The Video Games And More You Should Play This Weekend – August 7, 2026

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/07/3877d738/ssf9e2493ed572d923cd877eed70cd66a4a45f2cbb.1920x1080.jpg.webp) The weekend is upon us and it's full of quality video games. Cooperative games, versus games, farming games, and one Pokopia game. But before we share those, however, here are some of the biggest stories of the week. - Big Walk Review – A Walk To Remember(https://gameinformer.com/review/big-walk/a-walk-to-remember) - Grand Theft Auto VI Is Getting An 'Extended Look' On Netflix August 27(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/06/grand-theft-auto-vi-is-getting-an-extended-look-on-netflix-august-27) - Nintendo Reveals Digital Sales Up 90% Compared To Last Year, Switch 2 Units Top 23 Million, And More(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/06/nintendo-reveals-digital-sales-up-90-compared-to-last-year-switch-2-units-top-23-million) - Beast of Reincarnation Review – Boring World, Beguiling Combat(https://gameinformer.com/review/beast-of-reincarnation/boring-world-beguiling-combat) - Electronic Arts Has Been Fully Acquired By Trio Of Investor Groups And Is Now Private(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/04/electronic-arts-has-been-fully-acquired-by-trio-of-investor-groups-and-is-now-private) - How Capcom Reinvented And Updated Onimusha’s Combat In Way Of The Sword(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-feature/2026/08/05/how-capcom-reinvented-and-updated-onimushas-combat-in-way-of-the-sword) - Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny Director Motohide Eshiro On Onimusha: Way Of The Sword’s Resurrection Of The Series(https://gameinformer.com/exclusive-interview/2026/08/04/onimusha-2-samurais-destiny-director-motohide-eshiro-on-onimusha-way) !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/08/07/5f4f2459/ss303352b4f2d93de55e332b2d5df0f30d1d256129.1920x1080.jpg.webp) Big Walk Eric Van Allen Got some friends? Are they far apart? Do you not mind turning off your Discord, putting on proximity chat, and adventuring around an island to solve some puzzles and get into some antics? Big Walk is getting some big buzz, and for good reason: it's hard to think of any co-op game that's captured this specific kind of experience before now. Its puzzles are lighthearted and interactive, encouraging physicality and inventive thinking, without being Myst-level head-scratchers. The foley and sound are spectacular, and each new experience is a new excuse to do something silly with your pals. If you've got a group looking for their next co-op run, Big Walk should be it. --- Read Game Informer's Big Walk Review(https://gameinformer.com/review/big-walk/a-walk-to-remember) !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/08/07/7a159da6/a0385039c22548ad41d77a3ec2b158f43c11a66734585251f2a42d769d2162fa.jpg.webp) Pokémon Pokopia Bubbly Basin DLC Brian Shea Pokémon Pokopia's Bubbly Basin expansion, the first of three parts, hit this week, and it's exactly what I wanted: more Pokopia. When it launched earlier this year, Pokopia went from a game I was interested in primarily due to its connection to Pokémon to a game I still consider my favorite of 2026. The free update that hit alongside Bubbly Basin adds the ability to dive underwater and other quality-of-life updates, but the paid DLC gives you an entire new underwater biome to explore using the new Dive ability. The new area is chockful of new underwater caves to explore, Pokémon to befriend, tasks to complete, and Easter eggs that link it to an iconic area of the Kanto region. I thought I was done with Pokopia after pouring so many hours into it earlier this year, but now I'm sucked back in, thanks to the Bubbly Basin DLC. --- Read Game Informer's Pokémon Pokopia Review(https://gameinformer.com/review/pokemon-pokopia/a-pleasant-paradise) !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2025/09/29/b6fb9159/tokon-s2-8.jpg.webp) Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Eric Van Allen It's launch weekend for Tōkon, so players are finally digging into the full roster of Arc System Works' new 4v4 fighter. Though the Steam reviews have been a bit troubling so far – much of the negativity stemming from Linux and anti-cheat issues – it's been a pretty entertaining fighting game thus far. These are the best days to play a fighting game, after all, as everyone is logging on, running matches, and figuring the systems out. I've been getting a firmer handle on the tag mechanics and ways of sprinkling in assists and mix-ups, and think my team of Blade/Doom/Danger/Black Panther is solidifying. I'll be interested to see how it fits in with the current crop of visible, high-level fighting games, but for a weekend of running sets with your pals, Tōkon is pretty solid. It's fast, visually gorgeous, easy to pick up but with some solid depth, and the roster is fantastic; I love some of the dips into both fighting game history, with Deadpool's arsenal of fighting game references, and the unique slice of Marvel's broader gallery. Any game where I can play as a walking, talking version of the Danger Room is pretty sick. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/06/06/9638f58b/fieldsofmistria1.0announcementtrailer0-23screenshot.jpg.webp) Fields Of Mistria Charles Harte Fields of Mistria finally exited early access this week, so if you, like me, have been waiting for a chance to check out this cozy life sim inspired by games like Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon, now's your chance. It's a crowded genre, especially in the indie space, so it's a big deal that the game amassed over 20,000 positive reviews on steam in early access and proceeded to sell a million copies just hours after launch. With farming, fishing, combat, decorating, magic abilities, and a village full of neighbors to meet (or marry), there's no shortage of things to. It's even got a 10% launch discount. It's still a PC exclusive, though – here's hoping they've got a Switch 2 version in the works. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/08/07/b89a60c1/8aae869d14f45fbbe82c926877b82d49007ed35da31a5fc15eb51b9f84098ce8.jpg.webp) Lies Of P On Switch 2 Kyle Hilliard Games inspired by Dark Souls, colloquially referred as Soulslikes, are plentiful, but only a few have risen to the heights of From Software's landmark design acumen. Lies of P, the gothic retelling of the 1883 novel, The Adventures of Pinocchio, is among that group. It's a great game with an arguably bad name, and as of yesterday, it is available on Switch 2. I didn't dive super deep into my replay of Lies of P on Switch 2, but as has been the case with many Switch 2 ports... it's solid! It looks good and plays well. I originally played the game on Steam Deck, but it looks and feels better on Nintendo's handheld. In the future if I have a hankering to beat up some robots as a young Victorian boy in a gothic setting, this is the version I will be reaching for. --- Read Game Informer's Lies Of P Review(https://gameinformer.com/review/lies-of-p/master-of-puppets) !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/08/07/2640d497/5e88e1b80c53799036cb4c559bf658e4a24ff1cf9e76c741cc53b6a2bf8b7ac2.jpg.webp) Final Fantasy XIV On Switch 2 Eric Van Allen Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, with a free trial up through the award-winning Heavensward, Stormblood, and Shadowbringers expansions? Sign-up memes aside, Final Fantasy XIV is one of the biggest MMOs in the world, and for good reason. With XIV arriving on Switch 2 this week, that's a good excuse for anyone still holding out to finally jump in. In my personal opinion, you should; some loading issues aside(https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/1402cfda9eed62e8526de642a930d6f5004830c1), reports are in that the Switch 2 version seems to be handling the computing load well. Plus, the trial running up through Shadowbringers means you can experience some of the best RPG storytelling in the last decade. My personal sprint from A Realm Reborn through to Endwalker is still among my favorite gaming experiences, ever, and I'm almost tempted to roll a new character on the Switch 2. It's worth noting that for existing players that want to have a portable version of Final Fantasy XIV, you will annoyingly need to pay for a second subscription to play on Switch 2. If you're a Switch 2 owner looking for a long game to play, though, and no shortage of things to do in it, Final Fantasy XIV is waiting for you. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/07/28/86c6b0b2/marvels-spider-man-2-brand-new-day-2.jpg.webp) Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Kyle Hilliard Insomniac's Marvels' Spider-Man 2 released in 2023, but it remains a good game. You can read our review right here(https://gameinformer.com/review/marvels-spider-man-2/sticking-the-landing) where we gave it a 9.5/10. Since its release it has been getting tweaked and improved and new suits have been added, but the game has been fairly quiet over the last year. Recently, however, two new suits have been added to the game. The Spider-Man: Brand New Day suit(https://gameinformer.com/2026/06/19/marvels-spider-man-2-is-getting-the-brand-new-day-suit) from the what is inexplicably, apparently the most successful movie ever is now in the game. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/28/42800ddb/marvels-spider-man-2-tokon-suit-crop.jpg.webp) Another fun nod to recent Spider-Man media, the wall crawler's suit from Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/28/marvels-spider-man-2-update-add-brand-new-day-and-marvel-tokon-suits-today) has also been added. As an added bonus alongside the suits, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 now also supports Enhanced PSSR on PS5 Pro and a Power Saver mode. It's all basically a bunch of solid excuses to boot up a great game after watching the new movie. --- Read Game Informer's Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Review(https://gameinformer.com/review/marvels-spider-man-2/sticking-the-landing) !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/08/07/fd38367d/emerland2.jpg.webp) Tabletop Pick – Everdell Emerland Matt Miller Visit a distant and mysterious jungle, send out workers to find gems and other valuables, and discover the secrets of an ancient civilization – all with the help of anthropomorphic animal friends. Since the 2018 release of Everdell, we've seen several new installments that expand the excellent board game franchise in new directions. The newest installment, Emerland, sees the worker placement and tableau-building experience shift over into a jungle setting (including some fascinating ruins to explore), but it maintains much of what has made the series so attractive over the years. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/07/5260f3ea/emerland3.jpg.webp) Chief among those great traits is the vibrant and beautiful art, as well as the gorgeous table presence, which includes 3D elements on the board that elevate things both figuratively and literally. Several new mechanics make Emerland slightly more complex than earlier installments, but nothing that should scare off players with even a modest understanding of core board game concepts. And lest the word "series" scare you off: Be assured, Emerland is entirely standalone, and serves as a perfectly acceptable first game in the franchise to explore. Emerland is hitting wide release right now; if you're lucky, copies should start showing up at your favorite hobby store already. THQ Nordic Showcase 2026: All The News, Trailers, And Reveals

Since the Not-E3 blitz of summer gaming showcases, things have been relatively quiet since then. Amidst that break, THQ Nordic dropped a new showcase full of trailers to show what the publisher has on the way from its various studios. While it wasn't focused on big-name games like the ones you'd find in dedicated Xbox and PlayStation showcases, THQ Nordic instead has titles in very specific niche genres and IP. https://youtu.be/ToLh5Ruefxk Several of them are already available via early access or are already out and have post-launch plans in place, so if you're a fan of games that scratch a very specific itch for interactive entertainment, then you'll want to check out the list below of all the announcements. Let's Sing 2027 and Let’s Sing ABBA !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/THQ-Nordic-showcase-2026-8.jpg?w=636) Revealed in the preshow, Let's Sing 2027 is shaping up to conquer the karaoke video game space. This year's installment features 35 songs from artists such as Ariana Grande and Chappell Roan, and you can join in on singing radio-friendly love songs with or without the original vocals. On top of that, an ABBA pack is also coming to the game on November 3, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Dancing Queen. It includes 32 tracks that your great-grandparents will appreciate, from Waterloo to Mamma Mia. Don't be surprised if they tell you to "gimme gimme gimme" the microphone, Fernando. Pinball FX !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/THQ-Nordic-showcase-2026-14.jpg?w=636) Another preshow video, Zen Studios showed off its collection of Pinball FX tables that it has assembled over the years. The studio has locked down an impressive number of IP for the game, ranging from Peanuts to Star Wars, and if you're looking for some pinball fun, you can find the game on just about every PC and console. Reanimal: The Prisoner https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M05D1Ynuxfg New DLC is on the way for Reanimal in the form of The Prisoner. While it sadly isn't a crossover with the groovy counter-culture '60s TV show that starred Patrick McGoohan, fans of the Little Nightmares-inspired game can look forward to new environmental puzzles and challenges set within a battle-scarred landscape. You can grab it right now. Expeditions: Samurai https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ophpGhgKns Developer Campfire Cabal dropped a new trailer for Expeditions: Samurai, its upcoming tactical turn-based-combat game set in feudal Japan. Now out in early access on PC, the developer says that the game will receive three major updates while it works on fine-tuning the experience for players, and it'll be focusing on polishing gameplay balance, exploration, stealth, combat, and more. Titan Quest 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pred8p-zNQ&pp=0gcJCcQLAYcqIYzv Now that The Odyssey is the hot new thing in cinemas, it might be the perfect time to check out how the Greek-inspired ARPG Titan Quest 2 is shaping up. Still in early access, today's trailer for the game showed off gameplay for the new Spirit Mastery skills that players can wield in combat. Built around mastering the powers of the Underworld, these powers will allow you to manipulate the forces of life and death to summon spirits and cast spells. Call to Arms: Panzer Elite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYzv5ll7GUE World of Tanks doesn't have a monopoly on armored fighting vehicles, as Call to Arms: Panzer Elite also offers a pretty good spin on the lumbering war machines. A new update is now out for the game on PC, adding two new missions and two new tanks in the form of the M18 Hellcat and the M24 Chaffee. Way of the Hunter 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0hkJ6naYQ4 Oh deer, local wildlife has no idea what's in store for it when Way of the Hunter 2 launches on September 29 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Eternal Life of Goldman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz6dr8xrU5Y The Eternal Life of Goldman continues to look impressive with every new trailer, and this latest look at the game went behind the scenes of its beautiful handcrafted art, boss fights, and level design. It still doesn't have a release date, but The Eternal Life of Goldman is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Guild: Europa 1410 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0nBzCb2zeg Do you think that you have what it takes to keep the local peasants under control and establish a mighty kingdom during medieval times? Then you'll want to check out The Guild: Europa 1410 and see just how long your dynasty will last while you juggle your responsibilities as a noble in this feudal management game. You can choose to make your fortune through legitimate means or through some less-than-legal methods, and the game will be hitting early access in September. Wreckfest 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rALY2BE-eI Wreckfest 2 has grown throughout its early-access journey, and this new trailer was essentially a sizzle reel for the destruction derby racing game. Gothic 1 Remake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFQ8EMaVM4&pp=0gcJCcQLAYcqIYzv Gothic 1 Remake launched earlier this year, and developer Alkimia Interactive outlined its post-launch plans for the game. This will include various updates and new features like photo mode, mod support, alternative progression, and more. Gothic Classic Trilogy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqnfudVwoHI In case that's not enough Gothic for you, then you can look forward to playing through the original trilogy of games on console soon. Gothic Classic is now available, Gothic 2: Complete Classic launches on September 29, and Gothic 3 Classic will launch on November 24. Gothic: A Shadow's Quest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEb5ilZj7w Rounding out the Gothic announcements was the reveal of Gothic: A Shadow's Quest, which will launch through the tabletop crowdfunding platform Gamefound on September 30. Upcoming Games on Nintendo Switch compilation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZi-I5TWFA Finishing up the livestream was a quick reminder that several THQ Nordic games like Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Sacred 2 Remaster, SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, and the Destroy All Humans 2 Remakes are available for--or coming to--Switch consoles.

AI Tools Aren’t Going To Replace Anyone, Says GTA 6 Publisher Boss

During the latest investment call for Grand Theft Auto 6(https://www.gamespot.com/games/grand-theft-auto-vi/)'s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, CEO Strauss Zelnick weighed in on the future of AI in game development. While Zelnick acknowledges that even his company will utilize AI, he reiterated his belief that the emerging technology won't replace anyone. "Those AI tools are not going to replace anyone," said Zelnick. He also expanded on the company's approach, which he characterized as focusing on creating entertainment rather leading with technology. "The first of our core pillars is creativity," noted Zelnick. "And we have 13,000 colleagues around the world, the vast majority of whom are people who are creative every day. We believe the technology can enhance their creativity, but we do not believe it can or should replace their creativity." Zelnick added that he doesn't believe that using AI will significantly lower the price of development, but he argued that it could "meaningfully increase the quality" of the games. The CEO has made similar remarks in the past(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-parent-company-boss-dismisses-laughable-ai-uses-amid-a-flood-of-countless-games/1100-6538835/). During a 2025 investor call, Zelnick said that Take-Two won't use AI as an excuse(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/take-two-boss-were-not-using-ai-as-an-excuse-to-reduce-headcount/1100-6536019/) to lay off its employees. In addition to his latest AI missives, Zelnick assured Take-Two investors that GTA 6 hasn't been delayed(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-has-not-been-delayed-still-on-track-for-its-november-launch/) from its launch for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, Unsurprisingly, Zelnick is predicting that GTA 6 will carry the company through a very profitable fiscal year(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/unsurprisingly-gta-6-has-take-two-predicting-a-massively-profitable-year-ahead/). He also claimed that GTA 6 preorders are "unprecedented," and it may be the most in-demand game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-preorders-are-unprecedented-across-the-industry-take-two-claims/) that the industry has ever seen.
