Saros May Struggle To Recoup Its Budget, Despite Great Reviews - Analyst

Housemarque's Saros launched earlier this month to rave reviews, and it's a legitimate frontrunner for Game of the Year at this early point in 2026. However, it appears sales of the game have thus far been slower than its predecessor, Returnal, and the game may struggle to recoup its budget. That's according to Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics(https://x.com/superhys/status/2054288174550258000), who estimates Saros sold approximately 300,000 copies in its first two weeks on sale. This figure is a little behind Returnal, a very similar game that was released much earlier in the PS5's lifecycle. Saros is the first game developed by Housemarque since the studio was acquired by Sony, having operated independently and primarily developed games for PlayStation systems in the years prior. Thus far, a huge percentage of Saros players have previously played Returnal--Alinea estimates it at 79%--and about one-third of the game's sales thus far were during the early-access period. Ken Levine On Why He Quit Making BioShock Games--"Scary And Risky And Crazy"

Veteran game developer Ken Levine stepped away from the BioShock series after 2013's BioShock Infinite, and while the series is going ahead with BioShock 4(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/bioshock-4-release-date-trailer-story/1100-6530162/?ftag=CAD-01-10abi2f/), it's doing so without him. Why did Levine step away to work on a different game, Judas(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/judas-release-date-trailer-news/1100-6531958/), instead of sticking with the series he created? Speaking to IGN(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agqqjUd2bIY), Levine said BioShock remains "very important" to him and that he feels "incredibly fortunate" to have worked on a franchise that means so much to so many people. However, he opted to step away in part because he "didn't have a lot else to say in that world." He also reflected on how working on established franchises can be something of a trap. "A franchise is an interesting thing because it can come to own you if you're not careful. It can define you. It was scary and risky and crazy to walk away from a very successful franchise. I didn't walk away because I didn't love the franchise," he said. "I wanted to step away and challenge myself in a different way, and challenge a team in a different way. Things can own you if you hold them too tightly rather than the other way around. I will always love BioShock and I can't wait to see what they do with it." One Of Steam’s Breakout Roguelites Is Getting A Sequel

Deadzone: Rogue 2(https://www.gamespot.com/games/deadzone-rogue/) has officially been announced by developer Prophecy Games, with the studio promising a sharper follow-up to the 2025 roguelite first-person shooter. Prophecy Games says that the core gunplay and foundation of the original game have been kept intact, but it's aiming to deliver an experience that's deeper, more flexible, and feels more rewarding to master. A demo for Deadzone: Rogue 2 will also go live in June 2026 on PC, showcasing how the sequel has evolved the concepts of the first game. As for those changes, Prophecy Games added that Deadzone: Rogue 2 will feature an expanded progression system that gives players greater control and build variety across various abilities, weapons, and run modifiers. New zones and environments will be introduced, and an expanded collection of enemies and bosses will keep players on their toes in the heat of battle. The "core feel" of Deadzone's gunplay will remain intact, but Prophecy Games says that it has been "refined and sharpened" across the board. Deadzone Rogue 2, Follow-Up To Excellent Roguelite FPS, Announced

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/05/12/ec1c82d0/dzrh.jpg.webp) Deadzone: Rogue was a game that slipped past our collective radars, but once we finally played it upon its Switch 2 release, we absolutely loved it, awarding it a 9 out of 10(https://gameinformer.com/review/deadzone-rogue/rewarding-repetition). Now, quicker than most expected, developer Prophecy Games has announced a sequel to its roguelite FPS, Deadzone Rogue 2. In Deadzone Rogue 2, you fight as Talon 13-10 on a fallen Earth. While the core gameplay sounds familiar to anyone who played the first game – you work through runs of each area, forging your loadout as you blast through hordes of enemies – it iterates in seemingly important ways. In addition to extended play progression with new abilities, weapons, and run modifiers, players can expect new biomes, layouts, enemies, and bosses to deal with. On top of that, drop-in co-op joins the formula, allowing for more flexible cooperative play for up to three players. While we don't know too much more about this sequel, we know we can't wait to see how Prophecy Games is improving on the already-excellent foundation of the franchise. And with details on a pre-release demo promised in June, we hope we'll have that chance sooner rather than later. For more on why we loved Deadzone: Rogue so much, check out our review(https://gameinformer.com/review/deadzone-rogue/rewarding-repetition). !(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/05/12/ed433327/screenshot5.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/05/12/e53cf95f/screenshot2.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/05/12/b9db25be/screenshot4.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/05/12/1d2b601c/screenshot6.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/05/12/c6d251cb/screenshot3.jpg.webp)!(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/05/12/6dbee25b/screenshot1.jpg.webp)
