The Internet Has Some Things To Say About GTA 6’s Price

Overview & Key Takeaways

Rockstar Games confirmed the price of Grand Theft Auto 6: A trip to Vice City will cost you $80 for the standard version of the game and $100 for the Ultimate Edition.

Preorders for the highly anticipated open-world game start June 25 at midnight local time, but the retail cost is sparking chatter online. As you can imagine, people are incensed at the precedent that Rockstar is perceived to be setting (though $80 games are already a thing), but it doesn't help that the physical edition of GTA 6 is only a download code in a box.

Many who closely follow trends in the games industry, including journalist Imran Khan, aren't surprised by the development.

Even if this outcome were predictable, the trend of rising costs has been a downer for many gaming enthusiasts.

Those who read the fine print of what's included in the Ultimate Edition seem particularly irked, arguing that the features from that version of the game (namely activities and locations) should be in the base game.

But for those who were never interested in GTA 6, the $80 price point and all of the trappings around its launch are even more justification not to buy the game. One social media user lightheartedly compared GTA 6 to the upcoming Rhythm Heaven Groove on Switch, though it's admittedly a compelling case.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, with pre-loads available starting November 12. Physical copies with download codes will be available on that date as well to allow players to pre-load the game ahead of launch.

GTA 6 is 80 dollars. Grand Theft Auto Six is Eighty US Dollars. One hundred dollars for some digital bullshit, if you want. You don’t even get a disc! Take Two are cutting every corner and passing the savings on to no one.

None of the GTA6 info shocks me. $80 seems like what they have been indicating for years. Even if that game fits on a disc (I bet it doesn't), the decision on disc orders was probably made deep into Tariff Territory and discs get printed in Mexico and that was always going to be an issue.

Despite the name, the $100 GTA VI is not really an “Ultimate Edition.” That is the ACTUAL base game. The $80 “Standard Edition” is in fact the base game with standard elements from prior Grand Theft Auto games removed: character/vehicle customization, quest lines, parts of the map there at launch.

The Most Expensive Xbox Ever Now Includes Another Special Perk

Each console unit is individually numbered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-INYU6FLgI Additionally, Microsoft has announced that all of the 25th anniversary Xbox consoles will include a download code for Halo: Campaign Evolved. The game launched in July, and while Halo's co-creator had some issues with it(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/halo-co-creator-calls-out-remake-for-pandering-to-new-era-of-players-with-0-attention-span/), he and others, including us here at GameSpot, generally enjoyed the remake(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/it-feels-wrong-for-halo-to-feel-better-than-ever-on-ps5/). It's also the first Halo game on PlayStation. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-26-at-11.21.44-AM.png?w=636) The translucent green Xbox Series X launches in November. Microsoft is opening up preorders today, August 26, for "some of Xbox's most dedicated fans." Everyone else, meanwhile, can try to get their hands on one starting August 27 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET through Xbox(https://www.xbox.com/en-US/consoles/xbox-series-x?wfExp=382CTx25limited1tb) or other retailers. The console will become available, for anyone who secures a preorder, starting November 13. People can only preorder one. If you just want the controller, preorders are open now for the $80 gamepad(https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-25th-anniversary/?wfExp=382CT). It releases on October 20. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot-2026-08-26-at-11.20.09-AM.png?w=636) The 25th anniversary Xbox controller. $900 is a lot of money, but it's not actually the most expensive anniversary-themed console we've seen. That record belongs to Sony's PS5 Pro 30th anniversary limited edition bundle, which retailed for a whopping $1,000 in 2024.

Lego Batman's Joker And Harley Quinn DLC Drops Next Month Alongside Free Absolute Difficulty Update

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/08/26/c49884f4/legobatmanlegacyofthedarkknight-harleyquinnthejoker.jpg.webp) Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is one of my favorite games of the year so far, and ever since I rolled credits, I've been eager to play the DLC. Announced prior to the game's launch, we knew it would focus on Harley Quinn and the Joker, and today, WB Games has pulled back the curtain on the new content. The new trailer includes gameplay, new suits for the Bat-family, and a release date: September 18. Check out the video below: Previous Lego Batman games were known for their large roster of playable characters – especially villains – but Legacy of the Dark Knight shrinks the cast to shine more of a spotlight on each of Batman's various partners. They all have character-specific gadgets that I always enjoyed discovering, so I've been looking forward to these new characters to see what the developers have cooked up. The Joker and Harley Quinn will get a new exclusive level, where they'll "orchestrate a breakout from Arkham Asylum with a going-away party Gotham City won’t soon forget," a press release states. The duo will also appear in Mayhem Mode, which has them rushing through Gotham to destroy landmarks, complete challenges, and fight off members of Task Force X (including Deathstroke, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man, and Katana). Each run of Mayhem Mode is timed, however, and you'll have to make it back to the Amusement Mile before the timer runs out and Batman and Robin hunt you down. The seven playable characters in the base game will also all get Joker-inspired suits, with Batman getting to wear the notorious Bat Who Laughs costume. All of the above is included in Legacy of the Dark Knight's deluxe edition, which you can upgrade to for $24.99 if you have the base game. On the same day, all versions of the game will receive a free update with the Absolute difficulty, which will surpass Dark Knight as the game's hardest difficulty. I'm particularly interested in checking this out, because it was one of my main faults with Legacy of the Dark Knight – even the hardest mode wasn't very challenging. This DLC pack and the free Absolute difficulty upgrade drop on September 18, which is also the same day the Switch 2 version of the game comes out. A Legendary Star Wars Vending Machine Is At The Center Of A Major Conspiracy

More than 27 years ago, Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace released in theaters, ushering in a new wave of fandom for one of the most important media franchises of all time. Since the film's release, one relic has been a constant: the Pepsi vending machine on Mt. Washington in Pittsburgh. It has remained and kept stocked with drinks ever since then, but it appears that has finally changed as part of some bizarre prank or heist. Below, you can see what the vending machine looks like--or looked like, depending on its fate. The graphics have faded over time but it's still drawing in thirsty customers with its giant Pepsi bottle on the front alongside some pod-racing action. https://twitter.com/connortonight/status/1278154371121983488 This week, however, the machine went missing. It was replaced with a pretty hilarious decoy, featuring a very poorly drawn recreation of the original machine's artwork. https://twitter.com/ztwhite23/status/2092476623371055439 Visitors have noticed(https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/questions-speculation-swirl-around-popular-star-wars-vending-machine-pittsburgh/HRUDAJPLY5BI7PPXS56IEU6RSU/) that the new machine has 10 buttons, while the original only had nine. It's been speculated that influencer Braeden Days(https://www.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/comments/1v2y4d6/uhanybodyelse/?shareid=qqvFXBVaz6dMuz4zx3F68&utmcontent=1&utmmedium=androidapp&utmname=androidcss&utmsource=share&utmterm=1) may have swiped it, as he has threatened to do so in the past. It's possible the locals or the Pittsburgh Fire Department had something to do with it, as well, as it's located just outside a fire station. The new artwork has been compared(https://www.reddit.com/r/pittsburgh/comments/1vy8oxl/mtwashingtonstarwarsvendingmachinepainted/) to the infamous 2012 Jesus-painting restoration(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EcceHomo(Garc%C3%ADaMart%C3%ADnezandGim%C3%A9nez)), though it will be a lot easier to laugh at if the original machine makes a return. For more Star Wars action, you can check out Star Wars Zero Company(https://www.metacritic.com/game/star-wars-zero-company/) beginning August 27. This will be followed by Star Wars: Galactic Racer on October 6.
