AC Black Flag Resynced: How to get the Skeleton Crew

Rock Paper Shotgun » Guides✍ Jeremy Blum(about 1 month ago)

Summary

One of the most popular aesthetic choices for your pirate comrades in the original 2013 release of Black Flag was a skin that transformed them into the undead miscreants of the Pirates of the Carribean, and Black Flag Resynced brings back this look in perfect splendour.

The means by which you obtain the Skeleton Crew is different in this remaster, however. No longer is the look a reward for completing certain in-game challenges. Instead, the Skeleton Crew's appearance can now be purchased outright - not exactly with cold, hard coin, but for literal Animal Bones.

In this guide, we'll explain how to get the Skeleton Crew in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, and we'll also delve into how to get Animal Bones, which can be tricky to come by if you've only just begun sailing around the Caribbean.

How to get the Skeleton Crew crew appearance

To obtain the Skeleton Crew crew appearance in Black Flag Resynced, navigate to the unmarked island south of Andreas Island on the map. The approximate coordinates are 550,638.

You'll find a store on this island that sells rare goods, among which is the Deceased Crew Attire. You can't pay for this in Reales, and instead you'll need to fork over 206 Animal Bones.

Once you've got the Deceased Crew attire, you can go to any Harbormaster to edit the appearance of your ship and crew members. Select the Deceased Undead Crew option to have your men go all undead yo-ho-ho on you.

How to get Animal Bones

Animal Bones are obtained in two ways:

  • As random drops from land animals that you kill and skin
  • Purchasable from the Treasure Dealer in Great Inagua

When it comes to farming animals for bones, go after the following creatures: Black Jaguar, Capuchin Monkey, Crocodile, Deer, Hutia, Iguana, Jaguar, Ocelot, Rabbit, Red Howler, Monkey, White Jaguar, Wild Pig. The embedded map below shows their locations across Black Flag's world:

The rate at which they drop isn't always reliable, and farming animals in Black Flag Resynced tends to take longer than it did in the original game, since animals do not immediately respawn upon exiting and re-entering an area. Instead, their internal cooldown timer must reset, which takes a while.

To get around this cooldown, your best option is to pick a few key farming locations and cycle between them. Refer to our guide showing all 61 of Black Flag Resynced's Viewpoints if you want to get a sense of the closest Fast Travel points to these locations.

In Black Flag Resynced's early game, your best option is to head to Nassau, where you can find Crocodiles hanging around in the swamp along with Wild Pigs on the outskirts of town. Then Fast Travel over to western Dry Tortuga (where you technically started the game), where you can find more Wild Pigs and a Jaguar roaming the jungle. Though you won't sail to Kingston until later in the campaign, the area surrounding the city is also an excellent location for farming animals.

If you'd rather get Animal Bones wihout killing animals, you need to unlock the Treasure Dealer in your Hideout. This requires advancing in the Former Glories side quest in Great Inagua by restoring the General Store and the Tavern. After this, the Treasure Dealer becomes available, and he'll sell you Animal Bones at the price of 1,000 Reales a Bone.
