HBO Max has ordered Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline, a new 10-episode spinoff centered on fan-favorite couple dubbed "Bubbline."

Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday at the Annecy Animation Festival that HBO Max has ordered Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline, a new 10-episode animated series focused on the beloved couple. According to the official logline, the series will follow Bubblegum and Marceline as they "journey across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and new dangers."
The new series comes from Emmy-winning Adventure Time veteran Adam Muto, who returns as showrunner and executive producer after previously leading Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake and Adventure Time: Distant Lands. Fred Seibert and Sam Register will also serve as executive producers, with the series produced in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios.

Bubblegum and Marceline have long been among the most popular characters in the Adventure Time universe. Fans affectionately dubbed the pair "Bubbline" years before their relationship was officially confirmed in the 2018 finale of the original series, when the two shared an on-screen kiss in a moment widely celebrated by fans.
Since then, the duo's popularity has only continued to grow through fan art, online communities, and appearances in later Adventure Time projects. In some ways, a spinoff like this felt inevitable — and very welcome.
"Continuing in the spirit of Fionna & Cake, I'm excited that the next Adventure Time series will feature two more of my favorite characters: Bubblegum & Marceline," Muto said in a statement. "It's been a fantastic opportunity to revisit old friends and build onto the world of Adventure Time."
Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Programming, praised Muto's continued work within the franchise.
"We can't wait to see where Adam's boundless imagination takes us in this new series," Gravitt said. "It's such a joy to go on another Adventure Time journey with our friends and partners at Cartoon Network Studios."
The series is currently in development. No release date has been announced.
