Stalker 2’s First Major Expansion Arrives Very Soon

Stalker 2 has been out for nearly two years, and if you've been itching to jump back into the post-apocalyptic hellscape, you'll have a great reason to do so. The game's first expansion, Stalker 2: Cost of Hope, releases in just a few weeks across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Cost of Hope puts you back in control of Stalker 2 protagonist Skif, with the character following a "mysterious PDA signal" as the dangerous Zone's Duty and Freedom factions come into conflict. GSC Game World promises "dozens of hours of content" along with new allies and enemies, weapons, and locations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5BwA-OUyNY The expansion will launch alongside the base game's Update 2.0, which will include "a new version of Unreal Engine 5" alongside "a variety of new content and improvements." Unlike the expansion itself, this update will be free. Stalker 2: Cost of Hope arrives on August 20. You can watch the release-date trailer above. The game originally launched on PC before coming to Xbox Series X|S and later to PS5. In our Stalker 2 review(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/stalker-2-heart-of-chornobyl-review-in-the-zone/1900-6418320/), Richard Wakeling said, "It doesn't reinvent the wheel, and at times it feels like you're playing a game straight out of 2010, but that's part of the charm and feeds into what makes Stalker 2 the quintessential Stalker experience."

It Feels Wrong For Halo To Feel Better Than Ever On PS5

It Feels Wrong For Halo To Feel Better Than Ever On PS5

There's something that almost feels sacrilegious about playing Halo on a PlayStation console. The sci-fi shooter franchise feels quintessentially Xbox, and while you've been able to play Halo: The Master Chief Collection(https://www.gamespot.com/games/halo-the-master-chief-collection/) on PC with a DualSense controller, there's something extra odd with playing a version of Halo covered in a PlayStation-oriented UI and seeing PlayStation Trophies pop with every completed in-game accomplishment. And yet, despite how weird it is to be playing Halo on a PlayStation 5, it's still Halo. And so it's really fun. (https://www.gamespot.com/videos/halo-campaign-evolved-video-review/) Not to be confused with Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo: Campaign Evolved(https://www.gamespot.com/games/halo-campaign-evolved/) (because why would they make the title acronyms different and make things easier for me?) is a remake of the very first Halo, and it's also the first Halo game to be playable on one of Sony's consoles. Unlike the 2011 remaster Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary--which provided a graphical upgrade and added co-op gameplay and brand-new collectibles like lore-filled terminals and gameplay-modifying skulls--Campaign Evolved is a much more drastic transformation. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ssa05dce36b81730fcd2a4ddd4a1106cfcc74dbf0b.1920x1080.jpg?w=636) In the first Halo game, protagonist John-117, aka the Master Chief, awakens aboard a starship after it's been attacked by an alien alliance known as the Covenant. As a super-soldier called a Spartan, Master Chief is tasked with escaping the doomed ship with its artificial intelligence, Cortana, to a nearby moon-sized ring that humanity has never seen before. Cortana quickly learns that this ring, referred to as Halo, is important to the Covenant, and Master Chief sets out to learn what it is and why the Covenant want it, while also helping the various human survivors who made it to the ring's surface and are contending with Covenant forces. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, Campaign Evolved's visuals are a huge jump from 2001's Combat Evolved. And as the name suggests, the actual story campaign has changed too. There are three brand-new missions that take place one year prior to the events of the main story, the levels in the main story have been redesigned in certain sections in terms of both layout and mission objective, and brand-new cutscenes further flesh out the characters and stories with references that longtime fans will recognize are now early teasers for Halo 2. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ss2fe62cfaa7a8adb888e7ebade63d0b90f02d21d7.1920x1080.jpg?w=636) The gameplay has been overhauled too, implementing changes to make the first Halo play more like Master Chief's later adventures. Some of these changes radically alter how it feels to play the first Halo--like the ability to sprint, or aim down sights on all weapons--while others feel much smaller. A mechanic like vehicle hijacking was not added to Halo until the second game in the series, so its addition in Campaign Evolved is technically new, for example. But vehicle hijacking doesn't feel like an extraordinary game-changer because the number of times you have the opportunity to use it are few and far between. While the much larger (and visually gorgeous) environments, grander firefight arenas, and newly added "hold-the-line" encounters make for an altogether longer game to both explore and fight through, playing Campaign Evolved feels like the memory I have of playing Combat Evolved. The changes to the story and gameplay are noticeable to anyone who has familiarity with the first Halo, but the remake's adjustments don't feel like a complete departure from its source material. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/sscc95b6f904e35874d7ebe088decda1f0d73a3738.1920x1080.jpg?w=636) If anything, Campaign Evolved makes the story of Combat Evolved feel more in line with the lore and overall story developed in the games, books, and animated series that were released after the first Halo. Everything is just better connected--bringing the Brutes into Halo 1 erases the confusion as to why they're in Halo Reach and Halo 2, but not the game that canonically takes place in between them, for instance. And Captain Keyes' daughter, Miranda, is also now mentioned multiple times, setting up her in-game introduction in Halo 2. The original Combat Evolved doesn't acknowledge her existence because she didn't exist when that game was made. But she's now a major part of Halo 2 and Halo 3 (as well as several books) so it makes sense that her dad would at least talk about her in Halo 1. Are any of these details crucial to the story told in the first Halo? No. Do these changes make the overall story of Master Chief's first game better flow into the second? Yes. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ss9470157e11a7b26c49236ed692cf822cb06fc1b4.1920x1080.jpg?w=636) The changes are so much better that Campaign Evolved feels like the new gold standard for playing through the first Halo--I'd recommend this over Combat Evolved Anniversary. Every change feels like an improvement on what came before. While the three new prequel missions don't rise to the same dramatic highs that make the main story of Combat Evolved so memorable, their inclusion does improve the overall experience and I recommend anyone who picks up Campaign Evolved play these new missions first (the game counts them as a separate story that you can choose to play at any point). !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ss46706c1f09a3f69dcae90acb6914fe64a91b5d6f.1920x1080c8f02b.jpg?w=636) These new missions see Master Chief and fan-favorite Sergeant Johnson infiltrate a Covenant ship in an effort to find intel on the alien threat's main base of operations. The duo have fantastic back-and-forth that builds up their relationship in a way that Combat Evolved's story simply doesn't have time for because they're split up almost immediately, and even when they do reunite, they then both go off on their separate missions. Combat Evolved's story is a largely solo affair of Chief doing his best to help his human allies as he moves from place to place across the Halo ring, and Campaign Evolved remains faithful to that lonely-feeling journey despite supporting co-op. So having a chance to see Chief interact with a friend does a lot of the heavy lifting in characterizing him as an actual person. You see that he has a sense of humor and is fiercely loyal to others (aspects that aren't really explored until Halo 2). And seeing just how, daresay, shy he is with marines he doesn't really know brings the whole psychological toll of being a Spartan to the forefront of his character. That's something you don't really get at all unless you read the books, watch the intro or closing cinematics of Halo 4, or play Halo Infinite. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ss1b091bbe1ab1bbe85a0bf7acb51a97494d0f127a.1920x1080.jpg?w=636) These three prequel missions also just have a very Halo Reach feel (there's even a mission in space that isn't all that great in comparison to other sci-fi space battle games, but plays well enough to be a good time). The horrifying threat of the Flood, the mystique of the Forerunners, and the drama of AI rampancy feel so far away. In these missions, it's all about the ongoing galactic war between humanity's scrappiness and an alien threat's technological superiority. As Chief and Johnson do their best to keep each other motivated, navigate a Covenant nature preserve in which the aliens hunt human prisoners for sport, and gaze down upon a planet that has been transformed into glass after undergoing an orbital plasma cannon bombardment, you can just feel it: Humanity is losing. And unless they get a miracle, they'll go extinct. These missions lead so well into the main story of Campaign Evolved, establishing that humanity is on the backfoot. My one major qualm with these new prequel missions is that they introduce two new characters: a new Covenant prophet and a new human fireteam leader. Neither are very fleshed out, beyond "evil scientist is evil" and "rough and tough marine," and that feels like such a missed opportunity. Chief meets several prophets across the Halo games, and fights alongside tons of humanity's soldiers. Given how well these prequel missions flesh out Chief and Johnson's relationship, they could have done the same for Chief and an existing prophet or human ally. Instead they introduce new characters but don't have the time to give either one enough time to breath and evolve into nuanced individuals. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ss399c36cce5e186336f5a695545f1e80a562eb963.1920x1080.jpg?w=636) These two characters are not so bad that they ruin the story of these prequel missions, but they both feel like sci-fi tropes. Admittedly, Halo is filled with sci-fi tropes, but it also has some fantastic characters. So whenever a couple of duds pop up, they really stick out for how poorly characterized they are. Additionally, Campaign Evolved doesn't quite figure out checkpoints. The game's automatic checkpoints seem to trigger for a variety of reasons: reaching a specific spot in a level, killing a certain number of enemies in an area, leaving combat entirely, or some combination of the three. The logic for what counts and what doesn't isn't super consistent and seems to shift parameters moment-to-moment, leading to irritating setbacks--when it's not abundantly clear why getting defeated in one lengthy fight sends you all the way back to the beginning of it, while a defeat in the fight that had just occurred prior only sent you back a few seconds, it can feel like the checkpoint system is finicky at best and unfair at worst. This is a problem in both the main story and the new prequel missions, though I noticed it a lot more in the latter than the former. It's not so bad that I ever wanted to put the game down in frustration, but it's certainly annoying whenever it happens to pop up, especially if you're playing on one of the more challenging difficulties, like Heroic or Legendary. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/ss4288a35884445fcf22f4fe7315944c376ecb1cf5.1920x1080ad2ce2.jpg?w=636) These issues aside, however, Halo: Campaign Evolved is awesome. And that's not surprising, simply because Halo: Combat Evolved is a fantastic game. There's a reason this story is a classic. Its explosive opening chapter plunges immediately into a series of desperate, high-action firefights that repeatedly reward your precise aim and strategic battle awareness with the sensation of being a heroic super-soldier. Humanity's weapons punch through flesh, while the Covenant's alien firearms and explosives satisfyingly melt enemy shields and paint the walls and floors with purple-blue plasma. For lack of a better word, the orchestral score is perfect, and I envy you if this will be your first time hearing it. And the main story's abrupt shift from a straightforward war between two civilizations into a desperate race by both sides to escape and contain a terrifying new threat that neither can handle is still as tense as it was back in 2001. It's still an odd sensation to be playing a Halo game on a PlayStation console. If you had asked teenage Jordan--the one who spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours laughing alongside their friends in Halo 3 and Halo Reach online multiplayer--whether Halo would ever make its way to a Sony console, they'd have told you it was impossible. Yet, here we are. And 25 years later, Halo: Combat Evolved's story is still really, really good.

After 25 Years, Halo Is Finally On PlayStation

After 25 Years, Halo Is Finally On PlayStation

It's a big day for Halo, as Halo: Campaign Evolved launches today, July 23, in early access(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-get-halo-campaign-evolved-early-access/). Beyond the excitement that normally surrounds the launch of a new Halo game, the release is especially notable because today will also be remembered as the day Halo finally came to PlayStation after more than two decades of console exclusivity on Xbox. The sci-fi series debuted in 2001 as a launch title for the original Xbox, and the franchise has been exclusive, at least on console, to Xbox ever since--until today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sUilTjOQ Why now? Why is Halo now, after all these years, finally coming to PlayStation? According to developers, the aim is to "bring players back together" and help the franchise reach new audiences. “There are people who have never been exposed to Halo. Maybe they’ve always been on Sony products, switched consoles at a certain point, or just missed it at the time. We want to bring players back together,” executive producer Damon Conn said(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-on-ps5-we-want-to-bring-players-back-together-microsoft-says-about-remake/1100-6537490/). Creative director Max Szlagor added that, “Halo is best played when we have a large, healthy community.” Releasing Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5 is a “way to grow, expand, and reconnect the Halo community,” Szlagor said. “We want to honor the Halo legacy on PlayStation, and we’re paving the way to expand our Halo universe–that’s how we see it,” Conn added. “And it’s not a small thing. We don’t, and we won’t, take it lightly. We definitely feel the weight of it.” Also, money That all may be true, but another factor at play here is money. Microsoft bringing Halo to PlayStation is also a way to make more money, and that's important for Xbox given how unhealthy the business is currently(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/is-xbox-fixable/?thumbnailid=1785763). Microsoft's new multiplatform strategy has already helped Microsoft generate hundreds of millions of dollars bringing its games to PS5(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/this-xbox-game-just-passed-300-million-in-revenue-on-ps5-report-says/1100-6537323/), so it's not surprising to see Microsoft bring another major franchise to a rival console. The pivot to releasing Xbox games on rival consoles came from the Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond days, and now that they are gone, new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has suggested the company will return to more exclusives(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-clarifies-its-exclusivity-strategy-moving-forward-wants-you-to-buy-an-xbox/). Halo veteran Brian Jarrard said in 2025 that Halo games will be on PlayStation going forward(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-games-will-be-on-playstation-going-forward-says-microsoft/1100-6535712/), so Campaign Evolved may not be the last Halo game on a Sony console. Whether or not Sharma and her team could change this, however, remains to be seen. What Halo games are coming next? Years ago, Microsoft announced that multiple new Halo games were in development at Halo Studios(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/multiple-new-halo-games-in-the-works-as-series-moves-to-unreal-and-343-gets-a-new-name/1100-6526938/), and they will be developed using Epic's Unreal Engine. Halo: Campaign Evolved is the only one that's been announced, but Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes are reportedly also in the works(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-2-and-halo-3-remakes-are-coming-report-says/1100-6539784/). Beyond those, a report said Microsoft is working on a new live-service Halo game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-halo-game-may-be-like-fortnite-with-live-service-report/1100-6535547/). For more on Campaign Evolved, check out GameSpot's breakdown of how to play with your friends across platforms(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/heres-how-to-play-halo-campaign-evolved-with-your-friends-across-xbox-playstation-and-pc/). Campaign Evolved's early access starts today for people who buy the game's $70 premium edition. The standard edition ($50) unlocks on July 28. Game Pass members get the game with their subscription, but they can buy a $20 upgrade to the premium edition(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-get-halo-campaign-evolved-early-access/) to start playing today. Campaign Evolved is a remake of the original Halo, with improved graphics and features. It also includes new prequel missions. However, there is no multiplayer.

Here’s How To Play Halo: Campaign Evolved With Your Friends Across Xbox, PlayStation, And PC

Here’s How To Play Halo: Campaign Evolved With Your Friends Across Xbox, PlayStation, And PC

With Halo: Campaign Evolved's early access period set to kick off on July 23(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-to-get-halo-campaign-evolved-early-access/), you may be wondering just how to enable cross-platform play so you and your fellow Spartans can kick grunt butt across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Well, the process is actually super simple, so let us break it down for you right here. As outlined in a July 22 blog on the Halo Waypoint site(https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/early-access-primer), playing this Halo remake with your friends is easy. All you have to do is know their Gamertag or Username, search for and add it to your Xbox friends list--either on the Xbox site, from the Xbox Game Bar, or in the Xbox mobile app--then add them to your party from the "Cross-Platform Friends" list of the "Play Co-op" menu when they're online. And just like that, you're playing Halo: Campaign Evolved(Campaign Evolved) with your friends on a platform other than an Xbox. Weird times we're living in, but it really is that simple. It's worth noting that you don't get immediate access to Halo: Campaign Evolved's early access just by buying the game. As is customary with these sorts of things, you’ll need to preorder the $70 Premium Edition to get into the early access pool. If you have preordered the $50 Standard Edition, you can upgrade to the Premium Edition to gain early access, but that will run your wallet $20, bringing the total to the Premium Edition price. And if you got it via Xbox Game Pass(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/is-halo-campaign-evolved-on-game-pass/), you can upgrade to the Premium Edition for $20. Preordering either version nets you the Foundry Armory Pack, which comes with legendary looks for Master Chief's iconic Mark V Mjolnir armor. Opting for the Premium Edition comes with some extra goodies, though, such as a digital artbook and short story, as well as the game manual and five additional Master Chief armor skins and six weapon skins. Halo: Campaign Evolved will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on July 28--and it's a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/is-halo-campaign-evolved-on-game-pass/). Be sure to check out the release times(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-campaign-evolved-release-date-and-global-launch-times-revealed/) so you can be ready for when the game officially comes out.

The First Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs Of The Past Footage Will Be Revealed During Gamescom's Opening Night Live Stream

The First Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs Of The Past Footage Will Be Revealed During Gamescom's Opening Night Live Stream

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/21/f61ff2f9/songs%20of%20the%20past%20key%20art.jpg.webp) In case you missed the announcement a few months ago – and there wasn't much fanfare, so I couldn't blame you – The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a brand new expansion, over a decade after its release(https://gameinformer.com/2026/05/27/the-witcher-3-songs-of-the-past-is-a-new-expansion-starring-geralt-and-it-launches-next). Called Songs of the Past, we don't know much about it yet, other than the fact that it's being developed alongside Fools Theory, the team in charge of the Witcher 1 remake, and that it's coming out in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. However, today CD Projekt Red shared(https://bsky.app/profile/thewitcher.com/post/3mr5mopimps2a) that the game's first look will debut at this year's Opening Night Live showcase at Gamescom, which will occur next month on August 25. Held in Cologne, Germany and hosted by Geoff Keighley, Opening Night Live is the games industry's third major showcase, alongside The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest. It's open to the public (though this year is already sold out) and livestreamed around the world. As the name suggests, it's presented at nighttime in Europe, but it occurs during the day in the US, at 11 a.m. PT / 2 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CEST. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is widely regarded as one of the best games of the modern generation, with an elaborate open world, memorable side quests, and two major expansions that live up to the base game's standards. Developer CD Projekt Red seemingly moved on after the second expansion, going on to develop Cyberpunk 2077 (spending years patching it) and its Phantom Liberty expansion. We even know that the studio is working on The Witcher 4, starring Geralt's daughter Ciri, and while we don't know for sure, we wouldn't be surprised if Songs of the Past leads into the next mainline entry in some way. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, one of the directors of The Witcher 3, has since left CD Projekt Red and is now behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, an upcoming vampiric action RPG that shares some DNA with The Witcher games. For more on that, you can check out our exclusive cover story hub(https://gameinformer.com/dawnwalker) for behind-the-scenes details and watch the video above about Tomaszkiewicz's transition from one series to the next.

Xbox Explains What Makes A Game An Xbox Exclusive

Xbox Explains What Makes A Game An Xbox Exclusive

Amidst mass layoffs(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-layoffs-studio-closures-and-spin-offs-everything-announced-today/) and increasing hardware prices(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-is-increasing-the-cost-of-xbox-consoles-again-starting-in-august/), one of the other side effects of the Xbox "reset" is a renewed focus on console exclusives. While we know that Gears of War: E-Day(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gears-of-war-e-day-skipping-ps5-means-reaching-fewer-players-and-microsoft-is-ok-with-that/) and Clockwork Revolution(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/clockwork-revolution-is-another-xbox-console-exclusive-coming-in-2027/) will only be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, they won't be the only two exclusives landing on those platforms. "I can assure you, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are not the only titles we're planning," chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said to GamesRadar(https://www.gamesradar.com/games/xbox-return-to-console-exclusivity-report/section-the-return-of-first-party-exclusives). "To grow a platform like ours, you have to have exclusive games and services. These are not going to be the only two titles. To return our platform to consistent growth, we need a reliable pipeline of exclusive games. Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are just the first." While Xbox has its eye on drawing more people to its platforms through the power of exclusives--it is aiming to "entertain" a billion people every day(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-wants-to-entertain-1-billion-people-every-day-it-cant-even-explain-how/), eventually--not every game will be locked to Xbox. Ball added that "large live-service titles" will continue to be multiplatform titles, and some single-player games could also make their way to hardware like the PS5. As Ball explained, Microsoft has a "framework" in place for deciding which games will be Xbox exclusives and which ones will expand to additional platforms, as the company decides on a case-by-case basis. "I recognize that this approach is not obvious to all of our players, and we are committed to making this clearer," Ball said. While the new Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution won't be landing on PS5, Halo: Campaign Evolved(https://www.gamespot.com/games/halo-campaign-evolved/) and Fable(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/fable-4-everything-we-know/1100-6485774/) will be available on the Sony platform the same day and date as the Xbox and PC versions of the game. Halo: Campaign Evolved executive producer Damon Conn added that going multiplatform was the right approach for the game as it celebrates its 25th anniversary, as this will allow friends to enjoy shared experiences no matter which system(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-campaign-evolved-cross-play-and-cross-saves-explained/) they're on. While Xbox seems adamant to offer exclusive games once again, one analyst believes that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are being used as sacrificial lambs(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/upcoming-xbox-exclusives-are-being-sent-out-to-die-analyst-says-xbox-pushes-back/) to win back hearts and minds, following several months of bad news at the Microsoft gaming division. Techland Cancels PlayStation 4 And Xbox One Versions Of Dying Light: The Beast

!Dying Light: The Beast(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2025/09/19/3c4dc7ba/screenshot6-gameplay.jpg.webp) Techland launched Dying Light: The Beast(https://gameinformer.com/sgf-2025/2025/06/06/dying-light-the-beast-launches-in-august-and-gets-a-new-trailer) last September for current consoles and PC, but had planned to bring the game to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a later date. Unfortunately for players on those platforms, those plans have been axed. The developer/publisher posted on X(https://x.com/DyingLightGame/status/2077000243455906018?refsrc=twsrc%5Etfw) stating that it will no longer bring Dying Light: The Beast to last-gen consoles due to technical issues getting the game to run well on older hardware. “Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware," Techland writes. "Its open world, advanced visuals, and fluid combat and traversal all depend on processing power and memory that previous-generation consoles simply cannot provide. As development progressed, it became clear that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent us from delivering the experience we set out to create. This was not a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind. Rather, it reflected the technical realities of development and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience." > After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that Dying Light: The Beast will no longer be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. > > Dying Light: The Beast was built from the ground up to take full advantage of current-generation hardware. Dying Light: The Beast was released on September 19, 2025, and sees the protagonist of the first game, Kyle Crane, return as the playable character after suffering genetic mutations granting him special powers. We scored the game an 8.5 out of 10 in our review(https://gameinformer.com/review/dying-light-the-beast/a-deadly-return-to-form). Techland recently released a new edition of the game called Restored Land(https://gameinformer.com/2026/03/24/dying-light-the-beasts-restored-land-edition-adds-a-persistent-survival-mode-that-sounds) that adds a new persistent survival mode alongside every piece of available content.

Witcher 3 Director Says Next-Gen Console Delay Would Not Be Such A Bad Thing

Witcher 3 Director Says Next-Gen Console Delay Would Not Be Such A Bad Thing

The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has commented on the state of next-generation consoles, saying his studio Rebel Wolves wouldn't be too upset if the PlayStation 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-6-everything-we-know-about-sonys-next-generation-console/1100-6533561/) and next-gen Xbox(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-xbox-release-date-specs-display-price/1100-6525379/) get delayed due to the ongoing memory and component crises. "To be honest, it's even better for us," Tomaszkiewicz told Eurogamer(https://www.eurogamer.net/next-gen-console-delay-blood-of-dawnwalker-developer) about how he would feel if next-gen consoles get delayed. He's currently working on the vampire game The Blood of Dawnwalker, which releases in September across console and PC. He went on to say a new platform comes with new challenges that developers need to spend time working on and learning. "You need to know what are your borders, what you can do, what you cannot do. And also it's an additional build you need to create that you need to take care of later," he explained. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/blood.jpg?w=1024) The Blood of Dawnwalker releases in September. Currently, Rebel Wolves has four different builds of its current game, The Blood of Dawnwalker--Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and two for PC due to regional restrictions. If The Blood of Dawnwalker is a success and Rebel Wolves wants to bring it to whatever new systems are coming, the amount of work required would be multiplied, Tomaszkiewicz said. "It sounds easy but you need to know that there is a group of testers who need to test every platform separately--not only this particular change but whether the whole game has no blockers, if you can finish it from the beginning to the end, and so on and so on. It's a huge effort, to be honest," he said. As for the benefits of coming to a new, more powerful platform, Tomaszkiewicz said improvements would be "mostly visuals" thanks to having more RAM and a better processor. To be sure, Sony has not officially announced the next PlayStation console, but the company has spoken at a high level about its plans(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps6-plans-reportedly-thrown-into-uncertainty-by-ai-hardware-demand/1100-6538201/). Microsoft has been speaking openly about Project Helix for some time. Recently, Xbox's chief strategy officer Matthew Ball said Microsoft is committed to releasing Project Helix(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/is-xbox-fixable/?thumbnailid=1785763), but the company is going to "rethink everything" about it. It remains to be seen what that means. Due in part to the AI-fueled demand for memory and components, hardware prices on game consoles have gone up in recent years. Sony and Microsoft already raised prices on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles, while Nintendo is hiking the price of the Switch 2 in September. Some are theorizing that, should current trends continue, the price of new consoles in the future could be $1,000 or more, and that's a real bummer(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/there-is-no-reason-to-buy-another-playstation-or-xbox/). With the prices of new consoles expected to be the highest ever, that may help explain why Sony is killing of discs in 2028(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/over-220000-people-petition-sony-not-to-kill-physical-playstation-game-discs/). If companies like Sony and Microsoft are going to sell fewer consoles in the future, as data suggests(https://www.gamesindustry.biz/analyst-game-console-shipments-expected-to-decline-195-to-339m-units-in-2026), then shifting to an all-digital world helps improve margins(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/) to mitigate the impact of fewer hardware sales.
