🖥 PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Multi-platformAMD’s FSR Upscaling 4.1 Comes To Older GPUs, Steam Machine And Xbox ROG Ally Support On The Way
AMD has announced that owners of RDNA 3 GPUs can now enjoy the benefits offered by its latest version of AI-powered upscaling, FSR 4.1. This comes a few weeks earlier than its July estimate, with the promise for more devices down the line, too. FSR Upscaling 4.1 functions similarly to other upscaling technologies on the market, and comes much closer to the performance and quality of Nvidia's market-leading DLSS than previous iterations. It's the same technology that underpins the PlayStation 5 Pro's PSSR 2(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-pros-upgraded-pssr-is-rolling-out-today-here-are-the-first-games-getting-it/1100-6538811/), with Sony layering on its own work on top of what AMD has engineering here. https://twitter.com/jackhuynh/status/2069059207383720091 The upscaling suite was previously exclusive to the company's latest GPUs, the RX 9070 and 9070 XT, but will now be available to many, many more RDNA 3 GPUs, such as the popular 7800XT and XTX. You'll need the latest version of AMD's Adrenalin software, which you can grab here(https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/release-notes/RN-RAD-WIN-26-6-2.html). Devices with RDNA 3.5 APUs, such as Valve's Steam Machine(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machine-price-and-release-date-officially-confirmed-by-valve/) and the Xbox ROG Ally X, will eventually get FSR 4.1 support, with AMD working on lightweight AI models specific to the lower memory bandwidth of these and similar devices. AMD has also committed to supporting even older RDNA 2 cards with FSR 4.1 sometime in 2027. That, unfortunately, isn't likely to include the one in Valve's Steam Deck, which might have given more life to the aging, and now more expensive(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-deck-gets-massive-price-hike/), handheld gaming PC.

🟩 Xbox, Multi-platformDeath Stranding Movie Is A “Two-Hour Art Movie,” Kojima Says, Admitting It Might Not Work
Hideo Kojima has shared new insight into the Death Stranding movie, while director Michael Sarnoski has revealed a key detail about it as well. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly(https://ew.com/xbox-25th-anniversary-hollywood-adaptations-cover-story-exclusive-12003252), Kojima said he wanted to "try a different path" with the adaptation of Death Stranding for film. That path, he said, is to make a "two-hour art movie" as opposed to re-telling the story of the games. Kojima admitted this plan might not work. "I don't know if this will be successful, but that's the goal," he said. The Death Stranding movie is in the works at A24, which just reached an AI-training deal with Google,(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/elden-ring-death-stranding-movie-studio-gets-75-million-from-google-for-ai-research-report-says/) and is also behind the Elden Ring film from director Alex Garland. Sarnoski, who earned acclaim for directing the movie Pig starring Nicolas Cage and later made A Quiet Place: Day One, told The Hollywood Reporter(https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/death-of-robin-hood-michael-sarnoski-1236625837/) that Death Stranding is his next project. Sarnoski, who is also writing the script, said he's still working on the script, but he's confirmed it's the next movie he'll direct "for sure." Sarnoski's latest project was The Death of Robin Hood, which stars Hugh Jackman as Robin Hood and released on June 19. The Death Stranding movie doesn't have a cast, release date, or any other concrete information yet. However, Sarnoski previously talked about how the film will feature characters not seen in the game, but with the overall aim of "keeping it honest to the game." Kojima himself was approached to direct the Death Stranding movie(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/death-stranding-movie-could-have-been-directed-by-kojima-himself/1100-6534300/), but he declined. Kojima won’t be “involved too much” because if he were, he said he would “start saying a lot of things.” Kojima is also working on a new game for Xbox called OD, and a new screenshot was shared in the Entertainment Weekly story linked above.

🖥 PC, Multi-platformThe Internet Has Some Thoughts On The Steam Machine’s $1,000+ Price
Valve has officially announced the Steam Machine's price(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machine-price-and-release-date-officially-confirmed-by-valve/), and if you're looking to get one of the not-consoles(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machine-is-not-a-console-valve-says/?thumbnailid=1799073) when they launch on June 30, you're going to have to spend over $1,000 at minimum. As you can probably guess, eager players on the internet were not exactly thrilled by that news, and they let their voices be heard on social media. Some questioned if the Steam Machine should even be released at all at this point, pointing to the massive price tag that was required as AI puts a strain on the hardware supply chain. https://twitter.com/MischiefsYT/status/2069109998882345354 And with the Steam Machine serving as a type of PC more than a traditional console, others questioned why someone would pay such a high price when building a custom PC would be cheaper. https://twitter.com/kishswim/status/2069110413782855948 YouTuber SpawnWave was perhaps even more blunt with his assessment, believing the system is so expensive may effectively have no audience. https://twitter.com/SpawnWaveMedia/status/2069126457108910157 One Twitter user pointed to the trend we've seen with consoles in years past, with more accessible systems often performing better commercially than the more-expensive alternatives. The Sega Nomad, for those too young to remember, literally played Sega Genesis games on the go, yet no one talks about it today. https://twitter.com/OctorokR/status/2069117845129343447 And as we approach the inevitable PS6 and Microsoft's Project Helix, others pointed out that we may be looking at a sign of things to come. The days of $500 consoles, at launch or otherwise, are likely long gone. https://twitter.com/GameRiot/status/2069114442734784591 The Steam Machine officially releases on June 30, with preorders beginning on June 25. A waitlist is available(https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steammachine) for a chance to order one.
🖥 PC, Multi-platformSupergirl’s Milly Alcock Reacts To Seeing Her Fortnite Skin
Epic Games is teaming up with DC and Warner Bros. to bring Milly Alcock's Supergirl to Fortnite, alongside her cute little pooch Krypto. Epic has posted a video showing Alcock's reaction to seeing her Supergirl outfit in the game. "I think it's pretty cool," she said. While she's excited to see her Supergirl come to Fortnite, she thinks her canine companion will steal the show. "I think I will soon be forgotten and Krypto will reign," she said. Alcock also had a plea for people playing Fortnite with her Supergirl skin: "Make sure I win in the game when you play with me. Do me proud." https://twitter.com/Fortnite/status/2069140977491779691 Supergirl and Krypto come to Fortnite later this week, just in time for Supergirl's release in theaters on June 26. A Fortnite skin based on David Corenswet's Superman(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/you-can-take-supermans-power-in-fortnite-starting-this-weekend/1100-6533087/) was added to the game last year for the 2025 Superman movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJNjhV5o5qs In other Fortnite news, The Simpsons are returning to Fortnite--and in a big way. Later this year, Epic will add UEFN support for The Simpsons, allowing people to create maps and modes using officially licensed The Simpsons assets. As you can imagine, the first thing people will probably do is try to make Hit & Run(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/fortnite-will-let-you-make-the-simpsons-games-and-you-can-bet-someone-will-make-hit-run/).

🖥 PC, Multi-platformValve Is Making It Easier To Build Your Own Steam Machine
The specs and pricing for Steam Machine(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machine-price-and-release-date-officially-confirmed-by-valve/) have been revealed, and the preorders are opening soon. But if you'd rather sidestep that headache and build your own Steam Machine, Valve is officially making it easier for players to do so. While speaking with The Verge(https://www.theverge.com/games/953411/valve-steamos-desktop-nvidia), Valve's Pierre-Loup Griffais confirmed that the recently launched SteamOS 3.8.10 is part of the company's ongoing attempts to make the Steam operating system "more compatible with desktop hardware." That includes "improved compatibility" with the most recent Intel and AMD platforms. "If you have something that is similar to the use case of a Steam Machine, where you have a PC that's gonna be plugged into a TV, and has a single hard drive that you’re not going to try and dual boot … you can put SteamOS on there, and you'll have an experience that is very similar to a Steam Deck docked or a Steam Machine," said Griffais. "With some caveats, of course ... The core bits of the experience are there. The SteamOS graphics driver, the shader precompilation … you can get at all of that with the SteamOS." However, SteamOS doesn't currently support Nvidia drivers. Griffais noted that Valve and Nvidia are "collaborating ... very closely" on the issue, but compatibility with SteamOS may not be ready to go this year. Building a high-end PC on par with Steam Machine may not be much cheaper than the $1,049 for the 512GB model. But players' custom builds can potentially address some of Steam Machine's shortcomings(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machine-impressions-a-tiny-box-with-big-trade-offs/) in terms of video memory and graphical power. In response to the chaotic launch of Steam Controller preorders, Valve is trying a new procedure with Steam Machine(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machines-preorder-process-is-a-response-to-longstanding-disasters/). After the initial reservation list is closed on June 25, Valve will send out randomized invites to get a Steam Machine to discourage bots and resellers.

🖥 Steam Deck, PC, Multi-platformThe Steam Machine’s Original Price Would’ve Given Valve’s Machine A Much Better Shot
Valve's Steam Machine finally has a price, and its far steeper than anyone was likely imagining. That goes for Valve, too, with the company indicating that its original target was significantly less, and would've made a lot more sense for the hardware on offer. Speaking to both IGN(https://www.ign.com/articles/the-steam-machine-was-originally-meant-to-cost-about-750) and Aftermath(https://aftermath.site/steam-machine-review-price/), engineers from Valve indicated that the Steam Machine's price increased similarly to that of the Steam Deck(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-deck-gets-massive-price-hike/), whose own price was increased by around 35% for the base model (and closer to 50% for the 1TB versions). Assuming Valve is talking about the lower figure of the two, some quick math suggests that the Steam Machine was likely originally priced at or around $750, a figure that was widely guessed at the time. But that was in November 2025, when the now-apocalyptic RAM crisis was just starting. Since then, memory prices have surged globally(https://www.glukhov.org/hardware/memory/ram-price-increase/). The United States of America has fared best, with an average 163% increase, while other regions, like Japan and the UK, have seen increases of 619% and 219% respectively, Regardless of where you live, building a PC has become prohibitively expensive, with few signs suggesting that is changing soon. And unfortunately for Valve, it got caught in the storm at the exact wrong time. The Steam Machine was never expected to be a cheap device. Even Valve has played down console comparisons(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-machine-is-not-a-console-valve-says/), pointing towards its ability to be a fully featured desktop PC along with a living room gaming device. But at over $1,000 for its entry-level model (which ships without a controller), it has become an expensive luxury that struggles to justify its cost through performance alone. As Digital Foundry(https://www.digitalfoundry.net/reviews/steam-machine-beautiful-hardware-console-performance-at-a-price) breaks down in its extensive performance review, the Steam Machine struggles to keep up with the base PS5 in many games tested, while just equaling it in others. There's caveats to those results (consoles have settings that PCs sometimes can't replicate, for example), but you can expect to have a similar game-playing experience to a PS5 that costs, right now, half the price of the Steam Machine. And if you want some extra graphical grunt, the PS5 Pro is a much more powerful platform, and still cheaper. At an original price of $750, the Steam Machine made a lot more sense. Valve's Steam Machine isn't a console. It isn't subsidized as one. It can do a lot more than any on the market, too. But it's also an expensive way to play PC games, and one that doesn't make as much sense anymore in the current market.
