One Of Last Year's Best Horror Games, Total Chaos, Is Getting A Low-Poly Retro Mode And It Looks Awesome

!Total Chaos Retro Mode Trigger Happy Interactive Apogee Entertainment Doom II 2(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/16/b4e8e081/t2.jpg.webp) Developer Trigger Happy Interactive released its first-person horror game Total Chaos(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/total-chaos) last year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and it became one of my favorite horror games of 2025(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/total-chaos/a-haunting-catharsis). The game was great at launch, made even better with a New Game+ update that arrived earlier this year with a brand-new finale alongside a Switch 2 version, and now, thanks to an upcoming "Retro Mode" update, is set to get even more tantalizing. Publisher Apogee Entertainment revealed on Bluesky(https://bsky.app/profile/apogeeent.com/post/3mqosmjetjk2f) today that Retro Mode will bring pixelated visuals, low-poly horrors, and yet another new ending to Total Chaos. This horror game began as a total conversion mod of Doom II, and Apogee says this new ending is inspired by those Doom II origins. You can see an example of the Retro Mode look in the header image at the top of this article, but here's another look below: !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/16/b4e8e081/t2.jpg.webp) The game is set within the corridors, hallways, cliffs, and bunkers of an isolated and desolate mining town run amok by a rotting disease that has infected both the protagonist's mind and the once-citizens of this place. Using first-person combat, a constantly expanding crafting system, and environmental puzzle-solving, Trigger Happy Interactive crafted an excellent horror adventure well worth the price of admission and the dozen or so hours of runtime. You can read more about why in Game Informer's Total Chaos review(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/total-chaos/a-haunting-catharsis). There's no word on when Retro Mode will arrive in Total Chaos, but Apogee Entertainment says it's coming soon. In the meantime, read my dissection of the game's themes(https://www.gameinformer.com/opinion/2025/12/26/hating-cancer-and-the-cutthroat-catharsis-of-total-chaos) and how they intersect with hating cancer, cutthroat catharsis, and more. Total Chaos is available today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Have you played Total Chaos? Let us know what you think of it in the comments below!

Dispatch Will Finally Make Its Way To Xbox Later This Month

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2025/10/14/f490074a/dispatchofficialreleasedatetrailer0-39screenshot.jpg.webp) Dispatch(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/dispatch), the "superhero workplace comedy" game from former Telltale developers, launched on PlayStation 5 and PC last October(https://www.gameinformer.com/2025/09/16/narrative-superhero-game-dispatch-launches-next-month-with-first-two-playable-episodes). It then made its way to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 earlier this year(https://www.gameinformer.com/2025/12/17/update-dispatch-is-soaring-to-switch-2-and-switch-next-month), in January. Now, Xbox players can enjoy the antics of the Z-Team later this month when Dispatch hits Xbox Series X/S on July 29. The game centers on former superhero Robert Robertson (played by Aaron Paul), who becomes a dispatcher for a dysfunctional team of reformed villains. The narrative-focused game features choice-driven conversations that steer the plot down different paths, while dispatching heroes to handle a multitude of disasters unfolds as a light take on turn-based strategy. To celebrate the news, developer AdHoc Studio released a new trailer that teases some of the superhero adventures and dispatching drama that await Xbox players in the game. Check it out below: We loved Dispatch last year, and you can read why we gave it a 9 out of 10 in the Game Informer Dispatch review(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/dispatch/with-great-power-comes-guaranteed-paperwork). You Can Now Order Games And Consoles From GameStop With Uber Eats

You Can Now Order Games And Consoles From GameStop With Uber Eats

GameStop has announced a partnership with Uber Eats to allow people to order things like games and collectibles through the delivery app. Inside the Uber Eats app, you can navigate to the "Retail" or "Electronics" hubs and search for GameStop to see what you can buy. Local inventories will vary, but my Uber Eats app shows things like Ubisoft's newly launched Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/black-flag-resynced-is-a-bad-remake-of-peak-assassins-creed/), a variety of collectibles, consoles like the Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S, as well as Red Bull cans. Like with Uber Eats food orders, you can select ASAP or your own specific delivery time, and from there, you can see your driver in real time. My app shows a $6 delivery fee. GameStop is just the latest retailer to join Uber Eats' lineup of retailers. Others include Best Buy, Home Depot, PetSmart, Target, and many more. In other news, GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen continues to push for his ambitious buyout of eBay for $56 billion(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ebays-rejection-letter-to-gamestops-56-billion-bid-pulls-absolutely-no-punches/1100-6539894/). eBay has said it does not plan to sell, but Cohen is still trying, and he has said he might pursue a hostile takeover. Cohen has also discussed how video games could play a major role in his plans for eBay(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gamestop-ceo-came-up-with-plan-to-buy-ebay-on-the-toilet-wants-it-to-become-re-seller-of-digital-gaming-items/), should he succeed in taking over the platform. GameStop was also in the news recently after Sony announced plans to kill off physical game discs in 2028.(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/) Many theorized that this would be bad news for GameStop because it sells physical games. However, GameStop's stock price did not fall after Sony announced those plans--in fact, the stock price rose. Why? One reason could be that software is the smallest part of GameStop's business today(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gamestop-is-not-hurting-after-sony-kills-discs-and-there-is-a-good-reason-why/), which is now more focused on collectibles.

Xbox’s Console Future Looks Bleak In New Industry Forecast

Xbox’s Console Future Looks Bleak In New Industry Forecast

Next year could be a grim one for Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, as console sales are expected to dramatically decline in 2027 by almost 20%. Thanks to component shortages, video game consoles like the Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S have only gotten more expensive over time--a complete reversal of how systems used to get cheaper the longer they were on the market. According to a report from S&P Global Market Intelligence Kagan (via GamesIndustry.Biz(https://www.gamesindustry.biz/analyst-game-console-shipments-expected-to-decline-195-to-339m-units-in-2026)), the math is simple: more expensive machines(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-xbox-and-switch-2-heres-how-their-prices-have-changed-since-launch/), fewer consumers able to buy them. The firm is predicting that console shipments will fall to about 27.1 million units by 2027, but it could recover to 37.4 million units by 2030 if the component crisis begins to stabilize by 2028. This would allow Sony and Microsoft to release their next-gen consoles--the PS6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-6-everything-we-know-about-sonys-next-generation-console/1100-6533561/) and Project Helix(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-xbox-release-date-specs-display-price/1100-6525379/), respectively--and S&P Global Market Intelligence analyst Neil Barbour projected that the consoles will sell for between $600 and $800 each. "For now, the market faces a compounding problem: hardware that is either too old or too expensive for the median consumer, a software slate that is thin outside a handful of tentpole releases, and a macro environment that keeps any meaningful price relief off the table," Barbour said to GamesIndustry.Biz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FatSqS3VYY For the Switch 2, S&P has forecast that it'll sell 17.1 million units in 2026, while Nintendo's own expectations have sales pegged at 16.5 million units sold in the console's second fiscal year. That would make for a decline of 16.9% compared to its launch year(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-switch-2-continues-to-be-a-massive-hit-selling-over-10-million-units-in-six-months/1100-6535903/), but it's not just the looming $50 price hike in September(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-nintendo-switch-2-is-officially-getting-a-price-hike-in-september/1100-6539854/) contributing to this. S&P believes that the lack of a killer game for 2026 is hindering Switch 2 sales, although the launch of Pokemon Winds and Waves(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/pokemon-winds-and-waves-release-date-gameplay-and-everything-we-know-so-far/1100-6538522/) in 2027 could see a spike in sales. Nintendo is also rumored to be exploring an OLED version of the Switch 2(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-exploring-a-switch-2-oled-but-is-worried-about-price-report/), but the potential price for it is said to be a topic of concern at the company. As for the PS5, recent price hikes(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-price-increase-confirmed-by-sony-amid-market-pressures/1100-6539060/) haven't helped the console improve its recent sales, either. S&P's forecast is a 15.2% decrease year-on-year, with Sony likely shipping 13.2 million units in 2026--a big drop compared to how Sony shipped 17.1 million PS5s in 2025. Xbox could be hardest hit, as the outlook doesn't look positive for the Microsoft gaming division. S&P says that Microsoft shipped 3.2 million Xbox Series X|S consoles last year--a figure that Microsoft has never publicly revealed, as it's notoriously cagey with sales numbers--and that was the lowest annual total to date. S&P predicts 2.5 million Xbox Series X|S units will be sold in 2026, followed by "a rapid wind-down toward zero" as it prepares for a next-gen console launch. With Project Helix expected to be expensive due to its ability to support both console and PC marketplaces, S&P has forecast launch-year sales of 2 million units, reaching roughly 7.3 million units by 2030. Barbour added that the sales outcome could look different, and that S&P is "splitting the difference" between a traditional Xbox console successor and a living-room PC that has been given an Xbox certification. That 2028 launch year for next-gen consoles is looking more solid--although anything can change in these turbulent times--as court documents(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/next-console-generation-may-start-in-2028-xbox-court-docs-say/1100-6515423/) and statements(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-mentions-ps6-release-year-if-only-this-document-werent-redacted/1100-6509450/) have the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles penciled in for 2028.

A New Update For The Adventures Of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Fixes The Game's Most Annoying Feature

!The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales HD-2D Team Asano Square Enix PS5 Xbox Series X/S PC Steam Nintendo Switch 2(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/07/10/ecb13f14/adventuresofelliotheader.jpg.webp) Octopath Traveler(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/octopath-traveler/an-arduous-but-rewarding-journey) series developer Team Asano launched(https://www.gameinformer.com/nintendo-direct/2026/02/05/the-adventures-of-elliot-the-millennium-tales-arrives-in-june) its HD-2D action RPG, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/the-adventures-of-elliot-the-millennium-tales), last month on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Though many are enjoying the game, there is near-universal agreement that Faie, the companion fairy that accompanies Elliot on his adventure, talks way too much. A new update released today across all platforms lets you turn off Faie's voice completely, providing a fix for the game's most annoying feature. The Adventures of Elliot is, no doubt, aiming to be a Zelda-like adventure, and Faie can be seen as a stand-in for Navi. Despite general grievances with Link's fairy in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who finds Navi to be more talkative than Faie. Team Asano was seemingly aware of Faie's communication style, giving players the option to tone down how often she speaks in the game's options – which was available from the jump. However, listening to player feedback since the game's launch, today's 1.1.0 update allows you to completely turn off Faie's voice. The update's patch notes(https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3483510/view/680754149992695962?l=english) are short and sweet. In addition to adding an option to turn off Faie's voice, this update also "adjusts tutorial behavior," fixes FPS drops on some PCs when Faie is present, and fixes some minor bugs. The update is available to download right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. In the meantime, read Game Informer's review of The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/the-adventures-of-elliot-the-millennium-tales/history-repeats-itself) to learn why we enjoyed the game, despite Faie's insistence on preventing any and all silence. After that, check out our reviews for Team Asano's other games, like Octopath Traveler 0(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/octopath-traveler-0/going-from-zero-to-hero), Octopath Traveler II(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/octopath-traveler-ii/two-is-better-than-one), and Triangle Strategy(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/triangle-strategy/powerful-conviction-shines-over-dark-times).
