🖥 PC, Multi-platformThe Expanse RPG Recasts Its Protagonist After Player Complaints
Owlcat Games—the studio behind upcoming RPG The Expanse: Osiris Reborn(https://www.gamespot.com/games/the-expanse-osiris-reborn/)—has announced plans to recast the actor voicing its male protagonist, after players complained about a perceived lack of emotion in his voice during the game's beta test last month(https://www.gamespot.com/videos/the-expanse-osiris-reborn-beta-hands-on-a-rough-landing/2300-6466829/). "While the voice actor for the male protagonist and J put in a lot of good work, they felt less expressive than we wanted," Owlcat Games shared in a blog post on Osiris Reborn's Steam page(https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3727390/view/692009977210994833). "Because of this, we are changing the voices of the male protagonist and J." In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, players can create their own player character (simply named "You" in the beta) and customize their gender, appearance, and background (Belter, Earther, or Martian). The player-character also has a twin sibling, J, who is voiced by the same actor who voices the protagonist. Based on Owlcat's statements, it seems that only the male protagonist (and thus the male version of J) are being recast, while the actor voicing the female protagonist (and the female version of J) is sticking around. Interestingly, player feedback in the game's subreddit seems to focus more on the game's need for a dialogue overhaul(https://www.reddit.com/r/TheExpanseRPG/comments/1sst00y/expanseosirisrebornbelterpcsneedadialogue/), some story adjustments(https://www.reddit.com/r/TheExpanseRPG/comments/1tjmev0/itsinterestingthelightertoneisdeliberate/), and changes to the player-character's tone rather than complaints about a specific actor's performance. "Belter Patois is undoubtedly a challenge for the devs but the almost complete lack of Belter slang, the lack of Belter cynicism, and the overly cheery delivery of the voice actors' tone are, in my opinion, awful," one player wrote on reddit(https://www.reddit.com/r/TheExpanseRPG/comments/1sst00y/expanseosirisrebornbelterpcsneedadialogue/) after checking out the beta test. Owlcat didn't share the name of the actor being replaced, nor did they share who will be replacing them (it's possible a replacement hasn't been chosen yet). The studio did say that some of J's voice lines are being reworked regardless of what gender players choose. "We know J's battle cries got a bit repetitive," the dev team shared. "The 'ask' system was still very much a work in progress during the beta, and a full rework has been on our roadmap all along. Still, thank you for pointing it out and sharing your thoughts." The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is currently scheduled to arrive on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X sometime in the Spring of 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-expanse-osiris-reborn-release-window-revealed-alongside-closed-beta-next-month/1100-6539023/).

Eleven Games From The 2026 Six One Indie Showcase We Added To Our Steam Wishlists
!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/05/21/220afe56/sixoneindieheader.jpg.webp) As much as I love a huge showcase reveal for a game I've been looking forward to, there's a special place in my heart for indie game showcases, giving me a look at hidden gems I wasn't aware of. The Six One indie showcase is a great avenue for that, and today's livestream was no exception. The whole event is worth a watch if you're curious(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2b6H2dyUsw) about some unique upcoming indie projects, but these were our favorites. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/3a576119/blueridgehuntingjadecompanykeyartapr22-jademeadows.jpg.webp) Blue Ridge Hunting Developer: Jade Meadows Horror and low-poly aesthetics go together like peanut butter and jelly. This co-op cryptid hunting game marries the two to seemingly great effect while also telling a story about the quest to track down Mothman. It's currently in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign, which you can support here(http://blueridgehunting.com/kickstarter). It also has a demo available right now(https://store.steampowered.com/app/2434930/BlueRidgeHunting/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/9e578be3/feathersedgeclockworkacornkeyart-full2026-04-15-francoisvanniekerk.jpg.webp) Feather’s Edge Developer: Clockwork Acorn This Outersloth-published Metroidvania puts you in the shoes (or talons) of a bird who can shoot across the screen, piercing foes with their beak. It's a unique take on combat, rewarding combos and efficient strikes, and it's got a great cartoony-yet-intricate art style as well. Its playtest is starting soon, and you can sign up to participate on the game's Steam page(https://store.steampowered.com/app/3804760/FeathersEdge/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/c9d3e6fe/thewellsblessingbigstretchkeyart-full15.03.2026-bigstretch.jpg.webp) The Well's Blessing Developer: Big Stretch I simply can't deny this game's vibes. Maybe it's the pixelated 3D graphics, the relaxing soundtrack, or the babbling sound effect that plays during the dialogue. Whatever the case, I just want a minute or two to sit in the world of The Well's Blessing and soak it all in. For now, I guess I'll just add it to my Steam wishlist(https://store.steampowered.com/app/3637250/TheWellsBlessing/) and get hyped for the demo coming on June 3rd. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/fbfe6744/midnighthorde4kkeyartwithlogo-perfornander.jpg.webp) Midnight Horde Developer: Carry Castle To put it simply, Midnight Horde looks like Vampire Survivors if you were doing parkour the whole time. You gain upgrades to your magic abilities to fend off dense waves of enemies, but between encounters, you construct the town's gothic architecture to best support your strategies. I've got no idea how it feels to play, but it looks so bonkers that I can't wait to try it, and I don't have to – there's a demo live right now(https://store.steampowered.com/app/3360800/MidnightHordeDemo/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/6c5c19f0/blocksforbabiesbunksoftinteractivekeyart-full04152026-noahritz.jpg.webp) Blocks for Babies Developer: BunkSoft Interactive I'll admit that sometimes Tetris makes me mad, but I've never thought about shooting the blocks with a gun. If you have, you'll love Blocks for Babies, a game with as much tonal whiplash with its theme as it has in its gameplay. Match bright, silly blocks until you can't anymore. Then, you transition into a Doom-style FPS to blast away the squares (which are fleshy and gross on the sides, by the way) that refuse to clear away. If you want to check it out, there's a demo available now(https://store.steampowered.com/app/2776770/BlocksforBabies/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/069b260c/forkliftflowerpotmichaelmatokeyart-full04-17-2026-michaelmato.jpg.webp) Forklift Flowerpot: Botanical Investigator Developer: Michael Mato, Too Much Tomato Inhabiting this game's titular contraption is odd enough, but throw in a 3D art style made from 2D sprites, a season-changing mechanic, and a mystery pieced together like a web of red yarn on a corkboard, and Forklift Flowerpot really grabbed my attention. The developer describing it as "an Outer Wilds-like mystery" is the icing on the cake that made me add this one to my wishlist(https://store.steampowered.com/app/2073330/FORKLIFTFLOWERPOTBotanicalInvestigator/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/2b70b87a/graytailconcodekeyart-full04152026-devconcode.jpg.webp) Graytail Developer: Concode The trailer for this game aired during the block dedicated to Zelda-likes, so I was surprised to see its aesthetics fit more of a horror-noir vibe. You play as a man with what looks like a decidedly mundane arsenal of weapons and tools, including a cane, an umbrella, and a crossbow. As someone who plays a lot of games, I really enjoy seeing one that defies genre in so many ways, so I'll be keeping an eye on Graytail. Luckily for me, there's a demo available now(https://store.steampowered.com/app/2888960/Graytail/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/969a3af3/pleaseinsertdiscnightsignalentertainmentkeyart4-15-2026-nicklives.jpg.webp) Please Insert Disc Developer: Night Signal Entertainment What if the liminal ether that is the PS2 startup screen was an entire game? Please Insert Disc reimagines a 2002-era gaming home screen as an interactive horror experience, with a fittingly cryptic trailer that leaves me endlessly curious for what else the final game has in store. For now, I'll add it to my wishlist(https://store.steampowered.com/app/2855360/PleaseInsertDisc/) and hope to learn more soon. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/6635263a/sloppyforgeriesplayfulsystemskeyart-full04-14-26-jonahwarren.jpg.webp) Sloppy Forgeries Developer: Playful Systems Sloppy Forgeries turns paintings into a party game, with local multiplayer that puts players head-to-head as they rush to recreate famous works of art as accurately as possible. Both you and a rival will wield a mouse to repaint iconic paintings like the Mona Lisa or Starry Night with hasty pixels. It looks like the kind of game I love, where even if you do poorly, it's funny enough that it's easy to have fun with. I'll be adding it my wishlist(https://store.steampowered.com/app/3030560/SloppyForgeries/) and looking to buy a second mouse. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/af5683b8/b-e-e-t-l-eberightbackpaulandvivkeyart-full14042026-paulandviv.jpg.webp) b-e-e-t-l-e: be right back! Developer: Paul and Viv I have a hunch b-e-e-t-l-e isn't going to come to console any time soon, because its core gameplay is designed around creative use of the keyboard. You'll type letters to interact with the world, play music, clear obstacles, and talk to other pixelated critters. A different puzzle even makes use of keyboard shortcuts, using ctrl+c to copy an item to share with some snails. It's got no launch window, but you can wishlist it on Steam(https://store.steampowered.com/app/3993200/beetleberightback/). !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/thumbnail/public/2026/05/21/b0036b61/graveseasonsperfectgarbagekeyart-full04152026-alannasmith.jpg.webp) Grave Seasons Developer: Perfect Garbage We did a deep-dive interview with the developers of Grave Seasons in the last issue of Game Informer(https://gameinformer.com/feature/2026/05/12/reaping-sowing), and this new trailer shows the cozy/creepy vibe just as unsettling as we remembered. The standout news here, however, is the announcement that the game is getting a demo in just a few weeks, on June 15, so keep an eye on the Steam page(https://store.steampowered.com/app/3255110/GraveSeasons/). Quantic Dream’s Spellcasters Chronicles Will Shut Down Next Month
!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/05/21/26b8e466/specllasterschroniclesscreen2.jpg.webp) Quantic Dream has announced that its fantasy multiplayer game Spellcasters Chronicles is being shut down next month. The game launched into Steam Early Access on February 26, less than four months ago. In an X post(https://x.com/quanticdream/status/2057114218537644158?s=46) published yesterday, the team behind Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain cites that the game failed to reach a large enough audience for its development to remain sustainable “in today’s particularly challenging market environment.” Thus, the team decided to sunset the game to refocus on other projects. Quantic Dream makes a point of specifically calling out its long-in-development Star Wars Eclipse(https://gameinformer.com/the-game-awards-2021/2021/12/09/quantic-dreams-star-wars-eclipse-announced), still reportedly years from release(https://gameinformer.com/2026/04/07/quantic-dreams-star-wars-eclipse-is-reportedly-still-years-off), stating that the game is “not affected by this decision.” > Update on the Development of Spellcasters Chronicles pic.twitter.com/v3R7rCEjay(https://t.co/v3R7rCEjay) > > — Quantic Dream (@QuanticDream) May 20, 2026(https://twitter.com/QuanticDream/status/2057114218537644158?refsrc=twsrc%5Etfw) Spellcasters Chronicles will remain playable until June 19, but it has already been made unavailable to download on Steam; it appears players who have already installed the game can still access it. Money spent during its lifecycle will be eligible for a full refund upon request, and additional details will be shared in the game’s official Discord and other channels. Quantic Dream also says that this move will prompt an “internal reorganization,” with the team's verbiage suggesting potential layoffs. “We are fully committed to handling this transition with fairness, care, and respect, and will prioritize internal reassignments wherever possible to support other productions.” Game Developer reports(https://www.gamedeveloper.com/business/quantic-dream-cutting-jobs-after-scrapping-spellcasters-chronicles) today that French union Le Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) has blasted Quantic Dream’s management of the game, calling the project a “colossal risk” whose failure could impact 95 roles at the company. Part of STJV’s lengthy statement(https://www.stjv.fr/en/2026/05/spellcasters-canceled-and-layoffs-at-quantic-dream-who-could-possibly-have-foreseen-this/) reads, “Officially, the 'unstable and difficult market' is being blamed for this decision – but it was hardly difficult to predict. This project, started 8 years ago and led by Guillaume de Fondaumière, David Cage and Grégorie Diaconu, was supposed to be a “reasonably-sized” project and was planned for a much earlier release. Over all these years, nobody questioned the business model or how the game was to become profitable. Catastrophic project management resulted in iteration after iteration, exhausting the team and leading production straight to disaster. Quantic Dream leadership points to external factors; we blame their decisions, be they financial, creative or organisational. The resulting project was ungodly expensive and aimed at a high-risk market, without matching current player demands.” Spellcasters Chronicles was revealed in October 2025 and is a free-to-play competitive multiplayer game in which two teams of three face off in matches using magic-wielding, hero-style characters. You can read our full preview published last October(https://gameinformer.com/2025/10/16/quantic-dream-is-making-spellcasters-chronicles-a-multiplayer-game-heres-what-we-think) for a better idea of Quantic Dream’s vision. The game launched into Early Access on February 26 and is the latest multiplayer live-service game to be shuttered only months after debuting. It follows in the footsteps of infamous launches such as Concord(https://gameinformer.com/state-of-play/2024/05/30/playstation-reveals-first-look-at-concords-5v5-fps-gameplay-out-this)’s barely two-week lifecycle in 2024. In 2026, we've seen the quick demises of Highguard(https://gameinformer.com/review/highguard/promising-contender), which launched in January and went offline in March(https://gameinformer.com/2026/03/03/highguard-is-shutting-down-for-good-next-week), and PUBG: Blindspot(https://gameinformer.com/2026/02/04/pubg-blindspot-a-free-to-play-5v5-tactical-shooter-spinoff-is-now-available-in-steam), a game that entered Early Access in February and was discontinued in March.

Piloting mechs appears to be a big part of the game, but not all of it. Players will be able to fight outside their mechs as well while utilizing P.A.I.N.T. bombs, Holojumps, wallruns, and grappling hooks to quickly travel across the map. 1047 Games calls it a "movement shooter." According to the game's official description, two playable mechs will spawn on the map, each with its own armaments and abilities. Players who can get to one of the mechs first will have a distinct advantage over their opponents. But it's also possible for a squad to take down a mech and reclaim the momentum in a fight. 🖥 PC, Multi-platformMina The Hollower Is Creating An Unexpected Problem For Other Games
Yacht Club Games' Shovel Knight(https://www.gamespot.com/games/shovel-knight/) is one of the most widely-loved platformers out there. With almost 10,000 "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam, it's not hard to see why game developers are pushing their release dates either side of YCG's upcoming action platformer Mina the Hollower(https://www.gamespot.com/games/mina-the-hollower/), especially games in a similar genre. Borbware's Emuurom(https://www.gamespot.com/games/emuurom/)was originally set for a May 29 release date, the same day as Mina, but in a video posted to YouTube, the studio explained that the game will now be released slightly earlier, on May 25. "We have no other choice but to change the launch date," the video says. Devolver Digital has now also posted a similar video, this time postponing the launch of Dark Scrolls(https://www.gamespot.com/games/dark-scrolls/) to June 22. "Originally, we were going to release Dark Scrolls on May 28, but it turns out we're going to be a little bit busy playing Mina the Hollower when it comes out on May 29 because we have our priorities in the right place, and I already requested it off from work," the video explains. https://youtu.be/FAYdhfKOjw As Yacht Club Games' David D'Angelo explained to GameSpot, though, there was originally supposed to be a little more direct collaboration between the games. "We worked with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo to try to make sure we picked a date that didn't conflict with anyone, and we landed on 12 AM ET May 29. I guess that didn't help! "We were already in discussion with Devolver and the Dark Scrolls team for a month or so about how our releases were coming up and a Steam Bundle might be cool to help promote the launches. They announced their date on May 5; we announced on May 6. Then mid email chain discussing the bundles, we realized we had essentially picked the same release date...which I followed up by sending profuse apologies to Doinksoft for screwing up. And they were totally cool with it, talked, and decided to push theirs back. "They said it was nice to have a little breathing room since they were going to be at Bitsummit anyway. And they wanted to play Mina on day one." The imminent arrival of Mina the Hollower comes after the game's successful Kickstarter campaign raised over $1.4 million. It was originally set to release in October 2025, but was delayed in order to allow the team to "apply some more polish and balancing."

🖥 PC, Multi-platformLords of the Fallen 2's Epic Exclusivity Deal Canceled
In 2024, developer CI Games signed a deal with Epic Games that would have made the Epic Game Store the exclusive PC outlet for the upcoming Lords of the Fallen 2(https://www.gamespot.com/games/lords-of-the-fallen-ii/). Now, the agreement between Epic and Ci Games has been terminated. CI Games has taken the unusual step of posting its separation agreement(https://cigames.com/en/ci-games-se-20-2026-disclosure-of-confidential-information-regarding-the-conclusion-of-separation-agreement-with-epic-games-inc/) with Epic Games, which was apparently settled on April 14. The document explains that the delay in revealing its existence was because it would have "prejudiced the company's legitimate interests" if it had been released any sooner. It also describes the breakup as "conditional in nature," and it doesn't elaborate any further on the reasons Epic and CI Games parted ways. The separation agreement explicitly states that it won't affect the Epic assets that were used in the creation of Lords of the Fallen 2, including Unreal Engine 5 and any infrastructure that was built into the game to utilize Epic Online Services.
