!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/05/06/d4f5f6d3/mina-the-hollower-scene.jpg.webp) Shovel Knight developer Yacht Club Games has finally revealed a new release date for its long-awaited retro-inspired action game, Mina the Hollower(https://gameinformer.com/preview/2023/09/04/a-new-look-at-the-promising-love-letter-to-the-game-boy-era). Thankfully, it’s only a few weeks away, as the game arrives on May 29th. First announced in February 2022(https://gameinformer.com/2022/02/01/mina-the-hollower-is-shovel-knight-studio-yacht-club-games-next-project), Mina the Hollower draws inspiration from top-down Zelda, Castlevania, and sports an 8-bit presentation evoking Game Boy Color titles. It stars Mina, a famous scientist or “Hollower” who travels to a cursed island to help restore its lost power. Playing off her title, Mina can burrow underground, which is used in combat, puzzle-solving, and exploring the overworld and dungeons. Mina also wields a whip to attack enemies and can also use a variety of sidearms. Check out the most recent trailer from last year below to see the game in action (just disregard the out-of-date October release date). Mina the Hollower was originally crowdfunded on Kickstarter, and backers were the first to learn of the game’s new release date. The game was first scheduled to release last Halloween before it was delayed(https://gameinformer.com/2025/10/06/yacht-club-games-delays-mina-the-hollower). Mina the Hollower will launch on May 29 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. 🎮 Multi-platformHow Reality Fracture Will Push The Boundaries Of Magic The Gathering (And Its Printers)
One of Magic the Gathering's biggest releases of 2026, Reality Fracture, will see the franchise's iconic Planeswalker Jace create the Echoverse(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/we-finally-know-what-magic-the-gatherings-reality-fracture-set-is-about-and-it-rules/1100-6539750/), a mirrored version of the current MTG universe in which world-defining events have been rewritten. In a press Q&A at this year's MagicCon Vegas, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater said that a "What If" set has been one of the most requested by fans in the franchise's history, and Reality Fracture satisfies that need. However, while the Echoverse creates a ton of possibilities, this release will intentionally be very focused. "Very early on, we were talking about maybe going broader," Rosewater said. "But we decided that one of the lessons from March of the Machines was we went a little bit too broad, and we decided we wanted to focus a little bit more. So, we'll see nods about other places, but really, the story is on Hexhaven." Hexhaven is Reality Fracture's version of Strixhaven, which was the focus of the latest Magic release Secrets of Strixhaven(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/magic-the-gathering-secrets-of-strixhaven-includes-banned-power-nine-spell-and-a-powerful-tutor/1100-6539119/). Typically, when one corner of the MTG multiverse is explored in a set, the subsequent releases will revolve around a completely different part of the lore, making Wizard of the Coast's choice to return to the college an unusual one for the game; this decision could easily risk inundating players with too much scholarly content. However, Rosewater reassured me that while Hexhaven is central to Reality Fracture, this set will be different from them doing a Hexhaven-focused set. 🎮 Multi-platformMortal Kombat 2 Reviews Are Split Down The Middle, And For Once That's Literal
After a lengthy wait and a last-minute delay, Mortal Kombat 2(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/mortal-kombat-2-movie-release-date-and-everything-we-know-so-far/2900-6386/) is finally bicycle-kicking its way into theaters this week. The sequel to 2021's Mortal Kombat has been promising bigger fights, deeper lore dives, and Karl Urban hamming it up as fan-favorite character Johnny Cage, but what do the early reviews say? Currently, they're more divided than one of Kung Lao's opponents after they've been subjected to his fatality. GameSpot's sister site Metacritic(https://www.metacritic.com/movie/mortal-kombat-ii/critic-reviews/) has begun gathering up reviews, and so far, the metascore aggregate is sitting on a dead-average 50 from 21 sites at the time of writing. This number will change as more reviews go live over the next few weeks, but it looks like opinions are all over the place when it comes to Mortal Kombat 2. When it comes to positive reviews, IGN(https://www.ign.com/articles/mortal-kombat-ii-2-movie-review) called Mortal Kombat 2 a showcase of "big and loud" action, while SlashFilm(https://www.slashfilm.com/2165056/mortal-kombat-2-movie-review/) described the sequel as one of the biggest surprises of the year. On the opposite end of the review spectrum, outlets like The AV Club(https://www.avclub.com/mortal-kombat-ii-review) described it as a campy mess without any heart, Radio Times(https://www.radiotimes.com/movies/mortal-kombat-2-review/) labeled Mortal Kombat 2 as a serviceable follow-up at best, and Variety(https://variety.com/2026/film/reviews/mortal-kombat-ii-review-karl-urban-1236738114/) says the movie is all style without any real substance. The lack of a cohesive story appears to be one of the major complaints from reviewers, but Urban's portrayal as a washed-up martial arts movie star drafted into protecting the realms has been generally well-received. 🎮 Multi-platformDiablo In Diablo 4? It Could Still Be A While (Or Possibly Never)
Diablo 4's Lord of Hatred expansion brings a conclusive end to the storyline started in the base game of Blizzard's live-service ARPG, but already players are wondering what comes next. According to those following Diablo 4's lore, it might not be Diablo himself. Spoilers for Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred below. Mephisto's defeat in the expansion brings an end to the Age of Hatred, wrapping up the storyline that started in 2023 with Diablo 4's release. Lilith is gone for the time being, having been defeated in the base game, and her connection to the player-character severed in Lord of Hatred. Mephisto is sent into the Void, from which he can't reform in hell. That leaves a bit of a power vacuum in Sanctuary, and while many fans would likely love to see the franchise's namesake appear as the next big bad of Diablo 4, the more likely candidate is Baal, the Lord of Destruction.
