🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platformMarvel’s Wolverine Has Given Us Sony’s Best-Looking PS5 Ever
Marvel's Wolverine(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/marvels-wolverine-gameplay-platforms-and-everything-we-know/1100-6516081/) launches next month, and to celebrate, Sony has revealed a new limited-edition PS5 console and controller design inspired by the game. Dubbed the Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle and priced at $650, fans of the Marvel mutant can choose between a PS5 Digital Edition that comes with both a matching DualSense wireless controller and a download code for the game, or they can pick up the $75 console covers for their base model PS5 and the PS5 Pro. Sony says that these will be available through the PlayStation Direct store, as well as through select retailers starting September 15, the same day that Marvel's Wolverine launches. https://youtu.be/9KDStKJtMZY The design includes a striking yellow finish, as well as an illustration of Wolverine by Jock, the graphic artist who has worked on numerous comic books over the years and film projects like 2012's Dredd. His design includes exposed claw marks that reveal the PS5 console chassis, and the overall look is inspired by the "Battle Reborn" costume that Wolverine wears in the field. The $85 DualSense controller also ties into that aesthetic, and it will be available as a standalone purchase. "I wanted to show Wolverine at his fiercest for Marvel’s Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Console bundle and accessories. I still draw all my artwork traditionally, so the opportunity to marry cutting-edge hardware with the energy and looseness of hand-drawn ink is incredibly exciting. I’m stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing, bringing Wolverine to life in a completely unique way." !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-10.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-1.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-9.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-7.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-8.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-2.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-3.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-4.jpg?w=636) !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Marvel-Wolverine-5.jpg?w=636) If that design is a little too yellow for you, there's an alternate PS5 Pro console cover and DualSense controller that features the same illustration on a silver background, emulating the unbreakable adamantium that coats Wolverine's bones. It won't make your PS5 unbreakable since it's made out of plastic, so try to avoid stress-testing the cover. Compared to the PS4 generation, Sony has released far fewer limited-edition PS5 consoles. Most of these designs have also been very underwhelming, with the Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Ghost of Yotei editions being either very subtle with their designs or too flashy--with the sole exception being the classy PlayStation 30th anniversary PS5 consoles(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-30th-anniversary-kicks-off-with-nostalgic-ps5-themes-and-the-cranberries/1100-6528157/). In contrast, some of the limited-edition DualSense controllers featured incredible designs that perfectly balanced the unique identity of their video games with distinct designs. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/death-stranding-2-on-the-beach-ps5-limited-edition-dualsense-controller-restock/1100-6531400/), Marathon(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/marathon-dualsense-controller-preorder-guide/1100-6537489/), and Concord's DualSense controllers(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sonys-new-limited-edition-ps5-controller-is-its-best-looking-one-so-far/1100-6525289/) stood out from the pack, and it's a shame that those designs never made it to PS5 consoles.

🎮 Multi-platformUntil Dawn and Directive 8020 Developer Supermassive Games Will Lay Off "Up To 75" People
!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/05/08/027960d7/ss5cba58e6db2df0db2387b89c78ff9ca63c508078.1920x1080.jpg.webp) Supermassive Games, developers of games like Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures Anthology, has announced it's likely letting go of several of its employees. In an image shared to social media(https://x.com/SuperMGames/status/2087142850936885520?s=20), the company made a statement that it has begun a "redundancy consultation process." When it concludes. Supermassive expects to lay off "up to 75" of its employees. You can read the full message below. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/11/33a7f2cb/supermassivelayoffs.jpg.webp)(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/nocompression/public/2026/08/11/33a7f2cb/supermassivelayoffs.jpg.webp) "We have made the difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process, which we anticipate will result in the loss of up to 75 of our colleagues," the statement reads. "This is a necessary step to help ensure the sustainability of the company. We know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone, and our priority throughout the process will be to provide support to all those impacted." Supermassive Games just launched its most recent project, Directive 8020, in May. That game was originally slated for last October, but Supermassive issued a similar statement in July of 2025, delaying Directive 8020 into 2026 and laying off 36 people. And back in February 2024, Bloomberg reported that the company underwent the same process(https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-02-26/british-game-maker-supermassive-set-to-lay-off-90-workers?sp=12b42874-dc64-48b7-96c5-0d9ad246d2d9.1786454671654), cutting roughly 90 jobs. That's roughly 200 jobs in less than three years. None of Supermassive's most recent games, Directive 8020(https://gameinformer.com/review/directive-8020/a-failed-copy), Little Nightmares 3(https://gameinformer.com/review/little-nightmares-iii/a-familiar-dream), or The Casting of Frank Stone(https://gameinformer.com/review/the-casting-of-frank-stone/poor-choices), have been huge critical successes, sitting at 72, 71, and 68 on Metacritic, respectively. Meanwhile, Until Dawn 2 is being developed by a different studio(https://gameinformer.com/state-of-play/2026/06/02/until-dawn-is-getting-a-numbered-sequel). This is the latest in a years-long trend of mass layoffs in the video game industry. Other major examples from 2026 include Battlefield Studios laying people off, even though Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game of 2025(https://gameinformer.com/2026/03/09/battlefield-studios-hit-with-layoffs-months-after-successful-battlefield-6-launch), the decimation of Bungie's Destiny 2 team(https://gameinformer.com/2026/06/25/bungie-is-laying-off-most-of-the-destiny-2-development-team) (and the game's final update), and Microsoft parting ways with several studios, laying off thousands(https://gameinformer.com/2026/07/06/xbox-parts-ways-with-five-studios-over-3000-layoffs-announced).

🎮 Multi-platformHow Students Can Get GTA 6 For $64
Rockstar's GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/) is priced at $80 for the standard edition, but if you're a student who shops at Target and you meet certain eligibility requirements, you can potentially get the game for a nice discount. Target Circle Students members can save 20% on the game's code-in-the-box version, bringing it down to $64 before taxes. Buying the game now via preordering also gets you perks like the Vintage Vice City Pack and a free month of GTA+. The deal was spotted by Wario64(https://x.com/Wario64/status/2086882788767363133). !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-11-at-9.04.52-AM-1.png) Target Circle is free. But to get the deal, you need to verify that you are actually a student(https://www.target.com/help/article/000170252), which involves submitting a school-issued document confirming enrollment. Do that, and you should be eligible for the Target Circle Student offer on GTA 6(https://www.target.com/b/rockstar-games/-/N-4ycrc?sortBy=newest&moveTo=product-list-grid&nrtvcid=7r3aqd6ci3gaj&clkid=3c6fe994N8f5711f19db9dba8c97467e1&cpng=PTID3&TCID=AFL-3c6fe994N8f5711f19db9dba8c97467e1-376373&afsrc=1&lnm=201333&afid=Howl%20Technologies%2C%20Inc.&ref=tgtadvxasd0002) for either PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. GTA 6's $100 edition is not available in stores, so if you want that version, you have to pay full price for a digital copy. Get GTA 6 at Target(https://www.target.com/p/grand-theft-auto-vi/-/A-1012260588) GTA 6's $80 price point is fair for what's being offered(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/take-two-defends-gta-6s-80-price-calls-it-phenomenal-value/), Take-Two has said. It's $10 more than the going rate for other AAA games, but one stock analyst believes Rockstar going with $80 may help encourage other developers to follow suit(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-should-be-80-and-other-companies-should-raise-prices-too-bank-of-america-says/1100-6539759/). It's also not the first high-profile $80 game, as Nintendo charges $80 for Mario Kart World. For comparison, GTA 5’s base edition launched in 2013 at $60. That same amount of money in 2026 dollars would be more than $85 due to inflation. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It's expected to be 2026's biggest hit and one of the most successful games ever.

🎮 Multi-platformGTA 6 Could Have Had An Even Higher Price, As $100 Edition Proves Popular
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has acknowledged that the company could have charged more for Grand Theft Auto 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/), but it declined to do so to ensure pricing felt fair. He also shared new insight into how GTA 6 preorders(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-preorder-numbers-wont-be-revealed-because-they-could-be-misleading-take-two-ceo-says/) are going so far, saying they're skewing toward the $100 edition early on. Speaking to CNBC(https://www.cnbc.com/video/2026/08/10/take-two-ceo-strauss-zelnick-on-gta-6-i-believe-we-will-exceed-expectations.html), Zelnick said "most people" felt that Take-Two had a "great deal of pricing power" and could leverage the monumental demand for GTA 6 to charge a higher price to consumers. However, Zelnick said Take-Two decided against this based on its desire to deliver "way more value to the consumer than what we charged." He went on to say the company did not want the game's price point to be out of reach for people. Prior to release, there were numerous headlines about how much GTA 6 might cost, with some saying it even deserved to be $100(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-warrants-a-100-price-tag-gta-5-actor-says/1100-6535876/) based on what it's expected to offer. In the end, Take-Two and Rockstar settled on an $80 price for the standard edition and $100 for a premium version with many digital extras. Some theorized that keeping the GTA 6 price point in the expected range was a deliberate decision to further drive adoption and funnel people into GTA Online, which makes a lot of money via microtransactions. To be sure, Rockstar has not yet said a peep about GTA 6's expected online mode(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/dont-expect-to-hear-about-gta-6s-online-mode-soon/), but it's a safe bet some kind of evolution of GTA Online for GTA 6 is coming. For comparison, GTA 5's base edition launched in 2013 at $60. That same amount of money in 2026 dollars would be more than $85 due to inflation. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-11-at-8.08.31-AM.png?w=636) This car and outfits are preorder bonuses for GTA 6. He said in the interview that GTA 6 preorders so far are "skewing more toward" the $100 edition. Zelnick said this makes sense because people who preorder games right away tend to be "the most avid" consumers who are less price-sensitive. GTA 6 is a digital-only game, but there are reasons to preorder it. The game has multiple preorder bonuses for both editions of the game, including the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes '80s-inspired content like a classic car, special outfits and hairstyles, an exclusive weapon pattern, and a free month of GTA+. Also in the interview, Zelnick was asked if GTA 6 might get a price cut for the holidays. He said retailers are free to charge whatever they want, but he signaled that there will be no official price cut on GTA 6 for some time. "We preserved our pricing on GTA 5 for a very long time," he said, adding Rockstar is known to hold prices steady for longer than other games. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will be shown off in detail on August 27 via Netflix(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-being-paywalled-behind-netflix-is-upsetting-a-lot-of-people-but-its-a-sign-of-the-times/), and the event seems doomed(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/netflix-gta-6-exclusive-seems-doomed/).
