Overview & Key Takeaways

According to a leaked image, Hunter x Hunter will reprise serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump with a batch of new chapters starting next week.

It's time, Hunter x Hunter fans: The manga will reprise serialization with a fresh batch of 10 chapters hitting Weekly Shonen Jump. Despite his physical issues, legendary creator Yoshihiro Togashi keeps working on his masterpiece. The story of the Succession Contest continues as many parties vie for power on the Black Whale during the voyage to the mysterious and deadly Dark Continent.

According to a leaked page from Weekly Shonen Jump, Hunter x Hunter will return with chapter 411 in issue 31 of the magazine, coming out on June 29. The image that was shared seems accurate, and the news is in line with available information. The return of Hunter x Hunter was all but confirmed with last week's announcement that volume 39 of the manga would be published on July 3. Usually, the release of a volume, or tankobon, is timed to coincide with the publishing of new chapters, and this time wasn't an exception. Fans will be able to read the new chapters immediately on digital manga apps such as Manga Plus and Viz's Shonen Jump app.

Based on the manga's current serialization schedule, it will run for 10 weeks, but don't despair. Togashi gives constant updates on his wildly popular X account, and he has shown that he's already working on the next batch of chapters. Coincidentally, the same issue that will see Hunter x Hunterโ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹'s much anticipated return will also say goodbye to modern hit Kagurabachi, at least for a short time, as the author takes a much-deserved break.

The long hiatuses make the manga's complex plot even harder to follow, so here is a summary. The powerful Kakin Empire has financed an expedition to the Dark Continent, a vast and unexplored swathe of land holding deadly threats and unimaginable treasures. Many important people join the trip on board the Black Whale ship, including Kurapika, who wants to retrieve the remaining scarlet eyes of his tribe from the fourth prince of Kakin, Tserriednich. The Phantom Troupe is also on board, seeking revenge on Hisoka, who is hiding on the ship. Meanwhile, the deadly Succession Contest starts, a Nen-based competition among the princes of Kakin to determine the only successor to the throne.

It's been 14 years since the Succession Contest arc began, a staggering amount of time. Popular modern series such as My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaisen all started and ended during that period, and yet Hunter x Hunter persists thanks to the passion of its fans and the perseverance of its author. Being a Hunter x Hunter reader means embodying the popular meme: I will be there no matter what.

[Ed. note: Keep in mind that the information shared online might not be entirely accurate. For official confirmation on the release of new Hunter x Hunter chapters, you should monitor Weekly Shonen Jump's official website, or its official social media accounts.]
