All romance options and relationships in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Summary

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's romance and relationships work a bit differently than you might be used to. The concept may seem familiar to friendship events in games like Persona 5 or even Stardew Valley, but there's much less pressure to get things "right" in Expedition 33. You'll want to complete relationship events as soon as you're able, simply for the rewards they unlock. But they don't vanish after a set time, nor does choosing one companion preclude you from spending time with another.
In this guide, we'll explain how Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's relationships and romance work and what you get for raising each companion's Relationship Level. We'll also specifically explain how to romance Lune and Sciel.

How relationships and romance work in Expedition 33
Once you reach Act 2 and Verso joins your party, you'll occasionally have the option to spend time with allies at Camp when you speak with them. Doing so raises their Relationship Levels, which go from Level 1 to Level 7.
The points at which these opportunities arise seem to vary, so your best bet is to speak with every party member at Camp after any major story event. For example, after clearing the Forgotten Battlefield, return to Camp and speak with everyone; after finishing the Sirene fight, return to Camp and speak with everyone. And so on.
For the first few Relationship Levels, you'll get no material rewards, but you will witness scenes that have quite a lot of backstory for the character in question. Eventually, you'll unlock new Gradient Attacks, cosmetics, and records. Higher Relationship Levels also come with unique quests revealing even more about each character.

In Expedition 33, relationships and romance are separate. You can build Relationship levels with all characters in your party, but you can only romance either Lune or Sciel - and not both. Rejecting one will not influence the other's attitude, and there's no downside to pursuing or not pursuing a romance with either character. You can still max out their Relationship Levels in a platonic fashion regardless of your romantic choices, and you can still get Sciel's and Lune's special Gradient Attacks.
In short, all romance in Expedition 33 really does is offer up character-specific story scenes with either Lune or Sciel, instead of practical gameplay benefits. (But for many players, this will be more than enough!)
Expedition 33 companion quests
Most of Expedition 33's companions have personal quests that become available once you reach Level 5 in their respective Relationship Level. The exception is Sciel, so if you're waiting for her quest to unlock, know that there isn't one.
Character quests will take you to a specific location and involve a boss fight, though there's no time limit on when you can complete them. You do need to finish them to reach Relationship Level 6, though, so don't leave them too late.
- Lune's quest: You'll visit Sirene's Dress Realm, a small location next to Sirene on the world map. There, you'll face a Chromatic version of the Glissando boss.
- Monoco's quest: Monoco wants you to find Noco, which requires travelling north of Monoco's Station to the Sacred River. You'll fight Golgra again here.
- Esquie's quest: It's back to Esquie's Nest for another round with Francois.
- Maelle quest: This one's a bit spoiler-y, but the gist is that it unlocks a new area west of Visages (The Reacher), and you'll have a 1-on-1 fight against Maelle after the scene ends.
Romance options
Once you reach Relationship Level 6 with Lune or Relationship Level 3 with Sciel, you can pursue a romantic relationship with one or the other โ but not both. Here are the requirements for romancing both ladies:
How to romance Lune
If you haven't romanced Sciel and reach Relationship Level 6 with Lune, Lune will say during the relationship rank-up event in Camp: "Stay up with me tonight. Help me with my song?"

If you respond "Sure. I'd love to help with 'your song,'" the scene transitions, and you'll max out Lune's Relationship Level and enjoy some flirty dialogue. Note that you can still max out Lune's Relationship Level even if you don't romance her, but you obviously won't get the same cutscene.
How to romance Sciel
When you've reached Relationship Level 3 with Sciel and spend time with her to reach Relationship Level 4, she'll ask a favour of you. Saying "Do you even need to ask" will lock you into the romance route. Then, during the relationship rank-up moment between Relationship Level 5 and 6, choose to go for a swim with Sciel.
Swim moves, eh? That's detinitely not a metaphor for something else! | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Sandfall Interactive
As is the case with Lune, you can still max out Sciel's Relationship Level even if you don't romance her, but you'll miss out on the romantic cutscene.
Relationship Level rewards
Here's what you get for increasing each companion's Relationship Level. Most rewards are late-game, so don't expect anything fancy or useful early on.
