🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformHere’s How To Check If You Can Play The Duskbloods This Month
You can now check if you were picked for the closed network test for The Duskbloods(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/your-first-chance-to-play-the-duskbloods-early-is-next-month/), but you won't get an email invitation as you might expect. To see if you can take part in the playtest of From Software's Switch 2 multiplayer title, you'll have to go to the website for the network test(https://campaign.theduskbloods.jp/p/event/networktest/). From there, click on the three-line menu on the top right of the page and select "Account" to go to your personal page(https://campaign.theduskbloods.jp/p/event/networktest/mypage/). Once there, you'll see your selection results--the page will tell you either way. Unfortunately, if you see blue "You were not selected to participate" text, you didn't make it in, which stings harder than reading "YOU DIED" in Dark Souls. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-07-093408.png) Here's what the selection results look like for the lucky players chosen. Those selected for the network test can find their download code on the website starting Tuesday, August 18, at 6 AM PT/9 AM ET. The network test will run at the following times: - Friday, August 21: 3 AM to 7 AM PT / 6 AM to 10 AM ET - Friday, August 21: 7 PM to 11 PM PT / 10 PM to 2 AM ET - Saturday, August 22: 11 AM to 3 PM PT / 2 PM to 6 PM ET - Sunday, August 23: 3 AM to 7 AM PT / 6 AM to 10 AM ET - Sunday, August 23: 7 PM to 11 PM PT/ 10 PM to 2 AM ET There still haven't been too many details about The Duskbloods since its initial reveal over a year ago(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/the-duskbloods-trailer-breakdown-all-the-details-in-from-softwares-switch-2-exclusive/2900-6393/), so participants will be able to learn much more about the game firsthand through this playtest. From Software has yet to announce a release date, but The Duskbloods is apparently hitting the Switch 2 this year(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-duskbloods-is-getting-a-network-test-soon-but-no-release-date-in-sight/). 🎮 PlayStation, Xbox, Multi-platformTake-Two CEO Says Streaming Could Soon Make Expensive Consoles Matter Less
A base PS5 or Xbox Series X|S console costs far more today(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/rising-costs-have-forced-these-gamers-to-make-tough-decisions/) than it did almost six years ago(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-xbox-and-switch-2-heres-how-their-prices-have-changed-since-launch/), but despite that, GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) publisher Take-Two Interactive doesn't believe that the more-expensive gaming hardware will slow down its business or sales of the upcoming game. Speaking to investors as part of a briefing on its recent financial quarter, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did mention that lower-priced gaming hardware would still be preferable, but the current state of the technology could have a surprise silver lining. "The rising cost of hardware is not a good thing. I don't think it will slow us down any because, you know, we're delivering, we believe we're delivering experiences that people want," Zelnick said. "However, a lower price point for hardware would be a good thing because there'd be more hardware in people's hands. Probably the most relevant thing is the world continues to move to open systems, and that will continue." Zelnick added that PC used to make up a fraction of sales 20 years ago--around 2%--but in the years since then, the platform accounts for up to 50% of sales. The CEO believes the gap will only continue to grow, and cloud-streaming could also play a big role in bringing more games to more people--and that future isn't too far away, Zelnick believes. "If you believe in streaming, and to be clear, we really do, and I'm happy to put a timeline on it. I think we'll be in commercial streaming mode within three years, and by commercial, I mean low latency. That can 10x the effective installed base. Now, it doesn't mean we're going to 10x our revenue--and we wouldn't project that we would--but because obviously your avid consumers already had access to video game machines. But I do think it creates great opportunity for titles that are broadly desirable, even outside of core markets." While the idea of cloud-streaming games isn't new--RIP, Google Stadia--the technology behind it has continued to improve over the years, with Microsoft making big strides in this space. As for consoles, if you haven't bought one yet for highly anticipated games like GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/take-two-defends-gta-6s-80-price-calls-it-phenomenal-value/), you might not want to delay that decision for too much longer. Prices look set to increase(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-may-have-another-price-hike-up-its-sleeve-in-2027/) again next year, while PC gamers are facing another tough year as the biggest manufacturers of RAM chips have reportedly sold out all their production(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/all-of-2027s-ram-could-already-be-gone-as-major-manufacturers-sell-out/) for 2027. 🎮 Multi-platformGTA 6 Preorders Are “Unprecedented” Across The Industry, Take-Two Claims
Following the launch of GTA 6 preorders(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-preorders-begin-june-25-cover-art-revealed/) in late June, it immediately became apparent that there was, unsurprisingly, huge demand for the game. Now, in a Take-Two earnings call, the publishing company's CEO said the number of preorders is "unprecedented" across the industry. Strauss Zelnick said, "No one's ever seen anything like this before at Take-Two, or in the industry." He went on to add that exceptional preorders don't always equal exceptional sales, though. "To be clear, we haven't sold one unit yet. You can cancel a preorder." While Zelnick declined to comment on sales expectations, he said, "The news is great so far, we're incredibly excited. We couldn't be more excited than we are, and yet we are realistic and, at best, cautiously optimistic. We're going to leave it at that until the thing occurs." He continued, "The level of preorders is unprecedented and astonishing, and we're grateful for that." The claims came after Take-Two affirmed that GTA 6 is not delayed(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-has-not-been-delayed-still-on-track-for-its-november-launch/) further, and will still be releasing on November 19. The company also believes that its $80 price tag is "phenomenal value."(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/take-two-defends-gta-6s-80-price-calls-it-phenomenal-value/)
🎮 Multi-platformTake-Two Defends GTA 6’s $80 Price, Calls It “Phenomenal Value”
While most of Take-Two Interactive's games are priced at $70--which became a much more common MSRP for new releases from 2020 onwards--GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) is one of a handful of titles(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-might-normalize-80-games-but-analysts-say-only-a-few-can-pull-it-off/) that will retail for $80(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-preorders-begin-june-25-cover-art-revealed/)--a price that the publisher believes is "phenomenal value" for the open-world game. Speaking to investors following the release of Take-Two's quarterly earnings, CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed a query about how the publisher had landed on an $80 price point for GTA 6. Zelnick echoed previous statements made regarding the value proposition of GTA 6, and how the publisher is aiming to "overdeliver" on the value attached to that title. "Our goal is to deliver way more value to consumers than what we charge them," Zelnick said. The truth is that the real cost of a AAA video game is a whole lot lower today than it was 20 years ago. Pricing has not kept pace with inflation, and our goal is to continue to overdeliver for our consumers, because how you feel about any experience is the intersection of the experience itself and what you paid for it. We expect that GTA 6 will be an incredible bargain as experiences go, this is a gross understatement because Rockstar Games is known for overdelivering. Our goal is not to maximize price." GTA 6 launches on November 19(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-has-not-been-delayed-still-on-track-for-its-november-launch/) for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and unsurprisingly, Take-Two is expecting the game to boost its revenue significantly(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/unsurprisingly-gta-6-has-take-two-predicting-a-massively-profitable-year-ahead/) during its current financial year. 🎮 Multi-platformGTA 6 Marketing Is Taking Place On “Virtually Every Social Media Outlet On Earth”
After announcing an extended look at GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-extended-look-coming-august-27-on-netflix/)--with a six-hour exclusivity window for Netflix in a first-of-its-kind reveal--Take-Two has said that marketing for the game is incredibly widespread. During the Take-Two earnings call on August 7, CEO Strauss Zelnick said that Netflix is "a great marketing partner" for the publishing company, and added that it is working "with virtually every social media outlet on Earth." Zelnick explained that this is part of Rockstar's marketing strategy, but didn't elaborate further on specifically how the partnership with Netflix came about. "Netflix is a close partner of the company," he said. "We're always in conversation about things that we can do together, and this is a groundbreaking partnership that Rockstar arranged with our friends at Netflix." Zelnick added that the company is "really excited" about how it's going to go, but declined to comment further on the terms of the arrangement. It's not all been positive following the announcement, though. There are concerns around Netflix's(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/netflix-gta-6-exclusive-seems-doomed/) ability to keep up with the expected strain on its servers, and the potential for the extended trailer to be immediately ripped from the platform and reuploaded elsewhere. Others believe that a game trailer shouldn't be paywalled(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-being-paywalled-behind-netflix-is-upsetting-a-lot-of-people-but-its-a-sign-of-the-times/).

🎮 Multi-platformUnsurprisingly, GTA 6 Has Take-Two Predicting A Massively Profitable Year Ahead
With GTA 6 still scheduled to launch in November(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-has-not-been-delayed-still-on-track-for-its-november-launch/), publisher Take-Two Interactive is expecting its current financial year--running from April 1 to March 31, 2027--to be very profitable. The company is expecting a 20% growth through the middle of the 2026 financial year, with revenue predicted(https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260806868549/en/Take-Two-Interactive-Software-Inc.-Reports-Results-for-Fiscal-First-Quarter-2027) to reach $8.2 billion thanks to GTA 6 and several other games. According to Take-Two's estimates, it's forecasting that Rockstar Games will be responsible for roughly 37% of its revenue, Zynga 34%, and other games from the 2K label will make up 29% of that revenue. GTA 6 will likely bring in an absurd amount of cash, alongside other legacy titles from Rockstar Games like GTA 5--which is the second-best-selling game of all time--Red Dead Redemption 2, and the microtransactions attached to those older titles. Zynga still remains a sales juggernaut with its portfolio of mobile games, while the 2K Games label includes annual sports titles like NBA, PGA Tour, and WWE--all lucrative IP that have significant post-launch strategies. To put that into perspective, NBA 2K26 was a big hit this year for Take-Two Interactive, and it has had an "outstanding" year thanks to a boost in microtransaction sales. "Our live-service execution remains a cornerstone of NBA 2K's sustained success," Take-Two Interactive said(https://www.take2games.com/ir/quarterly-earnings) in its quarterly earnings briefing. The publisher also has several other games in development like Judas, Project Ethos, and the next BioShock, but no release dates have been announced for them yet. NBA 2K27 is the next big game out of Take-Two on September 4, and an extended look at GTA 6 will be shown exclusively on Netflix(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-extended-look-coming-august-27-on-netflix/) for several hours. 🎮 PlayStation, Xbox, Multi-platformGTA 6 Has Not Been Delayed, Still On Track For Its November Launch
GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) is still on track to launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, Take-Two Interactive has confirmed. As part of the publisher's quarterly briefing, Take-Two provided updates on several of its projects, including Rockstar Games' long-simmering open-world game--and the rosy financial outlook that the company is expecting from its launch. "Our excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels," Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said during a Take-Two earnings call on August 7. "With these positive trends and excitement around the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8 billion to $8.2 billion." Whenever the results of a new Take-Two financial quarter are made public, there's always some fear that a GTA 6 delay will be announced. Following its first delay to May 2026(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-delayed-to-2026/1100-6531282/) and another reshuffling of its launch date(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-delayed-to-november-2026/1100-6536012/) to November, these moves aren't unusual given Rockstar's history(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-did-rockstar-delay-gta-6/1100-6536423/) of games missing their originally scheduled launch dates. Recently, a former Rockstar Games employee said that he wouldn't be surprised if the game was delayed again(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/another-gta-6-delay-would-not-be-surprising-former-rockstar-dev-says/) by as much as six months. So far, it looks like it's full steam ahead, and after more than a year without a new look at the game, fans can tune in on August 27 to get an extended look at GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-extended-look-coming-august-27-on-netflix/) through Netflix. The streaming giant will be hosting the new content exclusively for several hours, and as you'd expect, a lot of people aren't happy(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-being-paywalled-behind-netflix-is-upsetting-a-lot-of-people-but-its-a-sign-of-the-times/) with the next GTA 6 trailer being behind a subscription paywall.
