Circana, formerly NPD, has released its latest monthly sales report for the US video game industry, and one key takeaway was that Xbox was the only console platform to grow in sales during the month. Xbox Series X|S unit sales grew by 86% compared to June 2025(https://bsky.app/profile/matpiscatella.bsky.social/post/3mrafirrlwt2s), and June 2026 was the best month so far in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S sales, Circana said. In June 2025, Xbox Series X|S sales were negatively impacted by the price increase that was put into effect in May 2025, Circana's Mat Piscatella added. The Switch 2, meanwhile, saw its unit sales fall by 78% in June 2026(https://bsky.app/profile/matpiscatella.bsky.social/post/3mragh6ffts2m) compared to June 2025. The drop off was expected, of course, because June 2025 was when the Switch 2 launched, and it saw big sales out of the gate that would make a year-over-year comparison difficult. In terms of dollar sales, Xbox Series X|S sales more than doubled, Circana said, with Switch 2 hardware spending falling by 79% and PS5 dipping by 19%. Xbox's year-over-year gains in June 2026 were not enough to offset the declines from PlayStation 5 and Switch 2, with total spending on hardware in the US dropping a mighty 62%, falling to $383 million. Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit production on a new RoboCop TV series. Based on the classic 1987 movie directed by Paul Verhoeven, the series has already recruited Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) as its showrunner, while The Conjuring's James Wan will serve as one of its producers. "What Paul Verhoeven created in 1987 was decades ahead of its time, and its questions about technology, identity, and who corporations really serve have only grown more urgent. With Peter's distinctive vision and bold approach to storytelling, and alongside Ed Neumeier, co-creator and our partners at Amazon MGM Studios, we're working to honor what made the original iconic and highlight its relevancy in this modern, tech-driven world, while building something unmistakably new for a global audience." This isn't the first time that RoboCop has hit the streets of Old Detroit on TV, as following the release of the first film, an animated series debuted in 1988. Two more film sequels followed--and failed to recapture the magic of Verhoeven's first movie--and there was even a live-action series in 1994 that ran for 21 episodes. Reviews were generally warm, and while the game is a complete break from the fast-paced action games that currently dominate the first-person shooter genre, the attention to detail, downtime between missions, and satisfying gunplay make it a worthy successor to the RoboCop legacy. EA Sports has announced the cover star for FC 27's Ultimate Edition, and it's none other than superstar Kylian Mbappe. His national team, France, may have lost to Spain in the World Cup semifinals this year, but Mbappe scored a tournament-best 10 goals, earning himself the Golden Boot award. Mbappe was also on the cover of FIFA 23 in 2022; that was when EA and FIFA were still in business together prior to the name change to FC. Across the pond in England, at least one "independent space warrior" is making a push to get Sega fans on his side, as Count Binface's bid to be elected the new MP of Clacton has seen him call on Sega to reopen its beloved West End Arcade and get Shenmue 4 into production. "I need to say a galactic hello to Sega, on behalf of the Shenmue fans," Count Binface said in a new video that was shared by the fansite Shenmue Dojo. "I've got a little bone to pick with you, because the fans would like to campaign for an update from you, Sega, about Shenmue 4. They can't leave you guys on another cliffhanger for years! Yes, I wonder whether Sega needs to be nationalized along with Adele. What do you say? Should we harness the power of the Shenmue to ensure that there is no delay with updates ever again?
