🎮 Multi-platformMonopoly Go Is Crossing Over With The Simpsons For A Battle Of The Billionaires
A new battle of the billionaires kicks off this week in Monopoly Go, as the game's mustachioed mascot takes on Springfield's sun-blocking tyrant from The Simpsons, Mr. Burns. Scopely has announced a Simpsons crossover in Monopoly Go, which has been created in partnership with the team behind the long-running animated series. Starting June 3 and continuing through July 29, the event will see iconic Springfield locations given a Monopoly Go makeover. Players can also expect to see the entire Simpsons family and Mr. Burns in the game, alongside other fan-favorite characters. Some of the new gameplay twists include hidden details, deep-cut references, and Easter eggs. Find yourself in jail, and you can even bribe Chief Wiggum to get out of the joint early. "Working closely with The Simpsons creative team, our talented game-makers at Scopely set out to do much more than simply place Springfield inside the game; we wanted to build an entirely new shared universe where these iconic characters, stories, and gameplay experiences could cross over," said Victor Diaz-Roig, president of games at Scopely. "Every part of the season was designed with our Tycoons in mind, introducing fresh ways to play the game they love, while opening the doors for Simpsons fans to step into Monopoly Go for the very first time." https://youtu.be/pDxn0CD41b0 Scopely says that Monopoly Go will feature interconnected gameplay and original Simpsons narratives unfolding across seasonal maps, animated sequences, and sets. Narrative-driven episodes are at the heart of the crossover, as Simpsons-inspired storylines will kick off every two weeks inside of Monopoly Go. From Homer-triggered nuclear meltdowns to Bart and Lisa disappearing inside Krustyland, each episode will be accompanied by collectibles, mini-games, and more than 50 Simpsons-themed Chance Cards. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Chance-Card-Homer.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Chance-Card-Marge.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Chance-Card-Monorail.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Gameplay-1.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Gameplay-2.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Gameplay-3.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Jailbreak-Bribe-Gameplay-static.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Jailbreak-Bribe-static.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Map-Saga-Gameplay-static.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Tile-Runner-Gameplay-static.jpg) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Tile-Runner-Gameplay-2.jpg) The crossover will start with the debut of a Simpsons short, written and produced by The Simpsons team. The short sets the stage for the collaboration's narrative, as it sees Mr. Monopoly (voiced by Will Ferrell) go head-to-head with Mr. Burns, in a rivalry that has been brewing for decades. This isn't the first time that The Simpsons have headlined a mobile game--remember The Simpsons: Tapped Out(https://www.gamespot.com/games/the-simpsons-tapped-out/)?-- and last year, Springfield's favorite family took over Fortnite(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/everything-new-in-fortnite-simpsons-season/2900-7202/) for an entire season. 🎮 Multi-platformGTA 6 Still Needs Big Marketing Push Despite Unprecedented Hype, Take-Two Boss Says
Grand Theft Auto 6's marketing push is set to begin soon, and many are wondering how much Rockstar and Take-Two actually have to do to promote the game given the unprecedented levels of hype behind it. Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick discussed this in an interview, saying "no matter how big a franchise is," marketing remains important, and GTA 6 is no exception. "The consumers need to engage with that prior to release. And I think the motion picture business reflects that as well," Zelnick, a former movie executive, told IGN(https://www.ign.com/articles/take-two-says-all-entertainment-properties-need-pre-release-marketing-as-the-wait-for-gta-6-trailer-3-goes-on?taid=d32c4afa-91e1-4961-99ef-82b6252fdc9a&utmcampaign=trueAnthem:+Manual&utmmedium=trueAnthem&utmsource=twitter). He cited the Mission: Impossible series as an example. It's a famous franchise, but the studio behind would still "spend a whole lot of money" marketing the sequels "even though we kind of know what we're going to get." "Marketing is still an important part of any entertainment release," he said. He didn't comment specifically on GTA 6, saying Rockstar itself will make its own announcements later on. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/GTA6.png?w=1024) GTA 6's marketing push is set to begin this summer, so it could happen anytime now. Before this, Zelnick said promoting GTA 6 will be a “challenge”(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-has-enormous-hype-behind-it-but-marketing-it-is-still-a-challenge-exec-says/1100-6537946/) because Rockstar and Take-Two want to be “delicate” with how they push the game. “It has to feel like, you know, this is real. We’re not selling hamburgers. We’re selling this unique art form,” he said. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC edition has not been confirmed, but history suggests it will come later(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-gta-6-is-not-coming-to-pc-at-launch-and-its-not-due-to-a-playstation-deal/1100-6539775/). GTA 6 is expected to sell 40 million copies and drive more than $3 billion in revenue(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-5-could-make-3-billion-in-first-year-alone/1100-6528605/) during its first year. GTA 6 has enormous shoes to fill, as predecessor GTA 5 has sold more than 230 million copies(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/top-10-best-selling-video-games-of-all-time/2900-4814/) and generated tons more money from GTA Online. Developer Rockstar has yet to announce a price point, but Zelnick recently said the game will be price at a “reasonable” level(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-price-commented-on-by-rockstars-owner/1100-6539688/), whatever that means.
Asus Reveals ROG Xbox Ally X20 With OLED Screen, Upgraded Joysticks, And Transparent Shell
!Asus ROG Xbox Ally X20 OLED Screen Transparent Shell Bundle 2026 (https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/01/b989cd08/asusxboxallyx20.jpg.webp) Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG, lol) has announced(https://rog.asus.com/us/gaming-handhelds/rog-ally/rog-xbox-ally-x20-bundle-2026/) the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a new version of the ROG Xbox Ally X(https://www.gameinformer.com/2025/08/20/xbox-reveals-rog-xbox-ally-x-handheld-release-date-but-not-price-due-to-macro-economic) that launched last year, featuring a larger now-OLED screen, tunneling magnetoresistance joysticks, and a transparent shell. It will still feature the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 extreme processor that makes last year's ROG Xbox Ally X the handheld powerhouse it is, but this X20 device is likely to cost you a lot more. That's because it will only be available as a bundle alongside the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses. There's no confirmed price for this bundle, nor is there a release date yet, but considering those glasses cost roughly $850 on their own, this bundle is likely to easily clear $2000 – here's hoping they de-bundle the X20 device from the glasses one day. Here's a look at the two devices together in the bundle: !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/01/98ded4f9/rogxboxallyx20bundle3drenderscenariophotorogwallpaperproduct.jpg.webp) This X20 marks the first time Asus has deployed an OLED panel in one of its handheld devices, and it's an exciting upgrade to the portable PC. That said, the new TMR joysticks are a nice improvement, and if you're into the retro-style transparent shells, that's a nice addition too. There are also gold accents built into the device to celebrate 20 years of ROG, and it features a "transforming d-pad" to switch between 4-directional and 8-directional input. The rear of the handgrips will feature a rubberized coating, similar to that found on the Xbox Elite Series controllers. If you aren't familiar with the XREAL glasses, basically, you connect them to your device (the X20 in this case) via a cord, and the handheld's screen is projected into the glasses, giving you a virtual 171-inch screen with a 240Hz display – it's a cool effect and works quite well. Considering Asus' 20th anniversary is this year, it's likely this bundle will be released in 2026, but there's no definitive word on launch price or date. Do you think this is a good upgrade to last year's Xbox ROG Ally X? Let us know in the comments below!

The Pokémon Company Has Announced a 30th Celebration TCG Set, And It'll Probably Be A Pain To Get Your Hands On
!Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration Anniversary Booster Packs Foil Cards(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/01/55fdeb02/pokemon30thtcg.jpg.webp) The Pokémon Company has revealed a brand-new trading card game set for the 30th Anniversary of Pokémon and it's appropriately called "30th Celebration." Every card in the pack will be foil, making it quite a special set, alongside 30 new Pikachu illustrations, new "futuristic rare cards featuring Mewtwo and Mew art by Yoshirotten," and the return of classic cards alongside new Pokémon EX cards. Every card will feature a special 30th Anniversary symbol, similar to the 25th Anniversary symbol, when the set launches simultaneously worldwide on September 16. I don't know about you, but as someone who has dropped out of the Pokémon TCG collecting game myself but still tries to buy packs for his nephew, it's rough out there – totally-not-scalpers line up at my local Walmart and TCG stores hours before the unaware card restocker arrives, and then a bunch of grown men (and the occasional sweet grandparent trying to secure some fun for their grandchildren) become animals over cardboard. It's a genuine shame what the hype (see: monetary value) behind Pokémon TCG has done to the hobby for genuine fans and collectors, and I'm sure this 30th Celebration will be a victim of it as well... but we'll see. Check out the Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration trailer below for a look at some of the cards and new art: February 27 this year marked 30 years of Pokémon, as that's when Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green launched in Japan in 1996, and to celebrate the occasion, The Pokémon Company launched Pokémon Legends: Z-A(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/pokemon-legends-z-a/maintaining-rank) back in October before announcing Generation 10 in Pokémon Winds and Waves on Pokémon Day(https://www.gameinformer.com/pokemon-presents/2026/02/27/pokemon-winds-and-waves-is-arriving-next-year) earlier this year. This 30th Celebration TCG set is the latest way The Pokémon Company is celebrating the anniversary. Do you have luck finding Pokémon boosters in stores? Let us know in the comments below!

🎮 Multi-platformProduct Placement Can Help Save The AAA Games Business, Former BioWare Dev Says
Former BioWare veteran Mark Darrah has weighed in with his thoughts on what the AAA video game business can do to make more money and become more sustainable: sell product placement. In a video on his YouTube channel(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oyf7ErwlNUY&t=2s), Darrah said the fascination with live-service games and "over-reliance on microtransactions" is stopping other genres from flourishing. Development budgets keep going up and up, and without an increase to the current $70 going rate for new releases, developers could look to product placement to help make money, Darrah said. He said the live-action Smurfs movie "paid for itself entirely through product placement," and he wonders if product placement could become a bigger deal for games. "So, is there an opportunity for games to take a step back and think about different ways that we could make money? I think there is," Darrah said. "Product placement is a very small part of video games right now compared to movies and television. Maybe it could be a larger part of development. Maybe there are relationships there to be formed." Product placement in video games does already exist, and a recent high-profile example was 007 First Light, which featured many famous real-world brands(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/007-first-light-continues-bond-franchise-tradition-of-product-placement/1100-6532323/) just like the movies do. The game's budget is unknown, but a recent report said it was the most expensive piece of entertainment ever made in Denmark(https://nyheder.tv2.dk/tech/2026-05-21-dansk-firma-laver-rekorddyrt-james-bond-spil). !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Screenshot-2026-06-01-at-9.40.46-AM.png) Mario Kart 8, meanwhile, featured a Mercedes-Benz partnership, while Alan Wake had Verizon and Energizer in-game product placement. Death Stranding featured Monster Energy drinks in the game. Beyond product placement opportunities, a Bank of America stock analyst has said GTA 6 should cost $80(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-should-be-80-and-other-companies-should-raise-prices-too-bank-of-america-says/1100-6539759/) to help encourage other companies to raise prices to help with the sustainability issue. Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick said major new releases have actually come down in price over the years(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-price-commented-on-by-rockstars-owner/1100-6539688/) when you consider how inflation has affected pretty much everything else you buy these days. Games have held steady in the $60-$70 range for 10 years, and that “doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” according to Zelnick. "Everything can't be a live-service" Darrah went on to say that no one wants to see a video game industry dominated by live-service games. "Everything can't be a live-service, which is something I hope we've proven pretty definitively over the past year and a half, and if monetization is coming predominantly from live-services, we run the risk of living in a world where there are no AAA games that aren't live-services. And I don't think that's a world that any of us want to live in," he said. Also during the video, Darrah said PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass are not doing all that much for developers in terms of money, and that developers taking deals to come to either program could encourage "degenerative design in order to try to juice the numbers."

Tekken 8 Director Kohei Ikeda Leaves Bandai Namco After 20 Years, Six Months After Longtime Series Producer Departed
!Tekken 8 Katsuhiro Harada Kohei Ikeda Bandai Namco(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/01/3984e8c0/Tekken%208%20Duo.jpg.webp) Longtime Tekken leader Kohei Ikeda, who most recently directed Tekken 8(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/tekken-8), has announced(https://x.com/nktdreamer/status/2061296807259595212?s=20) he is departing from Bandai Namco after 20 years at the company. This news follows the departure of veteran Tekken director and producer Katsuhiro Harada(https://www.gameinformer.com/2025/12/08/longtime-tekken-director-and-producer-katsuhiro-harada-is-leaving-bandai-namco) in December, marking a significant shift in Tekken's leadership. As for why, Ikeda's announcement doesn't delve into that, instead focusing on the history that comes with 20 years at Bandai Namco, and offering a word of support to those he is passing the Tekken baton to. "I am deeply proud that I had the opportunity to create games alongside such incredible people who poured their hearts into this work," Ikeda writes. "While my role leading the team as Game Director is coming to a close, the values that both I personally and the Tekken Project have always cherished – staying close to the fans and the community and building the game together with everyone – will never change. I have entrusted those values, and that baton, to the incredible team that will continue shaping the future of Tekken. As I look forward to the future of Tekken and the FGC, I will also continue taking on new challenges as a game developer."
