, which is the full price of most triple-A games these days, but to amplify an already frustrating tactic, the company has made this option exclusive to PlayStation 5 players, as reported by PushSquare(https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2026/06/ps5-early-access-pre-orders-truly-are-getting-out-of-hand). When asked by a fan on X, Remedy communications director Thomas Puha confirmed(https://x.com/RiotRMD/status/2062031551790252082?s=20) that this edition and getting into the game 48 hours early are exclusive to the PS5 version of Control Resonant. In an ideal world, none of this pay-extra-to-play-a-couple-of-days-early stuff exists, but if you're going to prey on FOMO, at least make it something all players excited for your game, regardless of platform, can access. It's a frustrating trend made even more frustrating by actions such as this, and one we'll likely continue to see more of. In the meantime, check out this Control Resonant gameplay trailer(https://www.gameinformer.com/state-of-play/2026/02/12/control-resonant-shows-off-new-reality-warping-gameplay) from earlier this year, and then watch the Control Resonant reveal trailer(https://www.gameinformer.com/the-game-awards-2025/2025/12/11/remedy-reveals-control-resonant-a-melee-action-rpg-sequel-to). After that, read Game Informer's Control review(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/control/a-heady-power-trip).
